Thank you for a wonderful reaction. I like this story in general. It does deal with a very dark theme but presented in an oddly fun way. That's Classic Who for you! On the creatures, I thought they looked kind of cute, like they might make good pets, but must've been hell for the actors inside them. The people that got into those costumes really were the unsung heroes of Doctor Who, rarely recognised but often proved to be the making of the story. One of the guys inside the Ice Warrior costomes had to fall over in a scene with 2 & reported that he nearly cut a certain something off! Ouch! Tom Baker remarked the the Mandrels reminded him of Muppets in as much as they were top heavy! See you next time!

I do really like the look of the Mandrels, but yeah they weren't the most dexterous and I often feel with Classic Dr Who that sometimes there needed to be someone to create cohesive creature movement. Though even when they did it with Menoptera etc in Web Planet the effect was a bit bizarre!
