"I hate it when people use accessories for evil!", sesskasays, Reaction to "Enlightenment" Tegan gets a nice Edwardian dress with a tiara - what could possibly go wrong with a costume change in the middle of an episode? And I was hoping you wouldn't forget about naming Beatrice before the end of the story - very happy! And I'm also happy that the Doctor replaced his celery at the party - it was starting to look a bit sad. And we get another reprise of him ignoring the result of him tossing a coin. "I am empty. You give me being. I look into your mind and see life, energy, excitement. I want them. I want you. Your thoughts should be my thoughts. Your feelings, my feelings.", Marriner, "Enlightenment" That's off-scale-high creepy. "They've hoisted their moonrakers!", The Doctor, "Enlightenment" I do appreciate the effort they put into the model work in the story. It's not completely convincing, but the attempt was much appreciated. "Oh, Doctor, you're such a fool. Did you really think your Ephemeral mind could defeat me? You've lost. All that awaits is your ultimate destruction.", Wrack, "Enlightenment" Lynda Baron as Wrack - that is a fun casting! When was she last in Classic Who? That's soooo long ago it's almost impossible to remember - she was the off-screen singer of that interminable song: "The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon" in "The Gunfighters" - remember? - it's unforgettable! It's your last chance of cussing At a gunfighter's doom, It's your last chance of nothin' At the Last Chance Saloon! [Have I just started an ear-worm in your mind?] BTW: Lynda Baron later returned in New Who as the nice shop assistant in "Closing Time" that confused Eleven's relationship with Craig. "Will the TARDIS still function? The console blew up.", "Oh, probably did it the world of good.", Tegan and the Doctor, "Enlightenment"

Both pieces of celery from here and Castrovalva are 'illusory'. They're decoration, but also more like the Doctor wants to see in both cases if he can take something with him, something that won't be needed or missed.

I still have the soundtrack album "Doctor Who: The Music" (one and two), which has most of the music from this story - and others - presented as a musical suite. I listened to that album probably far more often than is strictly healthy over the years; it kind of ingrained itself into my memory. I love Lynda Baron's line delivery when describing Turlough's devious mind ("Even a murky one such as yours!") Just for that one line, she's pure Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. And I noticed for the first time that the Black Guardian becomes all negative when he gets consumed; a neat little callback to his first appearance at the end of The Armageddon Factor.

I have the BBC Radiophonic Workshop 21 and Soundhouse. Lots of lovely stuff on these and played a great deal when I had a record player. Really do need to get one again if poss. Annoyed that they are sitting there, silent.
