I would like to thank every Patron for your support.  Everyone, of course except for Joseph Robinson.  Joseph, you are a diabolical madman who has left a deep scar on my being. I will never forget the smell of walking through a mayonnaise cloud as I approach my camera which has been "gooped" with mayonnaise dollops raining from the heavens.

(I'm kidding of course.)

I have some very interesting things planned for this cannon, and I hope you'll consider sticking with me as a Patron of Smarter Every Day.

Oh.... and it's not lost on me that we've gone from the James Webb Space Telescope, to Privacy, to Supersonic Mayonnaise.  When you guys let me explore what I'm interested in... who knows what we're going to do.

I'm grateful for your support,

Destin

After an awful-smelling target like that, you should reward yourselves with something pleasant like a giant bag of whole bean coffee, or an armful of flowers or something.

Housane

Some of these stills would make great wallpapers, love the video

Sean McPherson

OK, we need some industry contacts. Aerogel. Enough to capture the ball.

Jake L

That mayo was absolutely foul and I love it.

John Cox

With that possibility of fire around the baseball just before impact, I must now insist upon shooting fireworks to see if you can set them off.

Nick Hobson

Shirt could have been Blama (AlaBlama)

SeanT

LOVED the vaporized cloud of mayo. Truly twisted idea, the oily grass was horrifying. You really need to consider doing a background check of your Patreon supporters. :)

Nick Hobson

Also please shoot a wheel of cheese.

Ethan

Awesome. Did you ever solve the vacuum loss issues from the first vid?

David Hile

Way cool! How about jug of non-newtonian fluid (cornstarch water) for a target?

Lee Monahan

Ballistic gelatin block!

Shawn Johnson

Fantastic!! In the words of Adam Savage, "The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down."

John Cox

Madness... sweet, sweet, madness. Nothing beats the maniacal giggle of plotting data points on a sheet of plywood.

Joseph Russell

The science sounds are definitely entertaining. And the mayo was less than desirable after effects, but!! The Slomo definitely made up for it. I’m hoping that the next thing it doesn’t spread nasty. Oh!! I wonder what a feather pillow would look like. Are you really sending out baseballs again? I wouldn’t mind another one. I so appreciate the work you do on on videos

Michael Lambert

The L’ASSOCIATION POUR LA SAUVEGARDE DE L’ŒUF MAYONNAISE may be contacting you. Yes, there is an association for mayonnaise! (https://www.lebey.com/lasom-lassociation-pour-la-sauvegarde-de-loeuf-mayonnaise). One can only imagine their reaction to learning their valued spread is being used for something other than being spread on various foods. "Monsieur!! We wish to inform you that exploding mayonnaise violates the terms of usage buried in the fine print of every jar of mayonnaise. Yes, we ended up agreeing it can be used during various sexual acts (we are, after all, French), but there must be a limit monsieur! Please refrain from obliterating our favorite spread in such a violent manner in the future. Our association secretary was so overcome with rage watching your "experiment" that he choked on his croissant and we had to administer the German Heimlich maneuver! Merde! Merci."

Sergey Kolokolov

The way you guys enjoy every bit of this experiment while doing it brings a ton of joy to my inner kid =) And the exploding gallon of mayonnaise, of course)))

Austin Baker

THE CANON'S BACK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BOI!

Martin Croft

Hey, Destin Loved the Mayo, gave me an Idea know I missed the callout ... Non-Newtonian fluid (oobleck)

Charlie

As someone who hates the taste of mayo, this was both a joy to watch and utterly disgusting. Keep up the good work. And yes, please shoot a baseball straight up in the air.

Johann Ortiz

Outstanding, in a field! Thank you for baseball battery breadth, it is ballistic ballet bravura.

Team Saunders

I think going from james Webb to privacy to literally the best training video on trials process and how to run a trial (and have fun) is exactly why we are all smarter every day Patreons

Jonathan Wishart

This was amazing, definitely need to shoot peanut butter with this.

Tim Tobin

Your excitement is infectious! You should shoot kinetic sand. It has some weird properties where it hardens and cracks when hit by a high speed projectile.

James

It’s next adventure needs to be to Demolition Ranch. Can it be more destructive than a .50 cal? Let’s get you two together!

James Williamson

could you do vegemite please, hello from Australia

Adam Stadnick

Here's a wild and dangerous idea: An inflated car or small truck tire on the rim. You'll want to have some shielding for... well, everything. But I'd love to know if the tire deflects the ball or pops!

