This ended up being second to the Loch Henry episode for my favorite of this season. This whole thing felt like a love letter to Hammer Horror and Grindhouse, and it was lovely. It also felt like The Omen in that it felt just ambiguous enough to ponder how much of it is real, like Richard Donner said his goal when filming especially the death scenes of that film was, “This was the worst day of my life. You’ll never believe what happened.” It felt the same here how much of this is real or if it is all in her head could be argued either way. When I saw Anjana Vasan, it took a minute before I recognized her from Killing Eve. She was great in this episode. Paapa Essiedu, likewise was great. The initial set-up of this episode was BEYOND fucking triggering. Nearly ten years of retail now had me feeling this episode on an absurdly visceral level. Though I haven’t had too many, if any bad coworkers as a matter of fact. One or two past bosses were FUCKING AWFUL that’s for goddamn sure. I did love you not liking the coworker here, especially loved your comment “You know guys, you shouldn’t wish to do violence on people. You shouldn’t. ...But that... that woman would try me.” I said, “She’d affect me the same way.” and then later, loved your saying, “Three killings? Three, uh, that, that coworker, I don’t know that she’s going to make it.” I had a dark laugh at first, that the murdering what have you had to be done on May Day lest the world ends, made me think they’ve raised the stakes some from trying to achieve a bountiful harvest. Second, when you mentioned putting yourself in her shoes on choosing who to kill, I thought, “I don’t know. That’s a pretty tall order to ask of a retail worker, because how the hell do you narrow it down to just three. Even if you only stuck with the obnoxious customers, especially if you only stuck with the obnoxious customers.” I shared your thought on the triple-scotch being a hell of a first drink. I said, “This job gets VERY stressful sometimes, Jess, though this lady would be well advised to go slow as that stuff will take the paint off her stomach.” Striking when she went off the deep end and grabbed the “Killing jacket.” Makes me realize I am slacking in that department as I don’t have a killing jacket. Alas. Loved when the music started sounding like Jerry Goldsmith’s beautiful Oscar winning music from The Omen. All in all, a fantastic final episode, and a wonderful reaction, Jess. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the season. It was a delight to share it with you.

You may be deeply triggered if you watch Elemental.

Oh? Haha. Ok, well that sounds ominous. Haven’t seen it yet, so I look forward to that bout of being triggered.
