Chapter #10: New plans.
Susan didn’t know how to feel about the meeting with Fudge, they were back at the cabin in the woods, and she didn’t know how to process what she just learned, in one hand, they probably managed to find a lead in her husband’s death but on the other hand, to know that he was cheating on her wasn’t something that made her happy.
“I’m sorry, Susan, no one deserves to be cheated on…Trust me, I know that very well,” Harry said with a sad tone.
She was curious about what he meant by that; however, she decided not to ask for now, and in the end, just nodded.
“It’s weird, you know? I still love him, but I want to hate him, and at the same time, doing any of those things doesn’t make sense because he’s already dead, he can’t hear me, so, no matter how much I complain or cry, he’s never going to hear me,” she sighed, defeated.
Harry remained silent for a while, and then he took a seat beside her. She looked at him with a curious expression.
“Your feelings are valid, Susan. If you want to hate him for what he did, it’s not a bad thing to do it. What he did was wrong, and just because he’s dead, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t acknowledge your emotions,” he told the redhead with a gentle tone that made her tear.
Soon she was sobbing hard; it was like the floodgates of her emotions were shattered. Harry clearly was not so experienced when it comes to comforting women, so, in the end, he just sat beside her and patted her back as the sobs became louder. It took her a few minutes, but she managed to calm down, eventually.
“Thank you for that, Harry. I’m sorry for using you as my emotional support,” she laughed with tears in her eyes.
“It’s alright, I’m here for you, I'll do almost anything you want, that’s why your husband hired me, but also…I want to be of help, I can't just let you suffer by yourself,” he confessed with a calm expression.
She smiled and nodded, then she closed her eyes and fell asleep while she was still in Harry’s arms. The dark-haired wizard didn’t know how to feel about this, and he had nothing else to say, so he just let her be, but meanwhile, he was already planning their next move.
A few hours later, Susan woke up in Harry’s arms, she was surprised to see herself in this position, however, for some reason she wasn’t complaining, still, she decided to get off him due to the embarrassment she was feeling, when she looked at a window she realized that the sun was already shining, either she slept for too long or they arrived late, in any case, she decided to clean herself and take shower, after last night events, she was aching for a long shower after spending lots of time with Fudge.
When she came downstairs, she was surprised to find Harry serving food. It was the typical English breakfast, and she was drooling. Harry smiled at her once he sensed her presence.
“Hey, Susan,” he said with a calm tone. “Did you have a good night's sleep?” He asked, clearly interested in her life.
“Yeah, after the recent events and after spending a lot of time with Fudge, I needed that, thank you for being there, Harry,” she said with her cheeks flushed.
Harry suddenly realized what she meant, and he nodded, but he was also trying to avoid her gaze.
“Don’t worry about it, that’s why I’m here, so don't be afraid to rely on me,“ he scratched his head as he said this. “Come on, eat something, it’s been hours since your last proper meal,” he said calmly, but he wasn’t looking at her as he spoke.
Soon they had their breakfast, Harry was enjoying his coffee and Susan had her cocoa, and when they finally finished eating, it was time to have an important conversation.
“So, what are the plans for the day?” She asked, clearly interested in continuing with the investigation.
“Well, I was thinking of you and me visiting Neville and Hannah,” Harry told her with a soft smile.
Susan felt a little surprised to hear those words.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea? I mean, Hannah and I don’t get along anymore after I got married to Lucius for some reason…” The redhead wondered, and Harry smiled.
He could've named all the horrible things Lucius Malfoy did and how difficult it is to forgive someone like that; however, he was dead and couldn’t defend himself, so it was better to let the old man rest.
“I don’t think she hates you,” Harry’s words surprised Susan.
“What do you mean?” Now she was completely curious.
“Well, the thing is that before becoming your bodyguard, I had to do some research about you, so I visited Hannah and Neville. It seems like she’s sad because you two are not that close anymore,” Harry said with a weak smile.
Susan was shocked to hear that. Hannah was a person who rarely acted on her emotions, and yet, she was now hearing that she was sad, the world has truly gone insane, well, maybe ever since she married Lucius, the world started to lose its plot.
“I think it’s a good time to heal and reconnect with those you drifted apart from. Tell me something, Susan, what do you think about Ernie Macmillan?” Harry questioned with a raised brow.
The redhead suddenly blushed and couldn’t help but stammer.
“Uh…Nothing…He’s just…Ah, fine, he’s my ex,” she said before groaning.
“Well, I’m asking this because, according to Draco, he could be the potential mastermind behind your husband's death. It wouldn’t be the last time a man gets jealous to the point he kills his ex's current partner, or at least it’s not unusual in this world,” Harry scratched his head as he thought about the examples in his head.
Susan remained silent for a moment before she sighed.
“Well, he isn't wrong. We didn’t end in the best terms, indeed, but…He wasn’t a psychopath who could orchestrate something like this…He’s not smart enough to do it, trust me, I know that better than anyone,” she told Harry with a straight face.
Harry was having difficulties not laughing like crazy at the words he was hearing. Clearly, Susan had a sassy side, but she was also right.
“I don’t doubt that you know him very well; however, let’s be honest, most people hide who they really are, so why don’t you stay with Hannah and Neville for now while I investigate your not-so-smart ex-boyfriend?” He asked with a knowing look.
She tried to suppress her smile, but in the end, she couldn’t hold it in for too long.
“Alright, that sounds like a plan,” she finally agreed, and Harry smiled before he placed one of his hands on her own.
“You should go get dressed, and then I’ll take you with them, trust me, Neville is going to protect you, if there’s someone, I trust my life with, it's Neville!” Harry declared with a cheerful expression.
She nodded and got ready to get dressed so she could visit her best friend, whom she hadn’t seen for some time. She was nervous but excited at the same time.
“Shall we get going?” She asked as she came out of her room, looking more casual.
Harry nodded at her, and soon, they apparated away from this place. Now they were outside the leaky cauldron.
