Chapter #3: Turning point.
After Harry became an undercover agent at Hermione's orders after his incident with McDonald, he went to the illegal substances department, where he and Hermione were greeted by a red-haired man, but then Hermione kissed the man, and Harry couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
For someone who was always nagging him about protocols and rules, she didn’t seem to care about the fact that relationships between employees are prohibited, however, because she was personally asked by the minister to create this organization, the only condition she asked in return was to be with her beloved who also wanted to join the organization and that was none other than Ron Weasley.
“Harry…I’ve heard what happened…Did he at least suffer?” Asked Ron with a smirk.
“Ron!” Hermione was scandalized.
Harry just chuckled.
“I don’t think so, I think he died too quickly for my own taste,” Harry shrugged his shoulders.
“Well, at least we can sleep at night knowing that the world has gotten rid of that scumbag. Anyway, why are you here? Not that I mind seeing my best friend, though, but you’re from the intelligence department, even though you lack it,” Ron mocked him.
Harry just rolled his eyes.
“Look who’s talking, the one who didn’t want to join my department because most of the time is about reading people, and of course, you hate reading,” Harry mocked his best friend.
“Enough, you two…Ron, I want you to give Harry all the information about the "orgasm/climax potion" case,” Hermione ordered Ron. “Harry’s going to work with you to solve this case; he’s going to go undercover at Malfoy’s manor. It seems like there was an attack on Lucius’ new wife, Susan Bones. She survived, but the bodyguard, Goyle, didn’t make it, so, Harry’s going to take care of her now,” Hermione said with a serious tone.
“Wow…The great Harry Potter is working for me!” Ron said sarcastically. "Also, Goyle's dead? I don't know how to feel about it..." The redhead felt conflicted.
“She said, with you not for you!” Harry lightly smacked Ron’s head. “Why do you guys think Lucius is behind all this, anyway?” Asked Harry with a confused expression.
“That’s the thing, Harry, he gave such a big donation to the minister so he could get a new bodyguard for his wife, but the thing here is he was almost broke after the war and his divorce, and from what I've heard, while he was dating Susan Bones, at some point he had to live off her, so, how the heck did he regain his fortune so quickly?” Ron said with a curious expression.
Harry remained silent; he didn’t want to doubt his friend, but there were some inconsistencies.
“Is that really the truth? Don’t misunderstand me, I know he lost a lot after the divorce and the many settlements and donations he had to make to avoid Azkaban again, but…He’s old money, I lost a lot of money to save our arses because of the Gringotts heist, and yet, my descendants will probably live off that for generations,” Harry said with a thoughtful expression.
“Yeah mate, please, keep bragging in front of the least fortunate like me…I don’t want to work anymore!” Ron wanted to play Quidditch all day, not work.
“What I mean is that both the Potters and Malfoy are old money…In a nutshell, those top families like mine have a lot of money to throw away,” Harry remained in silence.
“We also suspect him because he was seen around Europe after the war, meeting some top-level criminals, some of them are avoiding justice, while others have already been captured or killed. The signs are there, Harry!” Ron told his best friend.
Harry couldn’t help but sigh. He wanted a way out of this; that’s why he was arguing against their suspicions. However, seeing Hermione’s expression quickly made him forget about his complaints.
“Well, when do I start?” Asked Harry, not so happy.
And that’s how Harry found himself in this situation with Lucius Malfoy kissing Susan Bones and Draco Malfoy looking anywhere but them.
“This woman Potter…She’s the most important person in my life besides my son…I want you to protect her with your life,” Harry could say the worst things about Lucius Malfoy.
But there was one clear thing: he was truly in love with the redhead; that was something undeniable, and he couldn’t blame him; she was a bombshell. Harry decided to remain professional and nodded at the older wizard.
“Don’t worry, Lucius, I would do anything in my power to protect her, after all, you've already paid me one year in advance for my services,” Harry said with a confident expression.
“Good, because we’re going on a date right now. Are you ready, Susan? I know you might still feel a little scared, but it’s going to be alright, love, you’re going to get over this situation, I promise you,” Lucius’ smile made her feel a little bit guilty.
She was still feeling weird things about Harry Potter; however, the way her husband was looking at her and how he wanted the best to help her get over what happened was something she appreciated.
“Yes…” She told him in a shy tone.
“Father…Susan, I’ll join you later for coffee just like we agreed. I need to take care of things with my mother,” Draco said with a calm smile.
“Yes, see you soon, Draco,” Lucius told him with a genuine smile.
“Take care, Draco,” Susan smiled at her husband's son.
“Well, we'd better get going, I have a meeting too, but I want to accompany you to the coffee shop, I want you to order our favorite cake and coffee…” Lucius started rambling, and Susan felt more at ease.
Soon, they apparated at Diagon Alley, and they reached one of the newest places built after the war. This coffee shop was exclusive; if it weren’t for the fact that he was famous, Harry would’ve never brought his last girlfriend to eat here, but he was grateful, as that got him an incredibly passionate night with her.
Lucius and Susan shared a kiss as they parted ways. The older man had a meeting, so Susan was going to take care of everything.
“Shall we enter?” She asked with a soft smile, and Harry nodded and followed her.
Soon she ordered the coffee and cake; even Harry got his own slice of German cake; however, Susan felt a bit uneasy. After seeing and smelling her coffee, she realized they brought her a coffee she didn’t like, but she was too shy to ask for a new one, so she switched it with her husband's coffee; she knew he wouldn’t complain.
“I must say I’m truly surprised you ended up marrying Lucius, Susan,” Harry couldn’t help but say with honesty.
“Yeah, it just happened. We’ve been through a lot, but right now I feel at ease, I love my life, and I wouldn’t change anything about it,” Susan said with a happy expression.
“Well, that’s certainly assuring,” Lucius joined them. It seems like he had a quick meeting; he gave Susan a quick peck before he sat with them. “Wait a minute, this is not my favorite coffee,” Lucius looked at Susan.
“I think they got your order wrong, dear,” she lied, and Lucius sighed.
“You minx…” The older man knew what she did, but he loved her too much to call her out. He wasn't too much of a fan of coffee, so he drank from Susan's mug; to say he hated the taste would be an understatement. “Listen, dear I—” Lucius couldn’t continue because his face suddenly turned purple.
The mug fell on the floor, and soon, everyone looked at the trio with curiosity.
“No…He’s been poisoned!” Susan screeched.
“Harry tried to help, but Lucius grabbed him from his shirt to tell him something.
“Protect…Susan, she’s in danger…” He said desperately.
And those were the last words Lucius Malfoy spoke before he stopped breathing forever.
