Another solid episode. It is refreshing, yes, we are two for two with communities that Daryl has stumbled upon that are benevolent. I liked this group. They felt like the lost boys by way of Thunderdome. Nice to see Daryl get into the tv night. You mention you can’t really see Merle being a Mork and Mindy man. Sometimes appearances can be deceptive, for instance I would wager that Merle was quite fond of Mary Poppins, no? The discussion of not knowing the lost world is certainly a debate. I often think that if you have no concept or memory of before, you really can’t grasp how different after is. And like Daryl says, you can’t miss it. I’ve thought of that with the pandemic in that those born after and/or too young to have any real recollection of it have no frame of reference how the world went through what it did, even with texts and history books. The concept of lying and how it is done in various ways is also an interesting debate. I side more with Daryl of in this world, lying’s not going to help much in the long run. That could be because I’m like Spock who prefers not to lie unless there’s a logical reason to do so. Unless there is a deliberate and specific reason to lie, I avoid lying, and even when I lie, I still strive to tell the truth whilst lying. It is interesting exploring the lying in this first with the mule, poor thing, and Daryl lying to get the horse. I’m with you on though the teacher is not saved, the group does have medicine now. And though yes, there is grief that the girl in charge was unable to save the teacher, there’s still the line I love from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, “But I tried, didn't I? Goddamn it, at least I did that.” If I was Daryl, I’d have imparted that. The boorish American was MOST insufferable and intolerable. Listening to him talk, I said, “He’s one of THOSE Americans, oh joy.” I’m with you in that I probably would have just killed him outright. I’d have a voice in my head sounding like Palpatine, saying, “Kill him. Kill him now.” Probably go to town on him like Negan did to Spencer, though first I’d yell at him, “NEWSFLASH, ASSHOLE: there is no home; the whole world has turned to shit-soup!” His death was MOST enjoyable to see, and the enjoyment was matched by seeing your reaction to it, complete with the delightful wordplay. You mention about knowing French and practicing in the language of where you’re going on vacation, best of luck with that by the way. I admit that I’m not fluent in any other language than English. I know some words and phrases here and there, but I have a long way to go before being even conversational in non-English languages. Now onto the flashbacks. First off, massive credit to Clémence Poésy for how excellent she was through all of it. Yeah, most intriguing seeing the beginning of the fall of France from her perspective, as well as her story during that time, loved your comment on Isabelle needing her survivor outfit by the way. When it was revealed that her sister was pregnant, all the pieces slid into place about Laurent, and I said, “You’re the kid’s aunt. Aren’t you?” I confess I held worry for you, Jess, as I began to worry how much would be shown of the scenes of her giving birth/how graphic would it be. It wasn’t that much, but I was thinking of you whilst watching those scenes, remembering House of the Messy and Kill Bill, and hoping that it wouldn’t be bad for you. Thankfully, it was not. And I agree with you on the final scene of the episode that Clémence did an amazing job conveying how Isabelle was in shock following the journey she’s gone through. Again, a solid episode, and it made for a lovely reaction, Jess. Thank you.
