Chapter #3: Plans.
The next day, the great hall was a mess, it seemed like, after Harry called them out, most people were now more accepting of Neville, and now they thought of him as cool. Harry was curious how this situation would turn out in the future.
Neville, despite his fame and everything he has achieved until now, has never been able to have too much confidence in himself, but now that he was a fourth champion most people were thinking of him as amazing, it was different, the poor guy has not even been good at quidditch so, the closest thing he has to become some kind of cool athlete is this one.
But it seems like, as a consequence of his newfound confidence, he has been ignoring Hermione, Ron was with him as always, it seems like they’ve been friends way long before they started attending Hogwarts, so, it makes sense for him to act like that, but abandoning Hermione was something terrible, but he wasn't going to let her be alone for too long, Harry decided to do something he promised her last night.
“Hey Hermione,” Harry said, surprising her.
“Oh…Hey Harry, do you need something from me?” She said, clearly not looking very happy about being ignored by her friend.
It was more than obvious that the abandonment affected her.
“Oh, not much. I just wanted to honor our promise of you eating with me, but if you don’t want—” Hermione’s eyes widened at Harry’s words.
She quickly rose to her feet and grabbed his hand, now the hall was looking at them with curious eyes, so, she quickly let go of his hand.
“Right, I’m sorry I forgot about it, but…Things have been weird since last night,” Hermione told him with a worried tone.
Harry decided to just nod and listen to what she had in mind as they walked towards his house’s table, it seemed like Neville was too scared to face the trials, but then, when he came back from the meeting with the other champions, the whole Gryffindor house made a party to celebrate him.
He was a bit taken aback at first, but all the attention he got was finally because of something he could achieve by himself, and not his parents' sacrifice, almost everyone wanted to become a champion, so, the fact that they had a potential one in Gryffindor was something great.
But it seems like that quickly got over his head, now there was no moment when he wasn’t surrounded by fans, and somehow, he was happy with this kind of attention, Harry wasn’t surprised though, Neville always had the potential to become arrogant he just needed the right circumstances for that, it’s not hard for someone with low self steem to become like that when they get sudden attention, Harry listened to the whole thing with a calm expression.
“Well…If they don’t want to talk to you, then…It’s their loss and my gain,” he said with a happy smile as he sat next to her.
She blushed but smiled.
“Hermione…I’d like to spend more time with you so we could get to know each other better, I hope you don’t mind my intentions,” he told her without hesitation.
She was trying her best not to collapse, she was too lost in his eyes, but in the end, she managed to nod, she was acting so much out of character that it was becoming annoying for her, but she was also happy somehow, this was the first time a handsome guy had given her this much attention.
“I’d love that, Harry,” she told him with a happy smile, and Harry nodded.
They were too lost in each other’s eyes, unaware that many women were staring at them with interest and some of them with pure jealousy, he may not have been famous, but there was no doubt that Harry was one of the most handsome guys in school.
So, seeing the bookworm with him was such a blow to those women’s egos, still, neither Harry nor Hermione paid enough attention to them, they only cared about each other, and soon, they started to enjoy their breakfast before they went to class together.
After classes, Harry was holding Hermione’s hand as he led her through the seventh floor, he was too happy to show her his secret place that he had found after he asked the elves in the kitchen if they knew of a place where he could hide to study and practice, that’s why he has managed to hide his power until the right time comes.
“Dancing trolls? What is this, Harry?” She wondered with a confused expression.
Harry didn’t say anything, he just imagined a room that could fulfill all his needs, and then, Hermione gasped when a door appeared in the middle of the wall, soon, Harry explained to her about the room of requirement and how she could make it appear, but he begged her not to share this secret with anyone else.
Soon the door was opened and Hermione was surprised to find a perfect study place, there were comfortable seats and a huge library ready for them to use as they pleased.
“Wow,” that’s the only thing Hermione was able to say as she stared at the sight.
Soon, Harry led her towards the seats.
“Ah, it’s good to be back here,” Harry told her with a calm expression.
“What is it that you wanted to tell me when you guided me to this amazing place, Harry?” She asked with a curious expression.
“I’d like to talk to you about what we discussed yesterday, I know it sounds crazy, like I’m trying to become the next dark lord, but I truly believe that muggles and wizards could do amazing things together,” Harry told his crush, and she nodded.
“I agree, but…How can we achieve something like that without being seen as terrorists? The magical world is too keen on keeping that outdated statute of secrecy, it’s not like we can’t come back to the same state if things go wrong,” she explained, and Harry nodded.
“The magical population is decreasing at an incredible speed, it seems like fewer and fewer magical babies are born in this country every year, having a culture is cool, but surviving is even better,” Harry told her with a serious expression.
She nodded, and soon there was a comfortable silence.
“We need more people to help us,” Harry told her, and she was a bit worried that if more people got to know about their plans, the risk of being discovered would be higher.
“I agree, but…How can we find people we can trust?” Hermione asked the million-galleon question.
Having loyal people is hard, especially when you’re offering them something that could change their lives forever, either they’re excited or too scared to do anything.
“I think we should start by planting the seeds of discord, we should give posters to the whole world to see, they should know about our idea of destroying the statute of secrecy, we should encourage the citizens to demand its end,” Hermione said hopefully,
Harry was silent for a few moments, but then, he realized that Hermione’s plan didn’t sound too bad, he considered the pros and cons, and he was more than happy with her idea.
“That sounds great, we need to write all the reasons why we want that to happen and how we can benefit from it,” Harry added, and she nodded.
It seems like they were now in the same channel, and somehow, while they worked, their eyes were locked and they were grinning, soon, they shared a kiss, it was short and sweet, and yet, they were eager to taste their lips once again, it was a blissful experience.
