Yeah, I watch the Star Wars trailers largely to ascertain the likely tone of the respective show. Marvel tends to be too spoilery, and like the Walking Dead shows, it’s more fun to go in blind and fresh when sharing the shows with you, Jess. Now to Agatha All Along. Or was it Agatha and The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe. Of the fake titles, that one was my favorite, and the one that I wish was the one used. As to your disclaimer, well I only saw the episode once last night myself. Yours is the first reaction I’ve seen. So, I am unable to spoil much in terms of what you’re talking about, but I certainly take your point. Oh, how I have MISSED Kathryn as Agatha. You and me both on LOVING the True Detective of it all. And great timing as it comes on the heels of Jodie Foster winning a well-deserved Emmy for True Detective. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Good notes on how Agatha is still bubbling beneath the surface whilst trapped in the Scarlet Witch’s spell. Speaking of the Scarlet Witch, as mentioned: She’s really most sincerely dead. The coroner averred. He did, after all, thoroughly examine her. Loved that reference. It is great how the identity of the body is not the biggest mystery, yet its unraveling is done very well. Aubrey Plaza makes a solid character entrance. Fairly easy to clock that she fills a similar role to the role Agatha played previously. Shared feelings of the assessment of the woman scorned feel. The sexual tension is FANTASTIC, I hope it’ll last. When Agatha becomes unzipped and cycles through the WandaVision personas, it was just such a joyous moment, and your reaction was everything, Jess. It appears Aubrey is set to be a primary villain for this. It is quite wonderful how Agatha calls out how Aubrey’s character wants the challenge. As an Aries and a Slytherin, that spoke to my soul. And in watching the reaction with you, that thought was more prominent than when I first saw the episode. This mystery witch, if she so desired to see Agatha horizontal and six feet under, she had ample opportunity, but it would have been ridiculously easy, not to mention very unsatisfying. I even commented, “She desires the challenge of the fight! And like me, she must win on her own terms!” Once again, the villains are far too viscerally relatable. Reserving discussions about the boy for a later time. Just like with WandaVision, I got sucked into the fake tv plotlines, and I went, “There I go again! You really keep getting sucked into those plots there, Tom.” Oh, yes, it would have been nice to have had more time with Agatha in certain shows. I must say that you mentioned wishing that the show could have shown some horroresque shows for spooky season. I would have killed for Kathryn as Agatha being superbly wonderful in a Rod Serling type role. Complete with cigarette and everything, which may not be great on Disney+, but they were fine with the nudity, yes? What harm’s some tobacco use going to do? Would have LIVED for Agatha in a Shenanigans by Mike Flanagan homage. I will say that I am greatly relieved that my one prediction over the last three years ended up being wrong. My thought was that given the television influence, an homage to a certain infamously traumatic moment in television history, I’m not going to say what it is for fear of spoilers, would be used as the method for Agatha to break through the fog of lies that the Scarlet Witch left her in. This did not happen, (presumably one reason for that is the goddamn youts wouldn’t understand the reference,) and I am relieved as I don’t think I would have had the strength if they had gone that route. Other small notes, the robe Agatha sported in the end of the episode made me comment, “Oh, I love her robe.” Shared feelings of seeing the old familiar characters from WandaVision. Particularly nice to see Mrs. Hart, which made me say, “Hello, Kitty!” You and I had the same response to Norm turning off the light to make Agatha go home. Your observation, “You know that she could just turn that light right back on?” made me laugh, and note, “Right? That’s what I said!” So, one episode in, and already it is an absurdly wonderful thing, sharing this show with you, Jess. I most anticipate more of the delight to come with great interest. Until then, thank you for the lovely first reaction to Agatha All Along. And concerning the release schedule of the reactions, how you say you’re aiming for Thursdays. If any are late, delayed, what have you, no problem. I’m just hear for the great time that it already is. Again, thanks for the reaction, Jess.

