Major kudos to Filoni for realizing exactly what we'd want after the show introduced both Fennec and Bane, and just giving it to us. There were quite a few variations going on of "And legend says they're still fighting." And I have to point out, it was earlier established that Fennec is brand new to the game, but apparently whatever few jobs she's had were impressive enough for a legend like Bane to take notice and think remembering her name would be worthwhile. Corey Burton and Ming-Na Wen bounce off each other very well, and getting to see them both at the top of their game with a fight lasting most of the episode is a huge treat. The one downside is that it became a huge letdown when Bane's appearance in The Book of Boba Fett didn't lead to any kind of rematch like that last shot of him very much seems to be promising, but I try not to hold it against this episode. The next one I didn't much care for at the time, but that's completely on me since I'd gotten a bit too dependent on the "What franchise character will show up this week?" factor. And the show's own characters are absolutely strong enough that it doesn't need to rely on that. It also goes quite a way to fixing a major issue I always had with Clone Wars despite how much I love it, that despite the opening crawl of Episode 3 saying there were heroes on both sides of the war, from beginning to end the show's morality is completely black and white, including the narrator explicitly calling every Separatist character things like "cruel" and "evil." Which incidentally also makes Echo's feelings a LOT more understandable as he struggles with not being in a story that's written that way anymore. And of course, Omega becoming Star Wars Beth Harmon is beautiful. Your adoration of the droid and her beloved vase is the perfect topper to it.

I thought for sure that I wouldn’t be able to see this week’s Bad Batch reaction until about ten tonight. As it is, I was wrong. Insomnia and depression, it is a curse and a gargantuan pain in the ass, yet it is occasionally a bizarre gift from time to time. Mixed feelings all around on that one. No worries about the congestion, by the way. A week ago, Monday, I woke up much the same combined with a throat that was aflame, so I sympathize. I did think you would greatly enjoy these two episodes. Great to have more of Corey Burton as Cad Bane. Similarly, great to see more of Seth Green as Todo. I do remember how you lived for Todo being a little shit that you found delightfully hilarious, 3PO being tortured episode notwithstanding. Good memory on his name too, loved how delighted you were upon finding out you remembered that. It is a highlight that Omega weaponizes her compassionate nature to help her escape, and as you note it shows how strong the teamwork is when Tech provides the information and goes to work. And we now discover that Omega is an unaltered clone of Jango, essentially making her Boba’s sister. Said revelation made me wonder if we would see Omega in the then upcoming The Book of Boba Fett, and if so, I immediately settled on my fancast of Rena Owen. She and Temuera acting the hell out of a good little Once Were Warriors reunion. Speaking of Rena, nice to hear her get the quick cameo as Taun We before the character got killed by Fennec, which gifts us with more Ming-Na. I knew you’d be down with the Cad versus Fennec battle. A great thing where, sure, Cad has the greater experience, a fact he even points out. Maybe so, but Fennec’s badass enough, that the odds become even. I like you anticipated that. Leading to Cad Bane and Fennec Shand, locked in an epic battle until judgment day and trumpets sound. I’m perfectly fine with it myself as well, so it was most entertaining for the both of us. Bringing us to the question of a beautiful rescue or escape or both, my response is, “We’re not particular.” Indeed, it ended up being both, and we love to see it. Your reactions to that were wonderful, Jess. The second episode is great in showcasing how the Empire dealt with Separatist systems. You and I have a strong love for the political plotlines. In my case that’s been twenty-five years now of the passion for said plotlines, and it is always a pleasure to see you express similar fondness for them. I like that you got defensive of Echo for having the understandable chip on his shoulder about having to work for a Separatist. Fans largely shared your opinion and took exception to the narrative slightly portraying Echo being averse to the mission as somewhat wrong. My own thoughts being considering the ordeals he went through, can’t say I blame him. I KNEW you’d be quite taken with GS-8, her lovely personality, and her devoted protection of beloved vases. An added bonus is that she’s voiced by Sian Clifford, who is known to you as Claire from Fleabag, which is pretty fitting considering we had Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3-37. The two sisters playing sassy droids, lovely stuff. And the batch came through, stopping the needlage, as you succinctly described, and they saved the day. And it is so sweet that Echo offers words of encouragement to the senator, leading to your great reaction. Then there’s Omega being on the sidelines for the episode. Love how it leads to Cid spelling out that yeah, it’s not a good idea to trust her, but if she has ample incentive, she can be counted on. Love Omega being a wunderkind with the old Star Wars game. It is great that Cid calls out Hunter by saying, “The kid just cleared your debt, therefore a modicum of gratitude would not be out of line here.” And to Hunter’s credit, he does offer the apology, and we end on the sweet moment of him challenging Omega to a game. These reactions were most heartwarming, Jess. Just as heartwarming was you saying you love all the members of the batch, even Crosshair, leading me to nod and say, “Good. He’s my favorite of the batch.” Thank you for the wonderful reactions, Jess.

