Chapter #30: A pretty flower.
Harry was truly taken aback by the meeting, not because of the encounter but because of how well he handled it. These people, his parents and his friends, were extraordinary; they were so strong that just one of them made you feel so small, and yet, he was able to handle all of them at the same time.
“It seems like the war and my time in the Auror forces truly changed me for the worse, although in this case, it was for the better,” Harry couldn’t help but admit to himself as he was planning to get back to the Gryffindor common room; however, destiny had other plans for the dark-haired wizard.
“Harry!” It was a known voice with a French accent.
He knew who she was because she was at the meeting; he was wondering if she was sent by his parents to try to persuade him more intimately.
“Miss Delacour,” Harry said with a soft smile.
Then he took a glance at her memories, it seems like she was a new member, apparently, Sirius introduced her to the order, he was trying to date the French witch, but she had no interest at all in the womanizer wizard, and in this timeline, it seems like she neither had interest in Bill either even though they both worked at Gringotts.
“Hi,” she said with a smile.
“Hi,” Harry said with a confused expression.
It made sense. Harry was irrelevant when she visited the castle because of the Triwizard tournament; he was nothing but a background character, a life he had always yearned for in his original universe.
“I don’t want to offend you, Miss Delacour—” he was cut off by her.
“Please stop with the Miss thing, call me Fleur, I’m supposed to be the older one, not you,” she giggled.
Harry couldn’t help but smile, it seems like she was still the same bright woman from his universe, he never understood why Hermione and Ginny were so bitter towards her at the start, Hermione spoke French for fuck’s sake, that was something they could use to bond and even though Hermione was no snob, she usually took trips around the continent during the summer, so, she wasn’t the lower class girl she was trying to portray herself to be.
“Very well, Fleur… Is there something I can help you with?” He asked with an arched brow.
She stared at him with a blank expression, then she caressed her chin.
“You don’t remember me, right?” She asked, a bit shocked.
“Well, of course I remember you from the Triwizard tournament, you were the French champion and—” Harry was stopped as she raised her hand.
“You told me to fuck off once, remember?” She said with an amused expression.
Harry was confused by what she was talking about and then, the memories came back, it was the fourth year, it was around the time when people were asking for dates to attend the yule ball, of course, his version of this universe was too bitter, he was in his cynical phase, it seems like he watched too much MTV during the summer, grunge was at its peak back then.
He was walking in the hallways when he saw the pathetic scene of Ron Weasley asking the French witch to go to the Yule Ball with him, which, of course, she rejected without hesitation. Harry couldn’t blame her; she rejected him politely, but after that, she and her friends were laughing at Ron.
Harry didn’t give a fuck about the redhead, but he was in the wrong place to stand with a lost look because the French witch thought that, because he was looking at her, he wanted to ask her to the Yule Ball.
“Oh, not this shit again… When are you guys going to understand that I’m not interested in you!” She said annoyed.
And that annoyed Harry further.
“Fuck off!” He just said and stormed past her, his shoulder even clashed with the books she was carrying.
Harry was too angry with the world to care that most people were watching with surprise because they had never seen him that angry and because no one spoke to Fleur Delacour like that. His version of this universe was savage; it’s a shame he rarely acted like that. Had he done that, his life would’ve been better.
“Oh, right… I remember, I’d like to apologize for my behavior, it’s just that I was going through a lot back then, and after hearing your words, I felt like you wanted to humiliate me in front of everyone, and I was tired of being humiliated that day,” he confessed with honesty.
It was the truth he was coming from potions and Snape targeted him the whole class, Malfoy had been insufferable, and Henry Potter and the twins had pranked him, he knew no girl would want to go to the ball with him, of course he was going to snap at the world, it was a surprise that he didn’t kill anyone that day, he wanted to kill Snape the most but he knew he wouldn’t succeed.
“No, it’s alright. I was taken aback by your attitude. I was surprised that you didn’t worship the floor that I walked on… I was even thinking about inviting you to the ball, but then I was invited by Roger Davies, and well… Let’s just say that he’s always going to remember that night and not in a good way,” she laughed, and Harry nodded.
Harry decided to laugh too, the situation was very interesting.
“I never had the chance to speak with you again, but I swear I did it for your own good. I didn’t want you to become a target of my admirers. I was told about the way they treated you. If I got close to you, it would’ve gotten worse,” she told him with a weak smile. “I want to apologize for my arrogant behavior,” she said with a sincere expression.
Then she raised her arm; she wanted to shake his hand to prove her honesty.
To say Harry was surprised would be an understatement; he saw no hidden motives behind this, neither in her expression nor her mind. He remained silent for a while and then decided to take her hand, clearly accepting the handshake and the apology.
“It’s alright, Fleur, I forgave you a long time ago, in fact, sometimes I remember that day and I feel guilty because of the way I snapped at you,” he said, ashamed.
She remained silent for a few moments, thinking about something, and then it clicked in her mind.
“Why don’t we have a fresh start? This could be an opportunity for us to become friends!" She declared, and Harry smiled.
“Are you sure? I mean, I’m not that cool, and I’m not very strong either…” He wandered off.
But then she did something he didn’t expect: she kissed him on the lips. To say he was surprised would be an understatement; however, he soon started to kiss her back. They were in the hallways, and Harry for sure knew that someone had seen them, so everyone was going to talk about this in the morning.
“Wow… If being your friend is kissing like that, then count me in,” he declared, and she smirked.
“This is just between us, Harry,” she declared with a seductive tone.
It didn’t take too long for them to kiss once again.
