This is pretty much universally considered one of the show's worst episodes, with its inherently uncomfortable premise of a black woman who wears a dog collar and calls a white guy her "master." And it's from the same writing duo as the similarly hated episode with the racist ghost truck way back when. If you're wondering how they keep getting work on the show, well, one of them being Robert Singer's wife probably has a lot to do with it.

Ok, so I’m not alone in the rather extreme discomfort on that specific aspect of the episode. I’m seeing the episode, I have an expression like Jess had during the Talons story in Classic Who, that “You’re all seeing this too, right?” look, and I’m thinking, “Someone please tell me this is just a case of colorblind casting which backfired because nobody sat down and gave much thought to any implications that result from the casting.” Last Week, I struggled with how to phrase comments about it properly. Couldn’t get there in a way that I thought wouldn’t offend, so I decided not to say anything specific about that for fear of saying something wrong.

This show has a ton of poorly aged racial stuff, most of all the running gag of Dean's fetish for Asian women with a gong sound every time it comes up.

This is the one episode of this season I skip on rewatches. A disturbingly off key note in a season I otherwise really rate. This episode (and more specifically the halfway point in it) also marks the exact halfway point of Supernatural - 164th of 327. Shame it has to be this episode that represents such a milestone.
