Chapter #29: The order of the phoenix.
James and the rest of his companions took Harry to a private room. Another person had also joined them; it was Fleur Delacour who was smiling at him. He knew what this was all about; still, he needed to remain calm, and his thoughts needed to remain mundane. The last thing he wants is to reveal everything he knows and everything he was planning to do.
He was told that by the time of their deaths, his parents were really powerful, magical people. He always wondered how strong they would’ve been hadn’t they been killed. Sadly, he was about to find the answer to that question in the worst way possible, in an interview where they would see him as a possible enemy.
“So… What do you guys want to talk about with me? And why?” Harry acted confused.
It really didn’t make any sense. He was a below-average student who proved to be good at Quidditch. No one would suspect that such a person would become a dark wizard. He wanted to read their thoughts; however, he decided not to do it because if his legilimency went wrong, they would know what he’s capable of, and it would ruin everything.
“The name’s Harry, by the way, Harry Dursley,” he said in a happy tone.
He saw a small glimpse of shock after hearing that name, even though they were the ones who made him take that name; it seems like they were still surprised to hear him call himself that.
Could they be feeling regret? Could they be feeling guilt? Or maybe it was just shock? Regardless of how they felt, that was his official name; he knew he was a Potter, heck, it hadn’t been too long since he had lived as a Potter for more than thirty fucking years, he was still bitter for being sent to this universe, his time as a warrior was done, he didn’t want to fight against Voldemort again.
“I’m James Potter, and this is my wife Lily, my friends Sirius, Remus, and Fleur,” James introduced the Marauders and the French witch.
It was weird to see Sirius behave like this, he was the person he missed the most, he hated to admit that he missed him more than his parents because he actually got to know the man, the few memories he had of his parents were filled with nothing but pain, and even though Sirius didn’t have a happy ending, there were still happy moments between them. Lily and the Marauders smiled at him, and Harry did the same.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Harry said with complete sincerity.
“Boy, what you did back there in the air was awesome!” Sirius said with a grin.
“Risky and extreme but effective, I must say,” Remus said as he caressed his chin.
“I think that’s the best way to define myself, risky but effective,” Harry smirked as he said this. “So, you guys were saying something about a defense organization or something?” He asked with a raised brow.
James shared a look with his friends and wife and clarified his voice.
“Oh, right, yes, that’s why we wanted to talk to you… Like I said, there’s this secret organization that we have, it’s a defense group,” James started with a calm tone.
“Defense? What for? We live in times of peace thanks to the savior of the world, the great Henry Potter,” Harry said with a neutral tone.
However, they could swear that there was a hint of sarcasm in his voice; they were aware of the rocky relationship between the unknown brothers, and to be honest, considering everything Henry has done to Harry, his disdain towards his older twin brother made sense.
“That’s what everyone thought, but as you know… His followers tried to resurrect him at the end of the Triwizard tournament. They kidnapped Henry, and he confirmed that Voldemort is, in fact, alive; he wasn’t killed, but his body was destroyed. Luckily, the ritual went wrong, but right now we can prove to the world that he's out there, as no one would believe us,” Lily spoke this time.
“Wow, sounds really dangerous. I don’t think you should add someone like me to your organization. I’m really weak, I’m only decent at defense against the dark arts,” Harry tried to look as surprised as possible. “Snape is an asshole, but you can trust him to give a decent resume of me as a student,” he added calmly.
Sirius and James were trying hard not to laugh at Snape being called an asshole. Which is true because even if he did a lot of sacrifices back in his universe, he was still an asshole in the end. He didn’t have to act like that towards him; Harry didn’t need to worship him. Just leaving him alone was more than enough decent behavior for Harry.
But no, the man was bitter enough to release his frustrations on him; his father truly did a number on him by marrying Lily. However, after seeing how she, Snape, and the rest of the Marauders were amicably chatting back during the match, it seems like all of them got over it.
“Decent? Not everyone reaches the advanced defense classes, we were told that you were more than good at that subject,” Remus said with a smirk.
Harry couldn’t help but smile. Of course, Remus, who was the best of the Marauders and even better than Lily when it came to defense, would be interested in his abilities. Hell, if it weren’t for him, he wouldn’t be as good as he was in the subject.
“Also, a friend told us about the duel you had with the Malfoy brat. We saw the memory; it was really impressive how you used emotional manipulation and dirty tricks to defeat him. I like that,” James said, and Harry could swear there was a hint of pride in his voice.
“That’s the kind of attitude we’re looking for, we don’t want people who don’t think for themselves, we don’t want those who are too stuck on the rules, that’s why people like Hermione haven’t been invited to formally join the defense forces,” Lily spoke this time.
Well, now it makes sense why they gave Hermione a spying mission; they were testing her, and she was failing because she was doing everything by the rules, she hadn’t tried to get into his pants to get information or use dirty tricks.
“Look… I feel flattered by your words, but I can assure you that whatever idea you have about me, it’s just superficial; I’m just a regular wizard… I’m just... Harry, and there’s not much for me in this life,” he said as he got up, ready to leave.
However, Lily decided to grab his hand, and he was forced to look at her. She had a calm but warm expression, and he couldn’t help but gulp.
“Mrs. Potter?” Harry asked as he got out of confusion.
“Please, think about our offer… We’re not asking you to do this for free… You’re going to get paid; you can have a life if you use your powers to protect others,” she said with a concerned expression.
Harry remained silent for a few moments. He didn’t know how to feel about this whole situation. In the end, he didn’t answer; he just looked at them for the last time and finally got out of the room. This conversation was interesting, to say the least.
