Great to see the Atom Eve special wasn't just a one-off story and it's actually going to be important to this season, with both her parents and the Lizard League. Though I'm rather less enthralled with the Shapesmith, who would already be running up HARD against my disbelief that people wouldn't catch on that he's a Martian even if it wasn't public knowledge in this show's world that shapeshifting Martians are a thing. Really hoping that at least the Immortal will later be revealed to have known the whole time and was just letting it play out until his allegiance became clear.

A lot going on in this episode. I giggled up a storm over again seeing Reginald VelJohnson as Prinicipal Winslow. Yes, lovely to see William again. I am loving the exploration of the fear that Mark will turn out like his dad. Even if that isn’t the most paramount concern, it would still reside in the dark corners of his mind, and as you posit, it’s a fear that others would doubtlessly have. In Cecil’s case, he’s already slightly uneasy about Mark not following orders to the letter. And he’s forced to be pragmatic enough to start formulating potential contingency plans if Mark goes off the deep end. Can’t say as I entirely blame him. I do really like how Mark goes back to save the Atlanteans even though they were cheering for his death. There’s always something to be said about saving people you don’t have to, even if it could prove detrimental to you. I liked Eve’s plotline. I inadvertently called her altruistic acts backfiring some. Reason being, when the lady pointed out about her actions being up to code, through my experiences of hearing from my dad and my brother and their jobs where such a thing is a concern, I thought it was a fair question. It sucks when her dad reveals what happened. Worse, how he wasn’t even altogether incorrect, he just went about it in a completely mean-spirited way, leading me to quote an oldie but a goodie, “You’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole.” Brings us to dear Debbie. First, it hurt seeing her get angry at the one asshole yelling at his wife. Second, I’m with you with that moment where she vented speaking to you the way you did. I understood everything you said, Jess, especially that thing where you said you’re a very in your head type of person. That’s me as well. I too try not to feel certain things until I can process in a healthy way. And I concur, it is absolutely not the healthiest thing to do, yet, I don’t have many viable alternatives. It reminds me how you and I heavily related to Shirley in Haunting of Hill House. I add that I relate too much to Spock’s line, “I have noted that the healthy release of emotion is frequently very unhealthy for those closest to you.” I still agree with you of it was great that Debbie finally allowed a moment to just vent. It hit close to home, and I distracted myself by letting the anger bubble over as I yelled. “One. One time. I just want one time where Sandra Oh can play a character who has a loving, healthy, and happy romantic relationship, that ultimately concludes with her and her partner being together, and they live happily! Is that really too much to fucking ask for!?! GODDAMN IT!!” Everything you said about Debbie’s scenes, I loved everything you had to say, Jess. Likewise, the rest of the thoughts you expressed were wonderful. Other things. I also am withholding speculation about the WandaVision style mystery with Donald. Though the idea of a clone and/or Real Life Model seems plausible. Also, the Shapesmith plotline, in addition to his being conspicuous as all hell, has me saying, “Jean-Ralphio as a hyper paranoid shapeshifting Martian. ...Well, that’s got the potential to be chaotic as all shit.” Lovely reaction, Jess, thanks.

It is good to see continuity with the special. It does strain some credulity about the Martian. You mention hoping the Immortal knows, the idea seems likely he’d clock the truth, and like you said, is sort of rolling with it to see how things play out. I like that idea, if nothing else.

It's especially intriguing that Donald himself doesn't seem to realize anything's off, and Cecil is apparently keeping that from him. I'm now thinking it's a situation like in the movie Moon, though I won't spoil that for anyone who hasn't seen it.
