Chapter #24: A cruel prank?

Harry couldn’t believe it, his mother, the woman in the pictures, was standing in front of him, she was looking at him in a way he had never seen before, maybe this is what all sons go through when they have a mother, the look she's giving him is very different, is loving and sincere, there’s no pretending.

“Mother…Is that you?” Asked Harry, trying to remain as calm as possible.

“Yes, Harry…It’s me…I’m Lily Evans…Potter,” she said with a soft smile as she caressed one of his cheeks. “Your mother,” she added, and Harry nodded.

“Mother…You don't know how I wish this were real, but I’m sure this is nothing but a fragment of my imagination, either I’m hallucinating as I’m being moved to a hospital, or this is a place created by my mind, so I could be here for the rest of eternity,” Harry said with a serious tone.

He didn’t want to believe this was real; there was no way something like this could be possible. Lily, on the other hand, could only look at her son with pity. His life has been so awful that he does not believe he could have peace in the afterlife.

“Harry…My poor boy…I’m sorry for what they did to you…Everyone betrayed you, the order…Our so-called friends abandoned you with my hateful sister!” Lily said with an angry tone.

Harry was surprised to see her so worked up; never in his life had he imagined her to behave like this; either his mind was going insane or the A.I. behind the NPCs in this self-made universe was crazy, he was sure not even the GTA developers could achieve something like this.

“Harry…I’m sorry for everything you went through…Your father and I…We’re sorry for dying, and he’s sorry he couldn't be here to meet you, but only one of us could be present, and he knows how important a mother is for a man; he thought it would be better if you met me,” Lily said before she hugged him.

Harry was surprised by her sudden hug, and he didn’t want to hug her back, this was a cruel joke made by his mind but in the end, he couldn’t resist and hugged her back and for the first time, Harry felt a sensation he knew was missing, this hug, it was so different from any other he has been given.

Not only is there love, but there’s a warmth, and he couldn’t help but feel like wanting to stay like this for a long time, and Lily didn’t want to let go of him either, but there’s a reason she was here with him, so, they needed to talk about it.

“Well, if this is truly real and I’m dead…Shouldn’t I join the rest of you guys?” Harry wondered with a curious expression.

“Harry…Listen to me, this is real, this is the afterlife…However, you’re not dying tonight, okay?” Lily tried to make him understand.

Harry didn’t know how to feel about this, but he nodded; he wanted to trust this woman who claimed to be his mother.

“So…What am I doing here then, if I’m dying?” He asked with a curious expression. “Not that I’m complaining though…I’ve always wanted to meet you,” he confessed with a shy expression.

Suddenly, the cold and pragmatic Harry was gone, and he became again that boy who watched everyone get picked up at school by their parents, he felt weak, and somehow, he wasn’t angry about it.

“I need to tell you how we died so you can use this information in whatever way you can…” Lily’s words were cold, and even if he was some kind of spirit, he still felt chills run down his spine at the tone of her voice.

“Okay?” Harry invited her to tell him everything.

“Do you know Severus Snape, right?” She asked, and he nodded with a bitter expression.

Then she told him everything, how he came up to her to protect her and pretended to be good once again, but then, he tried to have her cheat on her husband, which only resulted in her slapping him, she loved James too much to do that, and Harry felt proud to know she did that.

“So…My childhood friend, the one I thought wanted to protect me, in reality, had hidden intentions…He wanted to take over your father’s place, but I was sure that if I accepted him into our lives, he was going to kill you at some point, I was about to expose him with the order, but then…He used the imperius curse on me and made me convince your father to take all our money from the bank…I couldn’t fight him, and so, I died while being under his influence,” she said regretfully, it’s clear she was blaming herself.

“Mum…Don’t do that, it wasn’t your fault, it was Snape, he was evil for doing that, he’s the culprit, not you, okay?” Harry tried to make her understand.

She sobbed a little and nodded; she was so happy to see that he had become such a great man even without them in his life.

“Remember when it told you that I thought he was going to kill you at some point?” She asked, and he nodded. “He tried to kill you a few moments ago, he was the one who shot you, Harry…I followed the person who did it, and I saw everything, how Dumbledore used his secret to manipulate him to kill you!” Lily’s words shocked Harry.

“I’m going to kill them both!” Harry declared angrily.

“Wait, Harry…You can’t do that yet!” Lily stopped him.

“Why?” He was shocked she would want him to spare those bastards.

Knowing how they were betrayed, he was convinced she would be the first to want both of them dead, he still couldn’t believe that Dumbledore found a way around the magical vow.

“Because there are stronger forces behind them, Harry…It seems like there’s a secret government watching over Dumbledore, he serves those people, but only he knows about them because only the chief warlock is allowed to meet them, they control everything behind the scenes, Harry…If you want to break the statute of secrecy, you need to find them and destroy them, and to achieve that…You sadly need Dumbledore,” Lily told him with a sad expression.

Harry was so pissed off right now, he wanted to go and kill that old wizard; he couldn’t believe he was so naïve to believe that Dumbledore would be on his side, he felt cheated, so, Lily suddenly decided to hug him.

“Trust me, there’s nothing I would love more than you killing Snape…That trash has a place awaiting him in hell, don’t worry about him, but sadly, if you kill him, Dumbledore and the rest of the secret government will know you did it, and they’ll know why you did it, so, it’s going to get harder for you to get them!” Lily’s words were logical.

Harry couldn’t help but sigh, he nodded at his mother, but he was being more polite rather than genuinely happy, still, there was nothing he could do, but then, he saw that he was starting to disappear.

“Well, I guess it’s time for you to go…You know that your father and I are proud of you, right? We’re always watching you,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“I don't want to go…I want to stay!” Harry begged as he disappeared.

Lily could only sadly smile at the sight; he still had a long life left; he needed to go back, but that didn’t make things easy for her.
