Chapter #35: The introduction ceremony.
Harry had a neutral expression, right now the order high ranks were having a meeting, he and Hermione were outside, on the door waiting for them to let them in, apparently there’s some kind of vow they had to make just like Harry suspected, but it was alright, as it was stated, he wasn’t going to use the information to harm the order.
His feelings towards his parents are irrelevant; he only cares about himself, but that doesn’t mean that just because his ideals don’t align with the order’s, he’ll sell them to Voldemort, no, he hates that bastard more than anything else, more than even Dumbledore, who had the brilliant idea to leave him to rot with the Dursleys.
“This is so exciting,” Hermione told him with an enthusiastic expression.
“Yeah… I guess,” Harry replied as he scratched the back of his head. “You look really good this evening, Hermione,” he said, trying to ease the tension between them.
Hermione could only blush.
“Oh, if only Ron could notice…” She sighed heavily.
“You like Ron? Ew,” Harry said with a disgusted expression.
“I guess so,” she said, shrugging her shoulders.
“You guess? What do you mean by that?” Harry was now interested.
“Well, his mother says that she can see in his eyes that he likes me, but he’s too shy to do anything about it… Although, despite being shy, it doesn’t stop him from being a prat,” she sighed, and Harry chuckled.
“Wait, does Mrs. Weasley personally know that Ron fancies you? Has he ever told her anything?” Harry questioned.
Hermione was about to answer positively; however, she realized something, the idea of Ron liking her was nothing but a theory from the older woman.
“You really like him, Hermione?” He asked with an arched brow.
“Well, he’s not my first choice of a guy; there’s someone else that I like that has recently become popular…” She couldn’t help but look elsewhere.
Harry tried to act oblivious after hearing what she said; he knew she was talking about him, but the last thing he wanted was to make things awkward so soon.
“But I know it’s not possible, he’s way out of my league, but it’s alright, I just want to get an average man who's also a good person and magical, the dating pool is very small when it comes to us magicals for me to complain about it,” she sighed.
Harry was now seeing what Hermione was doing; she was trying to fool herself into thinking that Ron was the one for her.
“Can you believe that I had my first relationship last summer?” She said, and she couldn’t help but sigh in defeat.
“Really? Weren’t you dating Viktor Krum?” Harry asked with an arched brow.
“Oh, you say that because he was my date at the Yule ball during the Triwizard tournament, right? No, to be honest, he was a good person, but neither of us was interested in being more than friends. He couldn’t bring his girlfriend, who’s a few years older than him, to the ball, so he asked me because he didn’t want to go alone,” she just answered with a disappointed expression.
“I’m sure many guys would be relieved to hear that; no one wants to compete with a Quidditch star ex-boyfriend,” Harry chuckled, and she joined him. “So… Who did you date last summer?” Harry questioned her, and she couldn’t help but blush.
“Sirius Black,” she answered, completely embarrassed.
It was hard for Harry to keep his composure.
“Although I broke with him as soon as I realized that he was only dating me because Severus was interested in me,” she sighed.
Harry looked at her with a perplexed expression.
“I know… Only weird old wizards are interested in me, but like I said… The dating pool is way too small for someone like me to complain, after all, I’m just a plain witch with not much to offer than my brains, and most wizards aren’t interested in that,” she sighed.
“You’re wrong,” Harry stated calmly.
She looked at him with a confused look.
“What do you mean?” She felt a bit insulted; she hated being wrong.
“Well, I don’t think you’re a plain witch, and you’re very pretty, you just need to do something with your hair, although I find it cute like that,” he smiled at her.
Hermione couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Her crush called her cute. She was blushing heavily. She was about to say something else, but then they heard a growl from a dog that Harry recognized very well; it was Sirius in his animagus form.
“Oh, Siri—I mean Snuffles, quiet!” Hermione tried to discipline the dog.
It was crazy, in the end, both he and Sirius turned into womanizers; however, the man seemed to be more about showing off his women rather than enjoying their company and making them feel good. Many of them seemed dissatisfied with him rather than happy.
Harry is the complete opposite; he loves to make his women happy, that’s why he likes to live this kind of lifestyle and not take himself too seriously. If the women decide to stay with him despite everything, then it was a win, but if they didn't, then good luck; he respects women choosing their own path. The dog was listening to everything they said. Sirius was clearly spying on them, but before they could say something else, they were called.
“Come in, you two,” they heard James’ voice, and soon, both Harry and Hermione joined them.
Just like Harry thought, as soon as he entered, he realized that Sirius wasn’t present, confirming that he was spying on them, and Hermione knew very well what he was doing, but decided to cover up for him. Once inside, Harry felt a bit awkward; he didn’t know what to do or say. He just smiled casually, and of course, he also avoided contact with their eyes; the last thing he wanted was for his thoughts to be read.
“It’s time for you two to do the introduction ceremony, it’s a vow you have to do to make sure the information and everything that takes place here won’t be used against us,” James told them, and both Hermione and Harry nodded.
They were handed a paper with what they had to say. Hermione did her own vow, and her body glowed, accepting the deal, but then it was his turn; he put in place the plan he came up with to avoid this.
“One question, does the vow work even if I don’t know my real name?” Harry questioned with an innocent expression.
But inside, he was having too much fun once he saw his parents' reaction to his question, they knew he was right, Harry Dursley wasn’t his real name, it was Harry James Potter, so either they decided to call the vow off, or they revealed that they’re actually his parents. Soon, the members started to chat amongst themselves.
“I’m sorry, but I was adopted, and my uncles never revealed to me my true last name… They said my parents were good-for-nothing scumbags, not only for leaving me with them to become their burden but because they were freaks. My uncles truly hated everything magical,” Harry stated with a sad expression.
Seeing the pathetic look on their faces made all of this worth it; however, he kept his façade clean. They were clearly feeling guilt, which was good; it was the last thing they could feel after abandoning him with that scum.
