So many of these actors must be so excited to see their roles expand this far beyond what they seemed at the start. Maybe most impressive of all is A-Train, who's gone from our introduction to how nasty this show's superheroes can be to a guy with a real conscience. I'm pretty sure I had a similar constant "Oh my goodness" to him saving Hughie. And who could have predicted at the start that Ashley could become this sympathetic through the neverending indignities of her job? Even Homelander is getting to show way deeper emotion than he seemed capable of now that he's struggling so much to relate to his son while also being deeply jealous of him. Of course, a big highlight of this reaction was Singer covertly insulting Vicky. Jim Beaver has become one of those actors who you just instantly buy as being effortlessly awesome (I'm hoping we see him and Giancarlo Esposito together at some point, real unstoppable force vs. immovable object there), and after connecting with him so much on Supernatural it's marvelous to see you get to love him as such a different character here. The show has lately gotten accused of being lazy with its satire, but everything about the ice show was an absolute blast, and I'd even say it was way more creative and fun than the Captain America musical. And it even gets to subtly show Vought's development to more shameless right wing pandering now that Homelander's leash is off. It was a bit hard to suspend disbelief that they'd be quite that reckless with their skates no matter how panicked they were, but I'm always so down for seeing people like this get horribly injured that I don't care at all. I'm especially impressed with the reveal of why Firecracker hates Starlight, and it's actually given the weight it deserves even with how much we've grown to despise her. After a similar reveal was played for a cheap laugh in True Blood, seeing Starlight fully reckon with how wrong she was is marvelous, while also never once feeling like we're being asked to see anything Firecracker's done as being justified. It's a very tricky balance to pull off, and this is how you do it.

I’ll drink to the idea of Jim and Giancarlo sharing screentime. Just the idea sounds amazing. Haven’t heard anything from my brother about this ice show, though it sounds like something to look forward to whenever I see this show. My brother did mention somebody new on the show that feels like the show’s answer to Marjorie Taylor Greene, which sounds ominous. Should be interesting to see the satire on that one. True Blood is another show I’ve not seen, so I can’t speak to the reveal you refer to.

On True Blood, the psychic main character asks why one of the season's villains hates her so much, and then peeks into her brain where we see just a few seconds of when she was a fat girl in school watching a gorgeous blonde girl kiss a boy, the joke being just how petty she is to make that her entire identity. The scene here goes way deeper and shows Starlight really did a horrible thing to Firecracker that she has every right to still hate her for, but that still doesn't justify her becoming a Qanon lunatic.
