Quite the episode to jump back into this show. I knew that you would have a strong reaction to seeing Strand (Or is it, Anton?) in this episode. I had a similar thing of being slightly thrown; the one thought was, “Is this by choice or amnesia that he’s going under a different name?” His reaction upon seeing Madison confirmed it was the former. It was an emotional moment where Strand discovers what a delight it is after so long to see a familiar face, then it shows how he’s trying to deny his identity in that, as you said, he pushes Madison away with an “I don’t know who you are, Lady.” energy. Strand was showcasing a most stalwart determination to proverbially and literally run from his nefarious yesteryears. Not surprising, given as you observed, his actions in the season previous. And as you stated, he is a, um, shall we say a divisive figure. I’ll stand by your loving him as, yes, Colman is quite exceptional in the role. The character also reminds me of other beloveds of mine, such as the late great Eli Wallach as the famed Tuco Benedicto Pacífico Juan María Ramírez (Known as the rat) from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and also Hondo in Star Wars. Besides which, given my predilection of favoring villains, quite passionately I might add, who am I to judge? I found Frank, Strand’s husband (I think, I too didn’t catch specifics.) interesting. I liked how he admitted to knowing Strand was keeping things from him. And how it wasn’t so much that which he was chagrined by as he had secrets of his own, rather that Strand doesn’t trust him enough to be completely open about his sordid reign at the tower. It is interesting how, yeah, given what you know that Strand has done, it does strain credulity that Frank would forgive Strand for his past. I don’t necessarily blame you for laughing about that. I read it some as Frank is in a way acknowledging that maybe he wouldn’t forgive, but he wants Strand to take that leap of faith. Like a thought of, “You’re afraid I’ll hate you if you tell me the truth; that I’ll reject you. Try me. Take that chance that I won’t.” Great moments between Strand and Madison. I still recall Negan’s line in Dead City of maybe everyone’s a bad guy at this point. And while, perhaps not everyone here is a bad guy, it’s the thing of who at this point is a “good” guy. As you observed, Strand and Madison both have done bad things, and they are trying to atone. Now to Troy. When you mentioned receiving a spoiler, I suspected it was tied to him. I don’t recall saying anything about that. I did hear his name get floated around so I too was not shocked by him appearing. Though, again, I don’t believe I said anything to you about him being in this, Jess. I’m not saying that to be self-congratulatory, merely stating facts. And seriously, if I did in fact spoil that, please tell me. I don’t believe I did, but if you say I did, then I apologize, Jess. The bigger spoiler that I got concerned Alicia, though I kept myself in the dark, specifics-wise, until I saw the episode. In any event, we have quite the conflict a brewing for this final half of the final season, and just from this episode’s reaction, I know that I am going to have a great time sharing the rest of the season with you, Jess, thank you for the terrific reaction.
