It's very much appreciated that we get an entire episode devoted simply to mourning Kanan, even to the point of having the major action scene happen entirely offscreen so it wouldn't distract from the emotion. And if his death was unexpected from Disney overlords, then Zeb nearly beating Rukh to death with his bare hands goes even further. Even the often silly-sounding avoidance of the word "death" works here, as it very much feels like Ezra himself can't bring himself to use the word and can only say "gone." And once that's over, it's time to really ramp up toward the show's climax, complete with an appearance by Ian McDiarmid himself as Palpatine. And just like James Earl Jones talking about Ahsoka, it's positively spine-tingling to hear Ian talking about Mortis and Kanan, like the show is being bound tighter with the OT as a single whole. And the animators get a chance to go all-out with the temple doorway. Speaking as someone who can barely draw stick figures, any kind of animation quality above Worker and Parasite is like black magic to me, and putting 2D figures onto a 3D surface is a level of complexity I don't even want to think about.

Yes, I most appreciated how the show just had an episode for our heroes to grieve. Zeb beating the ever-loving shit out of Rukh was lovely to see. Good point about the Never Say “Die” trope. There have been times where I’ve forced myself to say “died” or “dead” when I’ve lost loved ones, as that’s the only way it starts to sink in and feel real. Ezra, he’s not close to being ready to even say that because then it becomes too real, thus isn’t ready to contend with that truth just yet. IMMENSELY wonderful hearing Ian say, “The Mortis Gods.” and Kanan’s name. There were screams of joy hearing that for the first time. The animation at the end was sublime.