I had serious doubts about this show from the start. I'm not at all one to demand a story "justify its existence," but immediately announcing a spinoff of Wandavision's biggest hit character felt overly reactive in a way the MCU is typically good about avoiding. And the fact that it's taken almost four years to get here certainly speaks to their not being prepared with any kind of story beforehand. But apparently taking that long actually did pay off, because I'm absolutely on board here. I've never really gotten much into the "Nordic noir" craze, but I'm certainly familiar enough with the tropes that I got a big kick out of this. All the spoofs of the hard-boiled cop dialogue are spot on, and while I could have also used some mocking of their tendency to use heavy regional accents, I guess SNL's Murder Durder kind of used up all the joke potential there. The actors are once again clearly having a blast getting to throw themselves into this very arch storytelling style, and it lasts just long enough before acknowledging that the first show already let us in on the big secret and there's no point to dragging it out this time. About the only thing that could have made it better is Agnes coming home to a cameo from John Carroll Lynch. Then we get to Aubrey Plaza, who in the absence of conflicting evidence I'm just going to assume is the Shadow King. Everything fits so far, and it just felt a bit deliberate that on the press tour she kept saying how she'd wanted to play a Marvel character for years, with zero acknowledgment that she already has (yeah, she wasn't his true form, but being the only way we knew him for the entire first season definitely lets her claim the role for her own). She and Katherine instantly give some great "bitter exes" energy, and even with the recent news that the Inside Out 2 crew was ordered by Disney to de-gay the movie (mission failed, by the way), I'm fully confident that's going to be made more explicit. I'm also very impressed with Joe Locke, who in just his second ever acting role has to go toe to toe with a seasoned veteran like Hahn while having to do a foreign accent, and he pulls it off perfectly. Heartstopper is a kickass show and it's fantastic seeing its cast expand into bigger things with both this and Yasmin Finney in Doctor Who, plus flowing the other way with Hayley Atwell joining Season 3. I saw an article that the nudity was entirely Kathryn's own idea, and the crew was happy to go along with it. That kind of swing for the fences is something I'll always support, and gives me further hope that the show will continue living up to this level.

I never got much into the fake titles thing. As the greatest comedian of all time put it, if you need to explain the joke, there is no joke. Debra Jo had an especially adorable moment on the press tour that she never dreamed she'd be asked back after Wandavision, so getting that call was a pure delight. And great that she was able to squeeze this in now that she has That '90s Show going.

Well, I just loved Agatha so much. In terms of debuting characters in the MCU, she’s favorite behind Thanos, Red Skull, and Nebula. So, I was just completely on board with her getting her own show. Even so, I do take your point on how it does feel reactive. When the result thus far is this good, I’m not complaining. Like with WandaVision, you can tell the cast is having a blast plunging into the True Detective style show. Wouldn’t have minded if they dragged it out more with other shows, but yes, better to pull the rug early. Definitely could have used John Carroll Lynch. Haven’t seen Aubrey’s previous Marvel character, though, as I understand it, that show wasn’t part of the MCU, so maybe they were making the point more of her being an MCU character. Which at this point is semantics, she WAS a Marvel character, and before that, a comic book character due to Scott Pilgrim. She’s great here so far, hence it’s a minor complaint. Living for the bitter exes thing. They’re definitely going to make that more explicit, even if they tried to “de-gay” Inside Out 2 as you said. To illustrate how they failed at that was I heard nothing about any attempts to de-gay that movie until I see your comment, and that movie was strong with the gay subtext, so yeah, mission failed. I’ve not seen Joe Locke in anything, though I saw that he was Tobias in the newest Broadway production of Sweeney Todd, which just from what I’ve seen of him here, he’d be perfect for that character. And it’s going to be pretty great seeing him act alongside someone else in the show who makes her MCU debut in the second episode. Said cast member being the one I was most anxiously waiting for in this show. Shared respect for the audacity of Agatha’s nude scene. I’m confident the show will keep up at being the same level of good. Here’s hoping.

It just came out last week that some Disney execs got it in their heads that the gay kiss from Lightyear was the reason it flopped, so they ordered Inside Out 2 to be purged of anything similar. But the crew still managed to sneak some stuff in, like one I just recently noticed thanks to reactions to it going up, that Riley's first look at Val is an identical shot to the Brazilian helicopter pilot with her arm outstretched. I'd also guess that stuff like this and their treatment of The Owl House is why Gina Carano's lawsuit was allowed to proceed, since it makes it a lot harder for them to argue that what she was saying was inherently harmful to their intended reputation.

I’m actually still behind on Lightyear, Onward, Soul, Luca, Elemental, and The Good Dinosaur. That is true about Riley seeing Val mirroring the Brazilian helicopter pilot now I think about it. Never heard of The Owl House, then again, I seem to be one of the only people on the face of the planet who hasn’t gotten massively into Bluey. The thought on why Carano’s lawsuit was allowed to move forward, it makes sense if nothing else.

It’s an awesome show, and includes the first openly LGBT lead in a Disney project. And when that became fully explicit in Season 2, though Season 1 wasn’t at all shy about portraying it, the third was reduced to just three hour-long specials where it’s obvious they had to rush through a ton of stuff.
