Chapter #15: News.
Harry couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t supposed to happen; he was supposed to talk to her, and they would bring their relationship to another level, but no, just like always, life never goes the way Harry wants it to go. Bellatrix, his wife and the woman he was starting to fall for, has had an accident.
Well, accident is an understatement; it was a direct attack on their department by someone who clearly knew they were getting close to getting a suspect, and Bellatrix, sweet Bellatrix, who everyone saw as an evil bitch boss, actually risked everything to save everyone.
Right now, Harry was sitting in a hallway in St. Mungo’s, waiting for news about his wife’s current state, and he was getting desperate. He needed to do something; he knew he shouldn’t be here, he should be out there trying to catch the culprit behind the murders, so this could never happen.
“Harry… We came as soon as we received your message,” Harry heard his mother.
"We're sorry to hear what happened, son," James tried to comfort his son.
Then, other people joined a few moments later: Narcissa, Draco, Andromeda, Nymphadora, Sirius, and Cygnus arrived.
“I’m sorry… I should’ve done something instead of having a free day… I should’ve been there with her!” Harry said angrily. “I’m glad you’re all here. Please wait for news, and as soon as you hear an update, send me a message. I need to go, I need to finally catch the bastard to end this case once and for all,” Harry was about to get up.
However, his father decided to stop him in his tracks before he did something crazy. Harry had no time for this, but before he could say anything, the last person he wanted to speak to, decided to do it.
“Potter… Just like always, acting like a coward,” Draco said with a smirk.
“I have no time for your games, Malfoy… I’m not a coward, that’s why I want to capture that bastard, no matter the cost!” Harry said angrily.
“Yes, you’re a coward, it doesn't matter if you're not afraid to die, in the end, you're a coward who's scared of facing that you're actually… Afraid,” Malfoy’s words made him glare at him.
There was a tense silence; however, Malfoy didn’t back down.
“You’re afraid of her dying, and that’s why you want to run away to focus on something else, but Potter… No matter how much you try to run away, this is the reality; you'd better get used to it, accept it, and then, you can think about what to do.” Malfoy’s words shocked him.
Harry didn’t expect this coming from the man who was the angriest about him marrying his favorite aunt.
“I just… I just don’t want her to die, just when things were starting to get better between us,” Harry said with a serious tone.
“We know Harry… But what if she wakes up and you’re not here? I know she wouldn’t mind you going to work to solve the case, but… That’s not going to earn you points if you want to win her heart,” Sirius smiled at him.
“I must admit that… I was not happy about my father’s decision to marry my sister to you, but… I can see that you’re a good man… Harry Potter, she needs you here,” Narcissa spoke with a serious tone.
Harry was surprised. Narcissa and Draco have never liked him; becoming in-laws with him was an awful thing for Lucius and Narcissa. He was surprised that Draco and Narcissa were being kind of supportive.
“She makes me want to be better, you know?” Harry asked with a soft smile.
“Yes… That’s what my sister does… It could be good or bad depending on who you ask,” Andromeda told him.
Harry decided to remain silent for a few moments. He needed time to think about what to do. He decided to stop fighting and just face reality. Bellatrix couldn’t die; she was the strongest witch he knew. There was no way someone like her would die so easily.
He got back to his chair. He had many things to think about; his mind was a mess. There had to be something he could do; however, now that he was more at ease, he was starting to wonder something… How the hell did that person manage to pass the security controls of the ministry?
Everyone saw Harry’s concerned expression, and they were starting to get worried.
“Harry, is there something wrong?” Asked Sirius with a raised brow.
“Yes… I just realized something… The ministry has incredible security measures. How the hell did someone like that manage to get in without being spotted?” Harry was worried.
Everyone started to murmur. What Harry was saying made a lot of sense. Hijacking the place was almost impossible, so either they had the biggest criminal master mind as a nemesis, or this was an internal job; maybe someone from her team decided to help that person, and that was a scary thought for Harry.
However, before they could further discuss this theory, one of the healers finally arrived; it was someone Harry knew very well, a beautiful, brown-haired witch with a calm expression.
“Hermione… How is she?” Asked Harry with a worried expression.
“She’s stable, however, we’re a bit worried because she hit herself hard in the head, there’s no internal damage and no nerve damage, so all her functions are almost perfect, but we’re worried about other possible consequences,” Hermione sighed.
“Please, tell us everything we need to know.” Narcissa was keeping herself stoic, but it was clear that she was on the verge of tears.
“We’re still analyzing her state, but we’re considering the possibility of Bellatrix suffering memory problems; it could be a partial memory loss or even worse, we don’t know the extent of it, yet,” Hermione declared.
Somehow, even though it was sad to think about Bellatrix forgetting about them, to know that physically she was right and that she would have a normal life was relieving. However, they were worried about the memory problem; they were hopeful she would be able to get her memories back, but the most important thing was that she was fine.
“Oh, and on the positive side, I have very good news for the family, but especially for you, Harry,” Hermione said with a smile.
Everyone started to murmur. Harry looked at his best friend with an arched brow.
“Congratulations, I’m glad to inform you that Mrs. Bellatrix Potter is pregnant.” Hermione’s words caused everyone to gasp.
Harry didn’t know how to feel. On one hand, having a child was good news; however, the fact that Bellatrix wouldn’t be aware enough to appreciate it made the news a bit sour, considering she was the one who wanted to become a parent the most.
“Wait… Is the pregnancy really fine? I mean, she went through something terrible,” Harry was surprised.
“Don’t underestimate the power of motherhood, and no, I’m not being sentimental, just like dragon mothers protect their eggs, magical women, when they’re pregnant, if they face danger, the body prioritizes the unborn’s safety, using the user's own magic to create a shield to protect that life,” Hermione told her best friend.
Harry was surprised to hear that he was going to become a father, yes, and for the first time since this happened, he couldn’t help but smile. He was nervous and a bit scared because he was probably going to go through this alone, but the news were too amazing to think about anything else, and soon the congratulations started.
