Yes, a very action heavy episode. Start with the opening scene. When we had the first scene of Negan, I immediately clocked Lucille. I loved your own reaction. And when you queried, “Flashback?” I chimed in with, “That was my assessment as well.” An assessment confirmed when we saw Steven Ogg as Simon. It warms my heart to hear you say it warmed your heart to see Steven as Simon again. Interesting to see Negan and Simon’s reaction to the Croat’s actions. Particularly with Simon who’s not the paragon of sanity to begin with, and his own future actions which make his protestations here ring somewhat hollow. Yet if even he’s saying what happened is beyond the pale even by his standards, and assuming he is genuine about that, that says something. Concerning Luther and you wanting to know where Negan stashed Luther. You and me both on that one. I was honestly impressed seeing as how Luther was a big fella. Yeah, I get how you were saying you wished Maggie would have shot straight with Negan about Ginny. I assume her keeping it secret was partly so Negan’s focus would be on the mission, thus it was going to be nice for her to tell him the truth prior to her discovering about Luther. I liked Negan accepts her anger about it, and takes exception to her acting as if she’s, per his own description, “never did something you needed to explain.” Certainly, a striking moment when Negan and Maggie come across the walker that they think might be Hershel. Yes, Lauren’s acting in that moment gets to you. Jeffrey’s acting, likewise, was excellent. Željko Ivanek as the Croat is continuing to be one of my absolute favorite parts of this show. I’m torn between sharing your concern for our series leads and the group and LIVING for the Croat bringing the theatre. A big highlight of Negan and the Croat’s reunion. I love the look on the Croat’s face when Negan saves Perlie and how you see his worldview begin to upend. Speaking of Perlie, yes, that was quite a moment when after Negan saved his life, he holds him at nail-gunpoint. I loved, Jess, the look on your face at that moment and your own comments. Me, I said, “You fucking SERIOUS, man!?” right before Negan deadpanned, “You’re a dick.” which gave you and me both a good laugh. After the episode ended, I was ruminating on it, thinking either he’s going to try to get Negan off the island and back to wherever, or he’s just going to try to kill Negan on the spot. It led me to say aloud, “Supposing Perlie does simply shoot Negan on the spot, I’m just curious. After killing Negan, given the present situation, what is it exactly that the ungrateful dick is planning on doing next? Especially considering the gaping hole in his leg.” Now Maggie and the group are going into the sewers, an act I figured would get to you some, considering your claustrophobia. A solid episode, and a terrific reaction, Jess, thanks.
