if you ever get the DVD or Blu-ray of this story make sure you Don't watch the version with the updated special effects. Most of that is to do with the big fake snake in part 4. That would certainly have been too much for you. I’m so glad you found so much to enjoy in this story otherwise. I agree the themes, storytelling and acting in this are all exceptional. It’s one of my favourite’s too and definitely in my top 3 of Davison’s era, maybe even my no. 1?

The marketing for this story's home release involved a short in which Tegan and Nyssa have a very sweet reunion, up there with anything from Tales of the TARDIS...but unfortunately, it also carries the implication that the Mara was never truly removed from Tegan's head, with the crew just plain not thinking through the horrifying implications of that.

"Don't be silly! You can't mend people, can you?", Hindle, "Kinda" I really like this story. The pop-up-puppet cliffhanger between 2 and 3 is fun. The viewer is really lead to believe that what Todd screams at will be immediately hideous - only to discover, in a beat or two, the psychic summons and things just get deeper and weirder. I am subscribed to another Who reactor (Nicole - you were both on that BBC 60th Who reactor radio segment) and you both have visceral issues with this story - you don't like snakes onscreen, she has another horror response to a scene. As I mentioned last time, I don't go out of my way to watch people feel uncomfortable - but I watch all the Who content I can. The Kinda call the off-worlders the "Not-We". One of the Who fan sites have cleverly adapted this phrase to mean Doctor Who casual viewers - who can watch an episode - but not, as us "We" who are deep into the whole Who lore. As mentioned above, there is a choice of viewing the original TV version (which you saw) and one with enhanced CGI - enhanced CGI of the snake. I could point you at a video that shows the difference - but ... I won't. BTW: one of the kids in the Kinda crowd was apparently Jonny Lee Miller ("Trainspotting", "Elementary"). There are so many good actors here - Panna (the blind shaman) was played by Mary Morris. She had been acting since the 1930s - "Kinda" was broadcast in 1982. That's a whole heap of an acting career! Simon Rouse plays Hindle - the unhinged base officer. Wow, that's a powerful performance as he breaks down. "Well, if you must know, I climbed a tree and dropped apples on his head.", Tegan, "Kinda" And this is a great story for Janet as well! "I think paradise is a little too green for me as well.", The Doctor, "Kinda"

BTW: The link to the video page isn't working as at the time of posting. The video seems to have been posted to the normal reaction tier not the EA one.

Your reaction was brilliant! I was worried you'd just laugh at the fake snake. And I think you'd have coped OK with the remade CGI one to be honest. Glad you weren't put off by the production problems they had with this story and could appreciate the trippy writing.
