A/N: Axel is having the time of his life. Sure, Daenerys almost just killed him… but honestly that’s kind of hot.

If Axel isn’t a bitch, he has to go tear down all the temples of Rollo now. Thems the rules.

Bugejoah Showalter

Probably gotta wait till he deals with the Others for that.

pavbpabv

I'll be honest, all this shit with Danny has been the worst thing about this story by far.

Tsorov

Are they even real in the show/books? I've read some fanfics that had them as absent but existing gods, others where their worship was just used to deny real gods the worship. And, since I never read the real books myself, I can't really know if it is one or the other.

Lord Sesshomaru

More than the Seven's intervention, I'd say Axel unlocked the "Conqueror's Haki" lol. R'hllor shit himself so much he had to bluff to see how far Axel would go 🤷🏻‍♂️. Then if they actually exist, well that'll be a surprise.

Corn The Man

Eh I'm still okay with it. I understand her personality can be very self righteous and annoying, but I felt Cam did an okay job describing why she ended up so warped. Better than her going full psycho and losing all reason in the course of two episodes like the show. I still can't get over how out of place that felt.

Munsu

... Well, I did not see that coming. The Red God being a petty bitch, yeah, not such a massive surprise. But the Seven actually making a move ? Nope, did not see that coming. Especially since, as writer and readers, we know Axel's abilities have nothing to do with them. Color me surprised.

That was goofy as hell, Axel losing his shit over Danaerys possibly dying as if they weren't enemies just 30 seconds before

JoeMcCool

At least now Axel will know that Daenerys is not reluctantly loyal to him only because of her oath, not after saving her and her kids/dragons from the Red God. I wonder if he is going to go to Dragonstone first with Dany or back to Kings Landing? Probably should do the former, he still needs to look for his helmet and sword. 😅

BYMZ

He's a simp. The way author had him acting this chapter was embarrassing. All over a girl just because he wants a harem.

Look, this is just a theory, but it's made from actual observations of the setting - all Gods from ASOIAF, from the Old Gods in Westeros to the the pantheon of Valyria have three things in common: - A link to nature. - The practice of ritual sacrifice. - Some form of magic. The Old Gods are linked to stones, rivers, the air, and animals. Their followers sacrifice their enemies on Hearth Trees, having their entrails. Their magic allows an individual to send their mind into the body of animals and - probably - plants; plants having no concept of linear time are what allow Greenseers, people who see through the green, to see past and future. The gods of Valyria are linked to Fire. Their followers sacrifice slaves by the hundreds and themselves sometimes. Their magic allows an individual to change matter, which is probably how they created dragons from Wyrms and Wyverns and made themselves look like they do, and forged Valyriano Steel; and also connect their minds to flames, which dragons are, that is what dragon dreams are. The God of the House of Black and White is linked to Death. Their followers ritualistically kill their assassination targets, suicidal people and their own Identity. Their magic allows their followers to change their own shape based on the identity of others and connect to those minds in order to impersonate them. And so on. The Seven, though? They are representations of different facets of humanity, not nature. They require no ritual sacrifice of anything, and actually condem that. Their followers have no magic. The exemption to all of those three rules is the Stranger, literally the facet of the "other" - he is death, and magic, and the unknown, and the thing to fear and shun. Because there are humans who are like that, Strangers to a proper follower of the Seven. But do they even exist? I mean, their followers conquered most of a continent that used to be ruled by people who had all those cool magical powers, didn't they? They assimilated those people to the point their descendants call the gods of the antecessores the "Old Gods" and those who follow them are treated as barbarians. When Valyria exploded, when the Rhoynar fled, when the Warlock became husks, when the Children were driven to extinction, the Faith of the Seven only became bigger and more established, and the followers of those other guys? Converted themselves to the Faith. When the Dragons came to Westeros, what happened? Aegon converted, gave his house a banner and house words, built two septs. When the Dragons flight the faith what happened? A truce, then a slow conversion, and then the Dragons died. To me, it seems like the Seven could very well be real, but instead of controlling nature and elements, their "miracles" are more in the order of influencing humanity, giving knowledge, giving skills, bending luck.

redhawktiger

I honestly don't know what to say to this chapter.....i certainly wasn't expecting that

TheSinful

Fire god: "Yeah, I never liked Melisandre anyway... *WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY DRAGON WAIFU IS GONNA GET DICKED BY SOMEONE?! I'D RATHER SHE DIE!!!!*"

William

If you had a naked Daenerys Targaryen happily in your arms, and you DIDN'T want to keep her there, I pity you.

Potato

The thing is are they even gods?

seringue

The question I have is if this was enough to give The Seven a claim on Axel.

Sir Files

I recall GRRM stating in an interview that magic in ASOIAF is old and written in sacrifice. Mainly, blood and soul magic. I feel like the gods in this case are likely less actual gods and more sorcerers of old who have amassed enough power through sacrifice and manipulation of their own souls. In that way, they'd basically have power but not be able to do miracles willy nilly

Eric Lachance

I wonder if Axel can spin something about how he guided Daenerys towards the Light of the Seven?

Corn The Man

Yes, but you forgot she's pretty hot

pavbpabv

Hopefully not, just imagine being like a divine slave for thousands of years.

oscar enrique sampedro lopez

After dealing with the ice zombies Axel can do a quick trip over Essos demolishing Rhallor temples

Warden

It would explain why R’hllor was seemingly unfazed by Axel’s threats. His nature isn’t supported by belief but by blood. A few hidden dedicated cults might be able to sustain him. The Seven on the other hand only came through for Axel following his very public, faith generating stunts. Also there’s no sacrificial demands made by The Seven. They seem to have a more egregorial nature compared to the Old Gods. And it makes sense considering that the Old Gods formed in an era of low population density where blood was more readily available and The Seven formed after the advent of a continental civilization where faith as a primary means of sustenance was much more tenable. I’m curious to see how Cam does The Other. It seems to have a mixed nature with cold and death being primordial-esque like traditional gods, the wights killing nature functioning as a blood sacrifice mechanism, and an egregorial nature supported by the human fear of death and the unknown functioning as faith sustenance.

Surge1301

The seven are like, yeah fair enough and tell the Walmart Korne to fuck off.

Alun Lewis

I don't think Axel's behaviour in this chapter is SOLELY because he wants another woman in his harem. I mean, Cam has Axel acknowledge in this chapter that Daenerys is someone he could have become if raised anywhere else but the Eyrie by Jon Arryn & Nestor Royce...I shudder to think what Axel could have been like if Robert had chosen to acknowledge him in the same way Ned Stark did for Jon Snow. Or decided that he had fucked a demon and Axel was demonspawn - requiring Axel's death - the first time he dud something superhuman. Yeah, Dany has far, far more blood on her hands than Margaery or even Asha, and its probably going to take awhile for Dany to shake off years of brainwashing, but I see where Cam is taking Axel's train of thought on why he shouldn't just kill Dany.

Alun Lewis

Hmmm...Rh'llor must have thought Dany was still fully "his" even after she (and the dragons) executed Melissandre to only activate a killswitch when the last Targaryen daughter swore fealty to his enemy's so-called champion. That or Melissandre did something to ensure the mission was completed, even if Axel defeated Dany. Still...an enjoyable and exciting chapter, Cambrian! I wait with weighted breath to see how Arc 6 begins 😀

Son-Of-Scorn

I like it, sure Rh'llor and the drowned God and the Great Other all turn up in numerous stories but the Seven get kinda ignored or aren't real or are useless due to the fact they're basically a god with multiple personality disorder so to get some actual representation is pretty cool

Legendary Gear5

Well there’s no evidence of them being real even in the books.