Filoni was surely on the ball with knowing fans wanted concerning Cad and Fennec. To this day, they are still engaged in that interminable battle. The writing is excellent in establishing Fennec’s reputation this early in the game. I remember fans being let down that they don’t get a rematch in The Book of Boba Fett. I was more invested in seeing Cad’s fight with Boba, so I wasn’t too upset. But say for sake of argument that somehow, Cad Bane returns, I would be most agreeable seeing him and Fennec go a few more rounds. I suppose I held more the thought of “What franchise character will show up this week?” as a bonus, thus I was fine with the episode then and now, though fair you express why it wasn’t the best for you back then. The second episode does provide better context for the heroes on both sides line. Does make Echo, and the rest of the batch too, realize how complex and morally grey all of this was. I had to look up Beth Harmon as I didn’t recognize the name. I said, “Who’s Beth Harmon?” Halfway through typing, the answer presented itself, and I said, “Oh, The Queen’s Gam-I still haven’t seen that yet. That’s why the name didn’t click.” And yes, the adoration Jess had for GS-8 and her beloved vase was the icing on the cake for this upload.

It's always a really awkward thing when a franchise changes its writing style so a character who used to be perfectly reasonable suddenly sticks out. The worst I've seen is Finn Mikaelson, who in The Vampire Diaries was the one good member of his siblings who helped the heroes against them, but then when they got their own show The Originals that makes them much deeper and more understandable, suddenly he becomes a sanctimonious prick reminiscent of an early TNG character.

