What a nice surprise! I wasn’t expecting this reaction until after her break! I loved all the callbacks to past characters, and the companions getting the spotlight.

James Fish

Thank you for a wonderful reaction to the start of the 5th Doctors era. It is an interesting story for sure. I too love the callbacks & I also love the way Tegan and Nyssa get on. Tegan being naturally panicky & Nyssa being ultra calm. I think they form a really good dynamic because of this with each keeping the other focussed. See you next time!

James Fish

Yes, we are 4 reactions ahead with this tier on Patreon, so for us Jess will break after the reaction to the second story in this season - I think lol!

James Gorman

One of my favourite seasons of Doctor Who. Also a favourite story of mine.

Ryan

"I don't get that reference, but I assume it was funny." Me every time someone mentioned Abraham or Simon from The Walking Dead.

James Gorman

I love that the Fifth Doctor’s regeneration is unstable. You can see the personalities of his first three Incarnations. There are great callbacks! Tegan and Nyssa have a great dynamic. The first two episodes really focused on Tegan and Nyssa.

Intertemporaneous displacement! Tricky thing to keep a hold of when dealing with time. Always the problem with time travel. You never know when it is getting ahead of oneself!

Thomas Corp

Jess: *Dramtic gasp* “You better not delete any spas!” Me: I assure you, Jess, if he did, we would never allow the Doctor to get away with such treachery.

Thomas Corp

My brother and I usually often quote Michael Keaton in The Other Guys by throwing our hands up and saying, “I don’t even understand the reference.” I use the gif of that a fair number of times.

Josef Schiltz

Poor Sarah Sutton! Velvet slacks and river water are not a good combination! Soggy legs! Urrrrgh! Her Nyssa costume sold at auction in 2010 for £3,360. I wonder if the carrying of the zero cabinet on the wheelchair was in any way inspired by the funeral sketch that was played out by Dave Allen and Dudley Moore in which there was a race between two funeral parties and one took to riding the coffin on a pram that had been discarded in a roadside ditch?

Thomas Corp

Legwear of any kind being soaked leading to soggy legs is not a good mix, though yeah, velvet would probably be particularly bad. I just hate how the soggy clothes just clings to you. A most unpleasant textural feel. I don’t know for sure about this scene drawing inspiration from the Dave Allen and Dudley Moore bit, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. The idea sounds plausible if nothing else.

Josef Schiltz

Btw: I sincerely hope that trip down the riverbank was at the end of the location shoot!

Glen McCulla

I was so enamoured of the synth flute music that plays as they make their way to Castrovalva that I wore out the VHS to the point that the tape snapped and my dad had to use sellotape to splice it back together. Even today it gives me weird chills.

Christopher Warner

What a surprise for us subscribers. I thought we may have experienced your (well deserved) break simultaniously. Very pleased! Looking forward to your 5th Doctor reactions…this is one of my favorite seasons! What a journey we’ve been on.
