2020 Update on Sonic Retold! (Patreon)

I'm back! Sorry I haven't updated my Patreon account in so long. I've been away from the community for several months due to problems in my life, the reason of which I wrote about in my DeviantArt journal here: https://www.deviantart.com/glitcher/journal/Glitcher-applies-as-a-sinecurist-826625000

During my absence, some of you have reduced or cancelled your pledges. I don't blame you; I deserve no less for being incommunicado for so long while I sort out my own crap. But I want to thank those who have stuck with me despite the lack of updates and assure you that Sonic Retold is still alive! ^_^

Just because I've been quiet doesn't mean I haven't been working on it. I've already given a life update on DA, but here I want to write a comic update to let you know how things are going. While I've been working on pages for issue #4, I've also taken a step back to re-examine the story. For the first three issues, I've grown so tunnel-visioned churning out page after page that I made little to no progress on the script. I was under such pressure to meet a weekly deadline that I never took the time to plan for the future.

So after issue #3 ended, I took a bit of a break and re-read some back issues of Archie Sonic for inspiration. I'll probably talk more about those later to discuss old plot points with my readers. It helped keep up my enthusiasm and serve as a guide map for the continuation of the story. And it worked too! I managed to sit down for several days and do nothing except work on the script - solidifying misty ideas that had been floating around in my head for years, but never committed to paper until now. It became a deeply character-driven storyline that focuses on the heroes' motivations and relationships. I felt it would be the perfect antidote to the rather superficial and MacGuffin-driven storylines that plagued Archie Sonic in its dying years. I'm very proud of the result and I can't wait to illustrate it. ^_^

What you see above is a small sample of what I'm working on for issue #4. You can tell that this is going to be more of an action-oriented issue compared to the previous dramatic one. So the big question is, when will it be out? Wellllllllll the plan was to release it later this month. But life threw another wrench in the gears: I'm getting evicted.... AGAIN!! This is the third time in a year that I'm being evicted. Not because of any trouble, the owner just says he needs my room for returning family. I can't extend my tenancy, so I guess I'll be looking around London for a new home. *sigh*

Still, I'll manage. I plan to restart streaming soon to help me stay on schedule, and hopefully I'll have a more definitive release date for issue #4 as I make progress. Things should definitely smoothen out after the move, and hopefully I won't retreat into isolation like I did last time. Anyway, thanks for bearing with me so far, and I look forward to continuing the comic. Peace!
