A very merry christmas to you as well, Jess! For a long time, i have been fascinated by, and horrified at, the witch trials of yesteryears. So even if the sci-fi aspect of this story is a bit weak (as it has been most of the season, tbf) i thoroughly enjoyed this episode from beginning to end. Rosa might be the "better" episode, but The Witchfinders entertained me almost endlessly. On first viewing, i constantly stopped the video to look stuff up. The methods used to find witches (the needle tool called a "pricker" was often designed to have the needle retract into the shaft, making it seem like no puncture wound had been made), the story about King James (who later in life got less and less convinced that witchcraft was actually a thing) and lots of other stuff. The whole thing tastes of Hammer and 70s occult- and folk horror films. Alan Cumming was brilliant as King James, the mud zombies were genuinely creepy and there was some excellent dialouge. I can see that it's not for everyone, but this really is my favourite episode of the season, by quite some margin.
