I felt really awkward putting this on the Schindler’s List post, but conveniently there’s also a Walking Dead connection to this news so it can go here just as well: Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2 (because fuck them, that’s what I’m calling it) has added Katy O’Brien to the cast. I stopped watching Walking Dead before she showed up, but I adore her in The Mandalorian and Love Lies Bleeding, so I’m very excited about this. Plus, adding another kickass female character to offset the loss of Ilsa, if she really is gone. It’s too bad she won’t live, but then again who does?

Well, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have the best night’s sleep last night. I didn’t either, but my bad night pales to yours since you say Rocco is going through some stuff, and that has me worried. I hope he’ll be ok, Jess. And before we talk about the episode, you gave the shout-out to the theme music, I’ve been loving the theme music for all these shows; I’ve been loving each of them. Now to this tremendous finale. My emotions went on a ride with this one. Not helped by my having had three sizeable cups of coffee that morning, which though my body is desensitized anymore, my heart rate was jacked. It was a neat theme of fire. How Beale described it, you need to burn to rise again. Unfortunately for Beale, Rick and Michonne have decided that Beale and the CRM are decay, and decay has no cure. It must be eradicated by a cleansing fire, and Rick and Michonne are that cleansing fire. That was a highlight when Rick hears the talk from Beale whilst Michonne gets the letter that Jadis wrote with her distinctive handwriting. Twas probably mean, the comment you made on Jadis and her handwriting. Of course, I’m in no position to judge. Nor am I in any position to judge you for saying that the moment Rick used his teeth to defend Carl being one of your favorite Rick moments. You know my love of villains. I SO loved the acting on Andrew and Terry’s part during their whole scene. And it was immensely satisfying when Rick gave the look as you described where we all collectively say “Oh, he’s FUCKED.” which, in this instance, screamed to Beale, “Alea iacta est, Sir.” and how you see it sink in for Beale, and he fucking panics. Then the knife got thrown, Rick made that very sweet tackle, and Rick kills Beale, complimented by the trademark Rick Grimes head tilt, as you said, and all your reactions to every part of that were wonderful. I agree with what you said of though Rick and Michonne are aware that committing to taking down the CRM could cost them their lives, Andrew and Danai sold well the characters’ decision to follow through on it because it is the right thing to do. And it was sweet that Michonne kept Nat’s legacy alive. That boom went off, I went, “Oh! OH!! OH-HO-HO!!!” A shame that Thorne became a thorn in Rick and Michonne’s sides. I assume you were correct that she did not stop ruminating long enough to imbibe a relaxing cup of tea as was your suggestion. The final confrontation with her was great, and I like how Thorne has the moment of sort of redemption in her last act. Yes, this whole show was a FANTASTIC love story. And although Rick/Michonne are not one of my top ships, Lord was it beautiful seeing them get the ending of reuniting with their kids, that you said was exactly what you wanted, Jess. My own reaction was like when Wilf saw the Doctor again after so many years. And that reaction was fueled by both my own emotions, and just KNOWING, in my bones, that you would so appreciate the ending. And I haven’t heard concrete information, though it’s not impossible they could continue with a season two. As it is, I think you could not have asked for a more perfect ending for Rick and Michonne. They lived happily. You brought up the last episode Rick was on as the lead in the parent show. I do remember then thinking that what appeared to be his death was perhaps the most narratively satisfying death that you could have for a man such as him. But if that was his death, then we wouldn’t have gotten this beautiful ending which has been such a delight seeing your lovely reactions, and it has been so delightful sharing this show with you. I suspect we did in fact see the final bow of Rick Grimes, your favorite character. It is of course possible you will see him again. To compare to my favorite character, Emperor Palpatine, every time I think I’ve seen the last appearance of him, especially as portrayed by Ian McDiarmid, I am surprised yet again. Mind you, there it’s helped by the timeline bouncing around like a pinball. But each time, I know it’s possibly the final time, and each time I say, “Just give me one last glorious hurrah.” In the case of Andrew as Rick, I don’t see how you could have a hurrah more glorious than this. If such a story would exist, then I will be here for it, sharing it with you. For now, this is the end, and I so adored sharing it with you. As you said, Rick Grimes is the reason you started this whole channel. Though I may not have been following you and the channel every step of the way, what I have shared with you has been wonderful, and this series stands out as one of the best times I’ve had with you, Jess. I thank you, so, so very much for these beautiful reactions to The Ones Who Live.

I have no problem with you continuing to call Dead Reckoning Part Two by that name. I did hear that casting. Much though I’m not the biggest fan of the Mission Impossible film franchise, I am curious about Katy O’Brien being in that, as I have been liking her work of what I’ve seen. It would help offset the loss of Ilsa as you noted. Nicely done with Gaff’s famous line.
