Chapter #13: A not so smooth criminal.

Harry and Daphne were on the outskirts of Diagon Alley, which is where shady and low-income people lived, and after looking for a few minutes, they finally found the house they were looking for.

After speaking with Candy, they got all the information they needed about the suspected wizard who killed Lucius. His name was Will, and he was someone Harry couldn't help but feel sorry for. Apparently, just like Harry, he lost his parents when he was young, which really put things in perspective for the emerald-eyed wizard; if it weren't for magic, he would've shared the same criminal fate.

“Is this the place?” Susan asked with a worried expression.

“Yes…This is,” Harry raised his wand.

Susan did the same thing and nodded at him. The place was really depressing, not only because it was part of the marginal area but this place is known to be the place where criminals and other thugs usually hide, after the war, many former death eaters were found hiding in this place, so, they needed to be careful, there could still be someone out there who would want seek revenge for what Harry did to their master.

“666, this is the house,” Harry said as he looked at the door with that number.

Susan nodded, they got their hands ready and soon, they opened the door as silently as possible, they were expecting traps and a lot of dangerous things, but they were surprised to see that the house looked clean inside, in fact, it looked more like a mansion rather than the way it looked from the outside, the place had some random red paint though, one would’ve expected to see this place painted completely in white.

“Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, I guess in this area it's better to pretend you’re one of them than to stand out,” Susan said in a serious tone, and Harry nodded.

“Let’s not put our guards down, let’s keep going,” Harry encouraged her.

Soon, they started to explore the place. There were many rooms, so finding that man was going to be quite the challenge, especially considering that they’re in his domains. He was sure there were many traps in here; however, the more rooms they explored, the more they couldn’t help but see that nothing was happening.

“There’s something very wrong about this,” Harry said in a low tone.

“What do you mean, Harry?” Susan asked with a curious expression.

“No traps have been activated since we entered. There are no house elves, no creatures, nothing. It's like no one has ever lived in this place, and considering everything Candy has told us about how often she visited this place, I was expecting more,” Harry couldn’t help but sigh.

“Do you think she lied to protect her beloved?” Susan asked with a smile.

She didn’t want to judge the young woman for dating someone older, after all, she willingly married an older wizard, but this man seemed to have no future; he only cared about his own pleasure, and what he could get. Hell, he was the one making her work in that place while he was going drinking with his friends.

“Let’s take a break,” Harry said with a tired tone.

The redhead agreed and soon, they were sitting on the living room, their wands were still ready in case of an attack but it was clear that the place was empty, and because there were no threats, there was just one choice, to wait for that man to appear or forget about it but considering they’ve come this far, there was no way they were going to go back.

“This place, it would look better without that random red paint," Harry couldn’t help but comment.

Susan chuckled but then, she stared at a painting in the wall, it was the painting of a naked woman and she was winking at the viewers, however, that’s not the reason she was staring in that direction, soon, she walked towards the painting and decided to remove it, and then, her eyes opened wide, there was a white square where the painting should’ve been.

“Harry…Look!” Susan urged him.

Harry looked where she was pointing, and he wasn’t seeing anything weird until he took a closer look.

“Red paint…” Harry looked at it, and then he got an idea.

With his wand, he removed a little of the red paint and used a material testing charm, invented by Hermione, of course, and then his eyes widened.

“Blood!” He said with a shocked tone.

Susan looked at him with a perplexed expression.

“This is not paint, this is blood!” Harry said with a shocked tone.

“So, this means that…This could be that man's blood?” Susan was worried now.

“Yes, I do not doubt it, I think we need to leave this place as soon as possible—” Harry couldn’t continue because suddenly, the place was invaded.

Many wizards with uniforms that Harry recognized were now in the room; there were at least ten.

“Auror department, put your wands down, you’re under arrest for the murder of Will Smithson and Lucius Malfoy's murder!” One of the Aurors ordered.

“You have the right to remain silent, everything you say could and will be used against you in a court…” Another one started to read their rights.

Susan couldn’t believe what she was hearing; she was being accused of planning her husband’s death. This didn’t make any sense.

“Harry, they—” Susan was stopped by Harry, who placed a finger on his lips, a sign for her not to say anything else. Meanwhile, Harry was caressing a coin in his pocket.

“Just do as they’re telling you, Susan,” Harry surrendered his wand.

Susan was on the verge of tears, but she did the same thing, and soon, they were handcuffed. However, once they were outside, there was already another group of people, and Harry couldn’t help but smirk; it was the minister and, alongside him, Hermione Granger.

“Minister, what are you doing here?” Wilkerson, the head Auror, wasn’t happy to see the minister.

They used to be colleagues, but they never got along. The man was still bitter because his hated rival was now the minister.

“I came here to pick someone you’ve wrongly arrested…Harry Potter,” Kingsley said with a serious tone.

He was smirking while Hermione was sighing, but the minister wasn’t amused, though. After hearing that name, many Aurors started to chat amongst themselves. Wrongly arresting someone like Harry could be dangerous, as the general public won’t be happy with their actions towards the latest national hero; however, if he committed a crime, hero or not, he needed to prove his innocence.

“I can’t, he’s accused of—” Wilkerson tried to say, but the minister stopped him.

“I know what you’re accusing him of, the conspiracy doesn’t make sense because the supposed planning of the murder happened while he was working for me…I knew Amelia, too, so I doubt Miss Bones is involved, but the only one I could bet my life on to prove their innocence is Harry, because he was working for me the hour and day she was seen with the mysterious man,” the minister’s words surprised Harry.

Then, to make things clear, the minister gave the man a record that showed that Harry wasn’t even in the country when the supposed conspiracy was taking place.

“Fine…But we’re still taking Bones, some important witnesses say she planned the murder, and we have evidence of her involvement,” those words made the redhead sob.

“I’m going to get you out, Susan, I swear it on my life!” Harry promised.

She couldn’t help but nod with tears in her eyes.
