Totally forgot there was an airshow starting above my house when I was recording this, thank goodness this was my final reaction of the day.

I didn’t notice any cut in the reaction, so I’d say you did a top-notch job on the seamless editing, Jess. Yes, a thoroughly excellent pilot for Next Gen, especially with the emotional crux of putting humanity on trial. I love that you loved Picard just carrying on with his job as he did. I was tickled pink with your reactions to Q and his impish behavior. And it makes me anticipate when you react to his being an omnipotent recurrence. I agree with you how wonderful a job they do setting up the main crew and the basic idea of how they wish to explore and help, such as the creatures in this episode. I forgot Riker and Deanna’s past history. When they had their first scene together with the music, most amusing reaction to that by the way, I rolled my eyes some, thinking it was a love at first sight type deal, and I said, “This show is lucky those two have fantastic chemistry.” Then when they discuss their past, I said, “Oh, right, right, they knew each other prior, never mind.” I believe Picard did read the room. Only, he did like I would have done in that he went “Oh, good.” as a way of saying, “Ok, whatever you two have going on, leave me out of it.” The first scene Picard and Beverly had got to me bad this time and it made me cry some, which I didn’t think would happen. I paused to reel from it, said, “That got to me more than expected. ...Hadn’t anticipated that. ...God.” Your own reaction to that scene was quite sweet, Jess. Likewise, I love the later scene Picard and Beverly have, and your own reaction to it was wonderful. You say you look forward to deep diving into their relationship. That has me most excited, and when you said that, I said, “Ooooh, I am going to enjoy that aspect of this journey most tremendously.” Other highlights of the reaction: your momentary joy over Geordi. Your comment on the computer. Yeah, the computer being able to locate you lickety-split is a mite triggering, I concur. There’s also the part where you say you can’t whistle, you and me both, Jess, it’s a pain in the ass, particularly when I want to sing the Monty Python song. Sucks about the airplane, but then again, you say it was at the end of the day of reacting, so it could have been worse. Thank you so very much for the delightful reaction to the pilot of Next Gen. And now we move onto the rest of the series as we “See what’s out there” as Picard says at the end. Thanks again for the reaction, Jess.

I didn't notice a cut but it did go out of sync 3 times, but that's ok. Having watched every Star Trek episode except the original TV series. It's really interesting to watch in hindsight. Q, the eternal child, the omnipotent god. What a strange being.

Many fans consider this a weak series Pilot (probably due to the comparative lack of action); but consider the era when it was made - in 1987,the ONLY Star Trek was TOS; and it's characters had become legendary and beloved. Concentrating on TNG's brand new ensemble cast of characters, therefore, was an extremely wise move on Gene Roddenberry's part. He wanted the fans to become familiar with this Enterprise-D crew just as quickly as possible; and to put across his intention of TNG being a series about ALL the major crew (their personal histories; their relationships etc) - rather than just two or three of them. Back in the late 80's, the BBC decided (in its wisdom) that Science Fiction was for the kiddies; and it subsequently not only terminated DR Who, but also happily supressed TNG (to which it owned the terrestrial broadcasting rights). The BBC didn't begin to broadcast the series until 1990 (after the management hierarchy had changed). Up until then, TNG could only be watched in the UK by renting the VHS releases from CIC Home Video. I remember renting Farpoint, and (as a fan of TOS) being extremely surprised, and impressed, by how quickly I had become attached to these brand new characters. I don't believe this would have happened as quickly if the first story had been all about epic space battles etc. It also helped that the VHS release also contained the next episode in the series as well. By the end of THAT one, I was firmly hooked!

I'm sorry my dear, but watching you spike the lens when the jet flew over was just delightful.