Yes Shand and Bane are evenly matched here, despite her inexperience. It goes on almost as long as the Kenobi v Vader duel on Mustafar! A lot of fun though. It would have been cool to see a standoff with Fennec Shand (especially as Ming-Na Wen can do the fighting stuff well) and Bane in BoBF - especially how annoyed Bane gets with her at the end here - but as he also has history with Boba, it made sense that the big showdown, would be between those two. So we find out that Omega is a pure genetic copy of Jango, which makes her very valuable to the Kaminoans. I think Nala Se did some tweaking considering she is female, though I believe we all start out as females before chromosomes do something and males are produced, something to do with XX and XY - I hated biology when doing my early science work!!! We find out she's closer in DNA to Boba Fett than the other clones, and its interesting seeing Fennec and Bane so heavily in this episode, with their dealing with Boba throughout the years. Nala Se must have created Omega as an insurance policy (and the lettering of Alpha for Boba being the first pure clone, and Omega being the last, is a nice touch) for when Jango's DNA degrades to the point of being unusable. Toto saying his treatment from Bane is perfectly adequate, he must have forgotten about the time Bane put a hidden bomb in him when they were stealing the holocron from the Jedi Temple! Omega's ingenuity are on full display in both episodes with how she escapes and her making money off gambling. For her age, we see how adaptable she is already. Eugh, some of those other abandoned cloning experiments show the more nefarious nature of the Kaminoans, and how they don't appreciate life for lifes sake, just use these creatures as ways to forward their cloning techniques. Having that horrid thing fall on you like what happens with Shand here though, would give you nightmares. Nala Se may have other priorities for Omega, or maybe she just developed a heart, as if you remember how she was with Fives and Tupp in the Order 66 conspiracy arc, she was cold as ice towards them. I do genuinely belive Fennec is looking out for her here (even after being covered in a disregarded clone covered in freezing and pungent goo!), and would have kept her safe according to Nala Se's orders. Omega has good reason not to trust her however. That last scene always brings the tears, I hate seeing Omega upset. 1x10 First up, dunno if you recognise that the senator is played by another Star Trek actor. Alexander Siddig, who was the doctor in Deep Space 9. The place, Raxus, was in Clone Wars (the Bonteri episodes where Ahsoka and Padme go there to try to negotiate a peace settlement) and was as mentioned here, the capital world of the Separatists. I have to say, I prefer this place to Coruscant. Seeing the clones move in to quell the crowd and see them as occupiers, is horrible. We used to see those tanks as well be used for good; now they represent tyranny. I'm reminded of the Siege Of Mandalore, as that will be kicking off there now as the clones are staying as enforcers of the Empire, when Bo-Katan and Ahsoka brought them there. Cid's design in animation looks so good, especially her eyes and forearms, they really stand out. Echo is always grumpy, but he REALLY hates having to help a former Separatist; however after all he got put through by them after The Citadel, you can't blame him. Its now a topsy-turvy world, and the Bad Batchers are finding out that it wasn't just them and the Republic that got screwed over by Palpatine. Everyone did, and the Separatist worlds will be screwed over the most especially as they were seen as the enemy. Nobody is rebelling - yet; but everyone will be starting to have their eyes opened as to what this new regime is going to be like. Also clones now taking missions from droids, everything is upside-down!! These two barfly's must fight every single day, and yet they still hang around with each other! :D I like how as the Senator gets cold feet and doesn't want to run, its Echo - who was so vehement earlier about having to work for a formeer Separatist - that persuades him to fight another day, quoting the legend that was Hardcase (RIP). Omega taking care of business for them back at base though is great; she might become a great strategist if she so wants. Certainly if she'll want to fight the Empire, she'll need those skills to outthink them.

Yeah, I heard that one. I just assumed Ryder took her in whilst Sabine was away.

The balance of skill between the two combatants was well done. Lots of fun. No, yeah, Cad has the more prominent history with Boba, hence the showdown on The Book of Boba Fett. I like to think because Fennec knows of the history, she’s willing to sit back and let Boba have that fight. I imagine some treatment was done resulting in Omega being female. Like you note, presumably something to do with not introducing the y chromosome. Good thought on Omega being an insurance policy when Jango’s DNA deteriorated. And from the looks of things, Nala Se got a little attached. The contrast between her hand in what happened to Fives, compared to her hiring Fennec, night and day. I too think Fennec was genuine, despite needing a HOT shower after the clone corpse and goop. I would assume that Cad wiped Todo’s memory of the bombing incident. A strong showcase of Omega’s ingenuity, and the bond she has with the batch. That is a hell of a last scene. Chilling to return to Raxus and see the Empire bring the hammer down. A familiar sight as the Imperial flag begins to reign across the galaxy. Again, after what happened at the Citadel and beyond, Echo’s grumpiness makes complete sense. And the batch sees like Ezra observed in Rebels, the only winner of the clone wars was dear old Palpy himself. Which leads to quite the topsy-turvy galaxy; Palps topsy, and everyone else turvy. Especially jarring for the clones working for droids. Up is down. Black is white. Dogs and cats, living together. Mass hysteria. Beyond a heartwarming moment when Echo imparts the encouragement to the senator. Nicely done with Hardcase’s famous last words. Omega showing off her strategic skills. She and Tech need to start teaming up with that more often. The two barflies’ dynamic is absurdly accurate. The times of going to bars and/or the lodge with my dad, you see plenty of guys who had that exact same dynamic.
