Chapter #10: Reflections.
Bellatrix was tired. There was a new case, a serial killer who was killing werewolves. The problem here is that those werewolves weren’t criminals, just people trying to survive. The political implications of this are going to be a mess; they’re pressured by the ministry to solve this case as soon as possible.
If the werewolf population doesn’t feel safe, then there’s no need for them to behave; they can unleash their force and act guided by their instincts, something that sounded and was terrible. She arrived at the place she shared with Harry after an intense meeting with the head of the department and the minister, and she was surprised by the nice smell.
When she opened the door of the kitchen, she was surprised to see an interesting sight: Harry Potter, the man she had to marry, was taking something out of the oven, and it smelled incredible. He was singing a Muggle song, and then he smiled when he noticed that Bellatrix was back.
His shift ended hours ago, but she had to stay because of the press and because she had a meeting with the minister and all the other intelligence agencies. This case was a top priority, or else they would face a lawsuit from the Magical Creatures Protection Commission, an organization ironically backed up by the Potters and other families.
“Oh, hey, I didn’t hear you arrive,” Harry said with a smirk. “You’re just in time, the lasagna is ready,” he said as he started to cut the dish. “Mrs. Weasley taught me how to make it; she’s a master when it comes to kitchen stuff,” Harry said with a smile.
It took Bellatrix some time to register what was going on. The man she married knew how to cook, and the most impressive thing was that it smelled and looked delicious.
“Wash your hands, I’ll fetch you a plate, and you love wine, right?” He asked with a curious tone.
She decided to get back to reality. She was starving, there was no time for her to act so shocked, especially since the day had shown her that her husband was more than a capable Auror and more than a capable cook.
“Yes… I love wine,” she said in a weak tone.
Harry smiled, and soon, he grabbed a couple of glasses and plates and started to serve lasagna. She was salivating right now. He then took her to the living room, Harry specifically asked for the house to be able to hold both Muggle and magical artifacts.
So, they had internet, computers, television, and all those kinds of things that muggles love that she never paid attention to, purebloods don’t usually get involved with that side of humanity and some of them don't even consider muggles human at all, it was the year 2026, and because Harry was raised as both muggle and magical there were some things that he missed from the muggle world like videogames and computers.
“Do you know what a television does, Bellatrix?” Harry asked as he brought the wine bottle from the kitchen.
“No… I have no idea,” she confessed as she stared at the lasagna as if it were her last meal.
Harry turned on the TV, and she was surprised to see people on it. Harry quickly explained that it was a show and what it was all about; it was like a play, but you don’t have to be in the theater to watch it, the play goes to where you live.
“Let me put something that I think you would love,” Harry opened a stream service. “This is a fantasy series, it’s called Game of Thrones, I think it’s good,” Harry said and soon started from the first episode.
Even though he had already watched the series, he thought it would be interesting to see Bellatrix’s reaction to that show. Soon, they were in a comfortable silence. She was more focused on the food than anything else; however, once her body started to gain more energy, she started to watch the TV show.
She was bored at first because the TV show didn’t look out of the norm for Muggle standards; that’s the way she used to think Muggles actually lived, still stuck in the Middle Ages. However, as time passed by, she became more and more interested in the plot.
The characters were starting to catch her attention, the little guy, Tyrion was his name, it became her favorite character, she hated Joffrey and she was waiting for a wizard or a magical creature to kill him but that never happened, as they kept watching, Harry and Bellatrix kept eating from his cooking, in the end, they were completely stuffed as the first episode ended.
“Wow… I can’t believe those two would do that… So, that’s how it ends?” She asked as the outro song played.
“No, there’s like sixty episodes more like this one,” he explained, and she was shocked.
“What the… And each one is like an hour long, too?” She asked, still surprised.
Harry nodded with a smile.
“Maybe I’ve been underestimating the muggles… That was a really interesting watch,” she couldn’t help but admit, and Harry smiled.
“Yes, they’re really creative. Imagine if both worlds were one, the things we would make together with magic and their creativity would be awesome, sadly, that’s never going to happen,” said Harry, disappointed.
“I wish I could watch more, but… I don’t really have too much free time,” she said, sighing.
“It was a rough day, right?” He asked with a serious tone, and then turned off the TV.
“That’s an understatement. If the killings keep going, we’re risking the uprising of a werewolf civil war,” she sighed as she massaged her temples.
Harry then did something she wasn’t expecting: he took her hand.
“I know you’re going to solve this case, Bella. There’s no better person suited for the job,” Harry told her with the most convincing expression she had ever seen.
She doesn’t know where that came from, but somehow, it made her feel good to know that he had such trust in her.
“And I’m going to be there to support you, either as a husband or as an employee. I’ll do my best to help you solve this case, not only because I want you to succeed but because I want to bring that bastard to justice,” he declared with a serious expression.
He couldn’t help but think of Remus, a family friend. Werewolves were very misunderstood people; the few bad apples that let themselves be seduced by the violence that comes from the full moon and don’t take the wolfsbane potion, those are the ones that ruin the reputation for the rest of them.
“I’m not sure you should keep working in the forces, Harry,” she said, surprising him.
“What? Why? I think I’m doing a great job,” he said with a shocked expression.
“Because it’s people like you, the ones who die first, the people who think can change the world are the first ones to fall, and even though this is an arranged marriage, that’s something I don’t want for you,” she declared with a worried tone.
Then he did something she didn’t expect: he hugged her.
“Oh, Bella, you’re worried about me… You don’t know how happy that makes me feel, however… I want to be there with you, I don’t want to leave you alone,” he declared.
Somehow, that made her heart feel warm.
