I’ve been looking forward to this one. Welcome to the World Between Worlds!

While making the Season 2 finale, Filoni’s intention was that we would simply never see Ahsoka again, and the fans could make up their own minds about how her fight with Vader ended. But the fans made such a racket demanding to know that he finally gave in and introduced the World Between Worlds, a part of franchise lore that I’m kind of amazed a bunch of entries haven’t made extremely irresponsible use of by now to make it a whole Terminator Genysis thing. And I’ll always be a bit amused that Filoni was well aware that the first thing everyone would be asking was “Why don’t they use it to save Kanan?” and nipped it in the bud. And of course we get more of Ian McDiarmid, with Ahsoka not even trying to do anything but run perfectly encapsulating what a threat he is. In the next episode, from what I’ve seen not many people were actually fooled by Ryder’s supposed betrayal, especially coming right after Ezra saying it would only take one person to free Lothal, but that doesn’t take away from the emotion at all. Actually, the thing that most makes it seem plausible is that this kind of totally heroic role was always very unusual for Clancy Brown. This is the Kurgan, and Captain Hadley, and Lex Luthor! I also very much appreciate that in bringing back as many people as possible to take part in the grand climax, they didn’t try to sell us on Azmorigan joining the fight. Much as it would have been fun to see James Hong play a heroic role in the franchise, there’s just no way to make that believable like it just barely is with Hondo.

I do recall the intent was to have a Bolivian Army Ending for Ahsoka on Malachor. And yes, the fans spoke up enough that Filoni gave the people what they wanted. I think the reason more entries haven’t tackled the World Between Worlds being “made extremely irresponsible use of by now to make it a whole Terminator Genysis thing” as you described, one, how many people in the galaxy know about it? Two, if authors or showrunners are to do so, I could see worrying about the writing being just right. And three, Terminator Genysis was the worst Terminator film ever made, thus I don’t see too many people wanting to emulate that all that much. Yes, there is a bit of humor about Filoni setting a record for bud nipping vis-à-vis the question of using the World Between Worlds to save Kanan. Always a tremendous joy to have more of Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor. It speaks volumes that Ahsoka just opts to run from old Sheev. Pryce actually spelled out the biggest red flag about Ryder’s turning stoolie being false in that, she noted it seemed too cowardly even for him. And she’s so desperate that she takes the chance that it is real. Good point though about Ryder being against Clancy’s usual type thus helping give an idea maybe he is being genuine. I did think about that with Azmorigan that it’s too implausible that he’d be part of the heroes in the finale. Shame though it is that we don’t get more of the great James Hong.

Oh, by the way, I’m caught up to the third episode of this newest season of Fargo. I’m loving it so far. It feels like they listened to those who shared my biggest complaint which was it felt touch overly ambitious and cluttered, and they tried to do too much. Loving the new season. The one plotline is a wee bit bizarre, and I wonder if it will have payoff or be symbolism for symbolism’s sake, or both. The villainous character you mentioned, upon being introduced to them, my thought was, “So, we have Sheriff Ed Tom Bell meets Reverend Harry Powell. Goddamn it, this is going to be beautiful.” And Jennifer Jason Leigh is killing it as I knew she would, leading me to say, “Oh, she is delightful!”

I’m also extremely intrigued about whether the numerous explicit references to Nightmare Before Christmas are building up to anything, or maybe Hawley’s just a big fan. It could honestly go either way with him.

At the moment, I would surmise that he’s just a big fan, but I would be fully on board if the multiple references are in fact building towards something.
