Chapter #7: Apocalyptic thoughts.
“What do you want, Susan? What is it you wish to do?” Asked Harry with a serious expression.
The redhead couldn’t help but analyze her answer. She didn’t want to act boldly, after all, she’s a very collected person, she rarely snaps or gets angry, and one thing people have always criticized about her is the fact that she’s too nice.
But right now, she felt an incredible anger at the world for taking everything she loves. She’s frustrated and furious; she wants to make the world pay for the pain that she has been put through, but on the other hand, she’s not like that.
She doesn’t want to get consumed by violence; that’s not the way her aunt raised her. That woman sacrificed everything for her, and she always told her to never become a vindictive person. She was told to seek justice when an injustice happens, but she warned her to never seek vengeance, as that could consume her and lead to her downfall.
“My downfall? Oh aunty…I think I’m past behind that,” the redhead said with a bitter smile.
“What is that, Susan?” Asked Harry with an interested expression.
The redhead remained in silence for a few moments, but in the end, she nodded. If he was going to be by her side and if he truly was going to help her in any way she needed to fulfill her vengeance, then she needed to at least be honest with the savior of the world.
“When I was young…I met Draco Malfoy…It was a ministry gala, and he said mean things about my aunt. I felt so angry, I wanted to hurt him, I wanted him gone, and I was going to do something stupid like punching him, however…My aunty stopped me,” she declared, and Harry nodded.
He was sensing where this was going, but he wasn’t going to interrupt her.
“She told me vengeance wasn’t worth it because that’s what bad people want…They want to break us, to change who we are because they were too weak for succumbing to power, so I’ve always tried to follow her example…Trust me, I want to find who killed Lucius and make them pay, but…Because of my aunt’s teachings…I feel conflicted right now,” the redhead sighed.
Harry remained thoughtful for a while.
“I have nothing left, Harry…I distanced myself from Hannah, I lost my aunt and my husband, Draco is a good person and the fact that he changed so much proved my aunt’s philosophy right because had I done something to him in the ministry gala, things wouldn’t be like this right now between us and yet, despite our good relationship, his father, the person that held us together is gone, right now he’s taking care of the duties of the manor but Lucius left me this place…He’ll be gone soon, too,” she said with a sad tone.
Harry couldn’t help but feel pity towards her.
“I don’t want to lose what’s left of myself, Harry…It seems like destiny wants me alone in this old manor, so, if that’s my destiny, then…I accept it,” she said as she wiped a small tear.
It broke Harry to see her like that, but things weren’t as easy as she thought. However, if she planned to be alone, then he could set a fidelius charm so she could safely hide forever, but only if she truly meant to do that.
“Yes…All of us have been told that vengeance is bad, so, if you truly want to hide forever, I can cast the fidelius charm and hide you forever, but…Tell me what you really want, Susan. I want you to be honest,” Harry was almost demanding.
However, they couldn’t afford to lose time, so, she needed to make up her mind at once. Susan then stared at his eyes with tears in her eyes; she couldn’t contain herself anymore.
“I want to catch the person who did it…I want to kill them with my own hands, I’m tired of being weak and helpless…Tell me, Harry, does that make me a bad person?” She asked as the sobbing became more intense.
“It makes you human,” Harry simply said with a calm expression.
He got close to her and soon wiped some of the tears from her eyes.
“It’s normal to want to get rid of those who are a threat to us. We have a survival instinct, and this person who killed your husband, sadly, is coming after you, and you know it, Susan. If you feel like you don’t have the strength to do it…I can do it for you, just give me the order and I'll search for them, after all, I was paid by your husband to obey your orders,” Harry offered his services to the redhead.
She remained silent for a while, and then she reached a conclusion.
“No, Harry…I don’t want you to kill that person,” she declared, and Harry was surprised by her response. “I want you to help me find that person…I want to kill them myself!” She finally got on her feet.
She moved slowly towards the dark-haired wizard; she was still wearing a white nightgown that showed a bit of her skin, but Harry was too focused on her attitude to look at her attributes.
“Lady Malfoy?” Harry questioned her the moment she cupped his face.
Then she did something unexpected, she kissed him softly, she didn’t know why she was doing this so soon after losing her husband, but she needed to kiss him, and then she experienced something different, this was different from Ernie’s kisses and more intense than Lucius’ kisses.
She couldn’t explain why she was feeling like this, but she wasn’t able to stop herself, and soon, the kiss became more heated because Harry decided to kiss her back. The redhead was moaning through the kiss, but then, the need for air became too evident, so they finally separated.
“Lady Malfoy, what was that?” Harry asked with a surprised expression. “Not that I’m complaining, though,” he added with a smirk.
“Stop with that Lady Malfoy nonsense…That's the title of Draco’s future wife, I’m Susan…Susan Amelia Bones, is that clear?” She asked with a smirk.
Harry smirked.
“Very well, Susan, I was getting tired of calling you Lady Malfoy…So, what’s the plan now?” He asked with a smirk.
“First of all…I’d like to apologize for the kiss. I don’t know what came over me, but…I shouldn’t have done that,” she said with a regretful expression.
“Hey, you’re grieving and you wanted comfort, so I don’t blame you, I don’t hold something against you for doing it,” he gave her a soft smile.
She nodded with a relieved expression.
“Thank you, I’m glad you’re not angry because if we truly want to find the people who killed my husband…We need to work together; the last thing we need is for things to be awkward between us,” she told him with a serious expression.
“I agree…So, I guess we should get to work…Do you have any suspects in mind?” Asked the dark-haired wizard with a curious expression.
“None, but…I think we should ask the former minister some questions, after all, he and Lucius had a fight a few weeks ago…” Susan suggested as she caressed her chin.
“Fudge?” Harry was surprised; he hadn’t heard that name in a long time, and she nodded.
He had no hope about Fudge being the one responsible for Lucius’ death; he was a coward and had nothing to gain from Lucius' death, but they didn’t have too many leads, so, at least it was a start.
