Chapter #27: Suspicions, part II.
Draco arrived at his home after that intense session of memory watching with Harry, and all the things they learned have surely made him realize that not everything is what it seems.
Lord Voldemort and his followers declared Dumbledore a terrorist, someone who was putting their society at risk because of his constant support for muggles and muggleborns, one of the most important figures of the country being a pro-Muggle was something that didn’t make the important people happy.
So, many of them cheered at his death, and the truth the government told them was accepted, Dumbledore needed to go for the greater good of their magical society but now, Draco realized that all that was nothing but bullshit, it was all a lie, Dumbledore planned his death and not only that, he also managed to get important information from the dark lord, information that has been guarded since then by the one who was to follow his steps.
If it weren’t because of the magical vow he made to Harry Potter, he would’ve told his father immediately what James Potter was up to, how it was James Potter and his family's duty to destroy the dark lord according to Dumbledore, and how he had the object the dark lord had been obsessed with getting his hands on.
Draco was too focused on his thoughts until he heard a female voice that belonged to the woman he appreciated the most.
“Draco…I’m glad you’re back home,” she said with a warm smile before she hugged him.
The blonde wizard quickly looked at the source of the voice, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit confused, but then he smiled and hugged her back, everyday there was danger but at least, he was happy that he was helping to make a better world, and even if his parents would hate him for what he’s doing behind their backs, he has no regrets, he prefers them to hate him than for them to be dead.
He doesn’t feel any remorse, he knows that at some point, the dark lord is going to get rid of his father and mother, no matter how much they try to believe that the dark lord would never harm them, if it served to him, he was going to do it, it was him, their son's duty to keep them alive as their brains were already washed by his ideas.
“Are you okay, dear?” Asked the older witch with a raised brow.
It took a few moments for Draco to get back to reality, but then, he nodded as fast as he could.
“Yes, mother, I’m fine…I’m just tired,” he wasn’t lying, but he wasn’t being completely honest about his activities.
Narcissa wanted to question him more about his whereabouts, however, there was another reason why she was waiting so eagerly for him to arrive, she suddenly hugged one of his arms and led him as fast as she could inside the house.
“Mother, what’s the hurry?” Draco asked, amused at his mother’s attitude.
“It’s your father…He wants us at the dinner table to discuss something!” She explained, and Draco couldn’t help but feel worried. “Relax, dear, it’s nothing wrong, to be honest, he looked every happy,” the blonde witch told him with a weak smile.
Draco was wondering what got his father very happy, these days, something like that wasn’t very common, there was no doubt that his father was nothing but a puppet minister, the dark lord had never taken into account his ideas and proposals, he was only the image, the real minister was the dark lord, not his father.
“Oh, dear Cissa…Draco, I’m glad you two decided to join me,” Lucius Malfoy said, enjoying a glass of wine.
Soon, he started to fill two other glasses, which surprised Draco, he rarely does something like this with his own hands, the elves usually take care of things like that.
Still, he wasn’t planning on ruining his father’s happy mood, so, he gladly accepted the glass and the three clashed their glasses gently before they drank, this wine came from the Malfoy personal collection, and those bottles were more for bragging rights and display rather than for celebrations, and yet, his father decided to make use of one of them this evening.
“Father…What are we celebrating?” Asked Draco with a curious expression.
“Ah, I’m glad you asked, Draco…Cissa, son, I received great news, it’s about the Potters,” the minister laughed.
Draco couldn’t help but become paler than he already was, now, not only was he worried about Henry, but also about James, Lily, Harry, and, somehow, he was even worried about Nymphadora.
“So…What did the Potters do, father?” Draco wanted more information.
Lucius laughed again.
“Not ‘do’, son, it’s more like what's happening to them…It seems like their younger son was caught breaking the curfew, and now the secret service is going to make him slander his own family, or else, he’s going to be tortured until he loses his sanity!” Celebrated Lucius.
Draco couldn’t help but gulp, Narcissa was smirking, she didn’t care about the Potter boy, but she knew that if he was in pain, Lily Potter was going to be in pain too, and if there was someone Narcissa Malfoy hated more than anyone else, it was the redhead.
As for himself, Draco didn’t know how to feel about the situation, on one hand, he didn’t want Henry to go through pain in case Harry died, Draco knew he didn’t have to worry about being caught in the crossfire because he knew Harry would prefer to die rather than slander his family.
Draco knows he’ll find a way to die instead of going insane, which will mean he’ll be free from the vow, and yet, he still didn’t feel like he wanted him to die, what an irony, considering that the reason their partnership started was because he and Goyle tried to kill him.
“So…Are they only using the curfew thing as a motive to torture him, or is there something more?” Asked Draco with a fake happy smile.
“Well…If he doesn't accept our terms, he's also going to be sentenced for Yaxley's death,” Lucius answered with a calm tone.
“What? Yaxley’s dead?” Narcissa couldn’t believe it.
She didn’t hold any love for the man, in Narcissa’s opinion, he was like a cockroach, annoying, ugly, and very hard to kill, that's why his passing was such a surprise.
“The dark lord said he is dead, according to him, no matter how much he tries to call him with the dark mark, the link between him and Yaxley is gone, so, the answer’s obvious…The only evidence about Potter being the one who killed Yaxley is circumstantial, he was caught by that Parkinson girl outside of his home after curfew, the same night Yaxley disappeared,” Lucius took a pause.
“And?” Draco knew there was more.
“They’re going to make a show out of the trial, the whole Auror department knows Yaxley has been nothing but a nuisance to Potter’s girlfriend, and so, it seems like they’re using that as a motive, imagine how fun it'll be, the half-breed defending the honor of his metamorph girlfriend!” Lucius was amused as he finished his drink.
“Well, in the end, breaking the curfew is already punishable by death, isn't it?” Narcissa asked, and Lucius nodded. “He should be grateful and accept the deal to slander his family, luckily, we have a good son, and we don’t have to worry about us being in their situation,” Narcissa smiled at Draco.
The younger blonde couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy, here he was pretending he was the same perfect pureblood son and not Harry Potter’s sidekick, right now, he could only show a fake smile to his parents.
