Chapter #22: Danger.
That conference was a success for Harry; he was happy because the seed of doubt was finally planted in the ICW leaders' minds. He knew it was a crazy idea to suggest this; however, if they decided to get rid of the statute of secrecy and somehow things went wrong, they could obliviate the world, it's something they should've tried a long time ago.
Harry arrived at the apartment where he was staying, and he was surprised to find something on the bed. It was a letter. He used his wand to check if it was safe to open it, and when he got a green light, it meant that the thing was safe. He was glad it wasn't dangerous because he was curious about the contents.
“Okay, let’s see…” Harry said as he opened the letter. “Mr. Potter…We’re very interested to hear more about your idea of a world where Muggles and magicals work together. If you’re interested in sharing more details, please have dinner with us at…” Harry smiled as he memorized the address.
He was surprised by the invitation, and then his eyes widened as he saw who sent the letter.
“…With regards, the British prime minister,” Harry’s eyes widened.
Harry is not a fan of politicians, he didn't pay much attention to politics, after all, the system failed him; however, to know that the British prime minister heard his speech and became interested in his ideals meant a lot, he felt vindicated because most wizards and witches would think it’s a crazy idea to break the statute of secrecy and here we have one of the leaders of the muggle world backing his idea.
“I'd better get ready,” Harry said to himself.
Meanwhile, Penelope Clearwater was on the way to Harry’s room. The secret service agent was now wearing a tight red dress that ended way above her knees and black stilettos. She wanted to surprise the younger man; she was going to take him to meet the prime minister, so when she knocked on his door, he almost fainted the moment he opened it.
Harry was surprised to see such a beautiful woman outside his room. He didn’t want to think poorly of her, but as far as he was aware, he had no appointment with a street worker as far as he knew. The logical part of his brain was making him think this was a strategy from his adversaries to catch him in a weird position.
“I’m sorry, miss, but…Do I know you?” Harry questioned him as calmly as possible.
“I hope not, but I’m sure you received a letter from the prime minister’s office, right?” Asked the blonde woman, and Harry’s eyes widened.
“You’re working for them?” He was shocked.
“Yes, and I’m a witch by the way…The name’s Penelope, Penelope Clearwater,” she extended her hand.
Harry was surprised by her claims, and then it clicked for him, he had already heard about the woman, they went to school together, but she was years above him, she became head girl when he was in his third year.
“It’s a pleasure, Miss Clearwater, I’m—” Harry was about to introduce himself, but he was stopped by the beauty.
“Please call me Penelope, and I know you’re Harry Potter…I’ve done my research, you’ve done many interesting things since Neville Longbottom’s death, Harry,” she told him with a raised brow.
“Well, Penelope…I guess you came here to pick me up for the meeting? I never accepted…” Harry tried to play it cool.
“We knew you were going to accept, after all…We share the same dream, Harry, can I call you Harry, right?” She asked, and he remained thoughtful for a while, but then nodded with a smile.
“And that dream is…?” Harry was testing her.
However, compared to women’s tests, this was like basic math.
“For magicals and muggles to work and live alongside, I think both societies would benefit from something like this, and even though I work for the British government, I’m part of something much bigger, a secret organization that wants progress and also wants to stop muggles from nuking each other.” Penelope’s words caught Harry’s attention.
“Well, it seems like I need to have a conversation with you rather than the minister,” Harry joked, and she giggled.
“I wouldn't mind that, Harry, after all, you’re better looking than the minister, but please, don’t tell him that,” she winked at him, and Harry chuckled. “So…You’re coming?” She finally asked.
“Yeah, just give me a minute,” Harry said as he got inside and grabbed the last piece of clothing he needed, his coat, and now he was finally wearing a black suit.
Now that he came back dressed like that, Penelope couldn’t help but admire him. She already saw how good-looking he was during his speech but seeing him like this was a very interesting sight for the blonde witch.
“Shall we get going?” He asked, and she nodded. “Lead the way then,” he suggested with a grin.
Soon they were on their way to the restaurant where the meeting was going to take place. On the way, they spoke a little about their plans. Penelope agreed with many of his ideas and even gave her insight, which Harry appreciated.
“So, even if they’re apparently working for Muggle governments, your organization doesn’t blindly follow them?” Harry questioned with a surprised expression.
“Well, it shouldn’t be too surprising, in fact, the alliance came to be because of the Voldemort threat, the magical governments didn’t want to believe he was coming back but there were evidence that made us believe he didn’t die, so, if the magical world didn’t want to help then we decided to ally with muggles, even though they have no magic, their weapons are quicker than using spells and they're well trained to use them,” Penelope’s words made sense for Harry.
“Yeah, I’m sure when people think of magic, they think they could become as good as Voldemort or Dumbledore, but those wizards are a rare breed, most of us have to think about the spell we want to use and then recite it and make the right hand movement, that takes at least five seconds, in less than that time you can fire a gun and poof…You’re dead or wounded, and there’s no coming back from that if you’re a magical,” Harry agreed with the witch’s logic.
“Yeah, most of us will never reach that skill level, although I see potential in you, Harry.” He blushed at the compliment. “But muggles also have their nuclear weapons, those are their most destructive weapon that could end the world, radiation can even affect magic, but ironically, those can be stopped by us because of the time it takes for the bombs to release the power, so, by working for them we can also avoid a situation like that from becoming real,” the agent told him with a smirk.
Harry was surprised by all the information he was getting; he didn’t know how to feel about other people already working on his dream, but he wasn’t complaining; the more allies, the better.
The conversation was about to continue; however, Penelope suddenly received a call.
“Yeah, we’re on our way, ah…Sorry,” she apologized as her shoulder hit a young Muggle man.
“D-don’t worry,” said the man nervously, and she continued with her call.
“Yes, we’re on our way, minister…Please minister, you’re married!” Penelope rolled her eyes.
However, something shocking then happened: a sound, it was a loud bang, and when she turned back, she saw the man she had hit before, and he was running. Meanwhile, Harry was standing on his feet looking at her with a shocked expression, while there was a hole in his chest.