Cody Corrigall

I would really like to see still frames of objects shortly after the baseball impacts. This would be a really cool idea to submit to p4a this year. I want to frame and display.

Atek

How about shoot a knife edge to cut a baseball in half 🤔

Guy Actual

I'm wondering if the mayo will kill the grass in that area. Lots of oil in that there heavy mayo! But, It might keep the ants away, so call it a draw? I'm going to loop a clip of the sprinkles being shot in slow motion as my zoom background!

Jason Allen

You should shoot some flour or confectioner's sugar with the cannon! If you put it in a plastic container with no lid on it, I bet it would throw a big cloud of powder straight up into the air. Although sugar and flour are both highly flammable when aerosolized, so if the fire we saw on the mayo jug were to occur again while shooting at sugar, it could create a big fireball. I'm not sure if that's encouragement to do this or not!

JustAnotherGamer JAG

I would love to see a near miss at a cheap drone just to see how and if the shock wave would affect it,and the of course an actual mid air hit would be awsome 😆

Next time on Supersonic Baseball Canon... Ken's Heavy Mayonnaise + Tuna. Supersonic Tuna Salad

CaptainMojo

I freaking love the checklist on the phone, and how excited Destin is to char the data! Even temperature and humidity adjusted...my inner nerd is so satisfied! Then the caterpillar rescue and "squirrel" moment when he gets fascinated by the awesome lighting...my inner human is so satisfied! This is why I'm a proud patron for Smarter Everyday. Keep up the outstanding work everyone!

JW King

While I watched the video, I totally geeked out on the question of how to validate and verify your speed calculations. My brain was in total war with parts shouting at other parts about whether or not the number of pixels between the flag pins would be the same as the number of pixels between the ball position when the ball passed directly over those pins, and whether it mattered or not. Was the camera pointed directly through the flight path? Was the camera pointed horizontally or angled up or down? Is the lens spherical? What about pincushion or barrel distortion effects? Were you using the center of the ball or the leading or trailing edge? Worst case, what is the margin of error? What is the acceptable margin of error? How would I validate the setup? How would I verify the results? I could easily teach a day-long class to a bunch of test engineers just on analyzing the theoretical precision and accuracy of using a Phantom V2511 placed perpendicular to the flightpath to measure the initial and terminal velocity of a supersonic baseball. What an awesome video!

Poker Chen

Would a haystack or giant ball of cotton wool/candy work as a target?

dans

Aim it at a bucket of baby powder, if you please

Daniel Viñals Deleito

Destin lets hit a pillow, a catcher chest protector, a bullet proof jacket, a sand bag, boxes and the kind of things you will use to protect your body from a baseball match 1 ball

Robert Pedersen

Destin, 1000mph baseball fired at a tub of oobleck!!!!

Michael Osterhout

Please consider a large can of Cranberry Sauce as a target. Lay or suspend the can sideways to aim at the circular top or bottom of the can. This could help the baseball transfer more of its energy to that flat surface while the jellied cranberry sauce inside smoothes out the deformation and allows the can-lid-wrapped baseball travel down the length of the cylindrical body. The target/food is seasonally relevant, easily biodegradable, not as offensive in odor as Ken’s Extra Heavy Mayonnaise, photogenic with a dark translucent purple color (particularly so if a large can of whole berry sauce can be found), and may be easier to clean up since the can is likely to break apart into a few pieces of metal and paper label. Thank you for the first video! It entertained me on all levels with an honest sense of silly joy, awe and fascination.

Zachary Kay

How about a gallon of a non-newtonian fluid?

David H

I suggest cornstarch & water (thickens when it's hit) and ketchup (thins when it's hit) as targets!

David H

I'm surprised you haven't aimed it 45° up and seen how far it can go yet.

David Crookston

I would summit baseball setting off Tannerite in a 500-800 lb pumpkin. We do this about once a year. This is the footage. https://youtu.be/mQBNdoEAxk4 There are other videos with better production value. But is a good showstopper event.

Flat Earther For Life.

Hello, I just became a new patreon supporter. I had an idea for your baseball cannon. A 1 cubic ft. (Or larger) SOLID BLOCK of lego bricks.

Joseph Robinson

@destin next time you need to shoot a gallon of Elmers glue :) advise to move the cameras further away..lol
