Chapter #29: Secret projects.
Harry Potter couldn’t believe he was experiencing something taken out of a science fiction movie or book; he was flying in the air with a jetpack, which was just like in GTA San Andreas.
“I can’t believe this is real!” Harry screamed.
However, the difference was that it wasn’t as fast as one would like it to be, but in any case, the experience was all worth it just for fun, after all, he has his broom, and even the cheapest broom in the magical world could outrun any plane invented by muggles; that’s something he couldn’t deny.
Soon, he was back on floor level, and he was greeted by Penny, the minister, and some guys dressed in black suits. They were bald and had serious expressions. He felt a little uneasy around them, but in the end, he managed to regain his composure.
“Oh, hello,” Harry said to the new men.
“Uh, these people wanted to meet you, Harry,” Penelope told him with a slight smirk.
The men looked at him from all angles, and one of them started taking some notes.
“So, this is the wizard…It seems like the project has gone as expected,” the other one said.
“He doesn’t look different from other humans,” the one who was writing said, and Harry smirked.
That’s what he liked the most about himself: the fact that he could pass for a regular guy, which eased his worries about his possible enemies finding out about his real self.
“Well, I’m sorry for disappointing you guys, but that’s true, I’m just a regular guy,” Harry said with a calm expression. “And what do you mean by project?” Asked Harry with a curious expression.
“Well, now that you’ve met us, there’s no point in hiding our true identities…We’re not from this world, Mr. Potter, we come from a distant planet, and people like you, the ones who call themselves "magical", are just the result of experiments we’ve made thousands of years ago,” one of them said with a serious tone.
If any other person could’ve told him those words, he would’ve laughed in their faces; however, there was something otherworldly about them, something that unnerved him.
“I see…Well, I think I should show you what I can do with the powers your experiment gave me,” Harry smirked and soon took his wand out.
He managed to generate a light and lifted a few things that looked too heavy; even the aliens were impressed because if any other person had wanted to do that, they would have needed some heavy machinery.
“Incredible…All this defies the laws of physics from this world,” the one writing notes said with the same stoic expression.
“Yes, this is the most amazing thing about magic: it doesn’t obey the laws of the universe.” Harry was proud of his heritage.
“Actually, it’s a principle that obeys very complex laws of the universe, laws that humans have no understanding of yet, at the peace humanity is going, it will take them at least a couple of centuries before they reach that knowledge, don’t feel bad, it took our civilization millions of years, but here we are, traveling across the universe to find planets like yours,” the one without a notebook told him with a slight smirk.
This was interesting. Harry never thought he would see the day an alien would smile at him.
“So…If you’re from another planet, why do you look like normal humans?” Asked Harry with a calm expression.
“We use a serum to change our form, it’s injected, it’s made with the same materials as—” One of them was stopped by Penelope.
“Polyjuice potion?” She asked with a smirk.
“Yes, that’s what you wizards call it, most of the magical plants and magical beasts in your world are actually native to our lands, that’s why they look magical for the people of this world, trust me, we felt the same when we encountered dogs for the first time…We don’t have such creatures in our world,” one of them told him.
“As you can see, Harry, in this place we develop technology with the help of our friends from other planets, and we’re just waiting for the moment when we can finally work with magic, which, of course, depends on you or anyone else trying to bring down the statute of secrecy,” the minister told him with a slight smile.
“Gatekeeping is nonsense if you ask me. We planted the seed so that at some point all humans would reach the same level of consciousness as that we have; that’s why we gave what you guys call magic, it's for progress, not to gatekeep it,” the alien with a notebook told him.
This meeting made Harry reconsider a lot of things. He’s been so self-absorbed in his own greatness that he forgot about the possibility of beings more powerful than them; of course, it makes sense why many ancient cultures have tales and legends about people that come from the stars.
It’s also curious to note that many of those cultures were the first to show the capabilities of magic with their rituals. Hermione’s not going to believe what he saw today.
“Minister, alien dudes, Penelope, I swear to you that I’m going to bring the statute down!” Harry declared with a confident expression.
Everyone looked at him with interest. It seems like things are going to take an unexpected turn, and to think that such a change would be made by the one who used to be nothing but a background character in which the hero and main character was Neville Longbottom, may his soul rest in peace if he’s watching him right now.
A few hours later, Harry was back at Hogwarts. He couldn’t believe he had so much fun, and most importantly, he managed to get a date with Penny. Things are about to get more interesting between them. Harry was walking through the corridors. It was time for dinner, and he was hungry.
Luckily, adult students were allowed to go out during the weekends, and considering his position in this world, if he wanted to reach his dream, he needed to go out and talk to a lot of people.
He was so immersed in his thoughts that he didn’t see the woman running towards him until he fell, and then he heard the sound of many books hitting the floor.
“What the…Watch where you’re going, you—” He was about to snap at the person who made him fall.
But his eyes widened at sight, it was a woman, probably one of the most beautiful in the school, she had a cool yet gentle expression, and he knew who she was.
“Greengrass!” Harry said with a shocked expression.
Then he ran and helped her pick up her books.
“Sorry, Potter, I needed these books for tomorrow’s defense project,” she said with a weak smile.
“It’s alright, it's also kind of my fault,” he laughed nervously. “Let me help you with your books,” he said, not even waiting for her to say something else.
He just lifted the books with his wand. Daphne couldn’t help but smirk at the sight, for some reason, Harry was liking the way she was looking at him.
“Well, I never say no to a gentleman offering his help!” The blonde said cheerfully.
Soon, they were on the way to the great hall. It was awkward at first, but they even managed to start a conversation to get to know each other better on their way to the great hall.
