As the Twelfth Doctor would say, that's one hell of a bird. Both seasons of this show have had their ups and downs for me, but this is a truly beautiful ending and I dearly hope they have the guts to stick with it and just let this be Loki's ending. I especially appreciate that the crew trusts us in the audience to understand the brutal irony and tragedy of Loki's final act without spelling out any of it in dialogue, no reminders about his constant yammering about being "burdened with glorious purpose" and wanting a throne, or even that he's apparently going to be separated forever from these people he grew so attached to which caused him to leave behind his evil ways. It's all just in Hiddleston's face, and I dearly look forward to the kinds of roles he gets in the future with a decade plus of this performance on his CV (by the way, definitely check out The Night Manager if you haven't). I actually gasped out loud at the reveal that Yggdrasil the World Tree had been right in front of us the whole time, unrecognizable simply from being turned sideways, and the emotion just kept building from there. In a year that I've been calling for a while the single best year for movies that I've ever experienced, this ending still manages to stand out as a high point.

Jess, like I said on youtube, you are killing it with the Glam-Loki vibe, especially with that lovely shade of green. I’m biased sure as green is my favorite color, preferably darker shades like Steve McQueen’s Mustang in Bullitt, but the dress you have, again, a lovely shade. Concerning the finale: A series finale that felt like A Christmas Carol, All Good Things..., and Heaven Sent all wrapped and bundled up into one big wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey ball. I really should assess the state of my mental health because I derived far too much amusement from the Timely being liquified into linguini montage. The usage of A Fifth of Beethoven likely had something to do with it. You know, the dissonance between what you’re seeing and the music selection. And your own reaction when you were dancing along to it was delightful by the way. I can’t improve upon anything you’ve said in this reaction/post-reaction thoughts and commentary. One thing I will add is that the line, “You’re replacing one nightmare with another!” is a sentiment that is familiar on a, um... intimate level. I especially loved your thoughts on Mobius, especially your read of his not wanting to see his life on the timeline due to fear of the unknown. I mean, bad or unpleasant certain things may be, better the devil you know, right? I loved your additional thoughts that Mobius is motivated to visit his life due to Loki no longer being there. I am most pleased to see, Jess, that you had a marvelous time with this season, and that you loved the ending.

I did catch a statement a couple of hours ago saying that this will be the definitive end of the series. Whether that decision sticks remains to be seen. Yeah, Tom sold everything with just his face remarkably well. I have, by the way, seen The Night Manager. LOVE le Carré. As Red Skull described it way back when, in the first Captain America film, “Yggdrasil. Tree of the world. Guardian of wisdom. Und fate, also.”

With Mobius, I was oddly enough really reminded of the movie Spirited (an instant Christmas classic for me that I now plan to make a yearly tradition), where Ebeneezer Scrooge is revealed to have only lived a few more weeks after his redemption, and is terrified of the idea that it wasn't real and he would have slipped back into his old self if he'd lasted any longer. Admittedly, I'm a little unclear on what exactly is supposed to be happening in that last scene; is that his old self before he left, is there another version of him living the life he should have had, is it even another reality entirely? This episode coming out the same day as The Marvels could even have some interesting implications there.

Good question as to the specifics of the last scene with Mobius. Like a lot of things, I’m choosing to read it like The Lady or the Tiger? where the ultimate answer is up to the individual reader, or viewer here. If they choose to provide an answer that is, which I never did with that story; I liked the open-ended ambiguity. Nice to hear you have the plan for the new Christmas tradition by the way.
