Chapter #44: The grass is greener.

Harry didn’t know how to feel about this situation. He had just sent an important letter, and Daphne Greengrass somehow found that to be a good enough reason to spy on him.

“So… Greengrass, what can I do for you? I don’t think the fact that I'm sending a letter is such a big deal…” Harry said with a calm tone. “Unless of course, the Slytherin house finds it an inconvenience that a muggleborn like myself sends a letter... Am I not pure enough to do that?” he added with a hint of sarcasm.

The blonde suddenly got annoyed.

“Who cares about what the Slytherin house thinks? All of them are too weak to do anything of what they preach, they’re just bitches waiting for their master to get back to life, their pranks are annoying, not scary!” Daphne’s sudden outburst surprised Harry.

He was having a hard time trying to contain his laughter. Still, in the end, he ended up chuckling, and the blonde quickly realized what she had just done.

“I—I mean—” she was trying to fix her image.

She was the ice queen of Slytherin; someone like her shouldn't act emotionally, or so she believed.

“You know Daphne… Can I call you Daphne?” He asked with a smile.

It took her a while to process the way he said her name; she only allows her friends, her sister, and her parents to call her that, and yet, she liked hearing her name from his lips.

“Yes, go ahead,” she said, trying to downplay the fact that she was feeling a bit embarrassed.

“I thought you were a boring snob just like the rest of your house, but it seems like you have an interesting side too,” he couldn’t help but admit.

Daphne couldn’t believe what was happening right now. Harry Dursley, a Muggleborn, someone like him should be scared of her; he should be on the ground worshipping her feet, begging her not to tell her house that he dared to speak to her as if they were friends.

She knows Slytherins would love any reason to target a muggleborn for their idiotic pranks; hell, Malfoy made a first-year muggleborn quit the school just because he dared to look at him in the eyes, the arrogant prick decided to put the whole Slytherin house against that poor boy.

But this man, Harry Dursley, was different from the people she was used to. Despite what most people would believe, she’s not like the rest of her housemates; she doesn’t have a vendetta against Muggleborns, she just doesn’t care enough for them to bother or help them, it was indifference, something she knew was as bad as helping her housemates with their agenda.

“Why…?” She asked in a low tone.

“Uh?” Harry was confused.

“Why aren’t you scared of me? You know the things my housemates do to people like you, right?” She asked him with a serious tone.

“Well, that's the way life is, I’m not going to live my life fearing a group of people that think they’re superior just because of their blood status,” Harry said with a casual attitude.

Daphne was surprised by his answer. That kind of attitude was dangerous; Muggleborn activists and politicians who try to make a change have been murdered in the past for having an attitude like that.

“Also… You know about the recent killings and captures, right?” He asked with a calm tone. “You know most of the targets are purebloods or people with close ties to many of your housemates,” he asked once again with a calm tone.

Daphne didn’t know why, but that information was terrifying and exciting at the same time.

“Yeah, so what? Don’t tell me you’re the one behind all those murders?” She asked with a serious tone.

Harry internally laughed, but he remained calm.

“Yeah, right…” She rolled her eyes.

Harry, being the one behind those killings, sounded ridiculous. Harry just walked past her and placed a hand on one of her shoulders.

“There’s something about those murders no one is talking about, and that I can safely assume is true after analyzing the public photos in the newspapers and is the fact that they were killed using muggle methods,” he finished as he walked away.

“What the… How do you know that?” Daphne demanded.

“I’m a muggleborn, remember that? Also, there are many TV shows about crimes in the muggle world. I've watched a lot of them, I learned a thing or two about them, even if some of the cases are very unrealistic,” Harry chuckled.

Harry disappeared, leaving Daphne to her thoughts, and then she realized something that Harry hadn’t told her.

“WHAT’S A TV SHOW?” She asked loudly.

But it was too late, Harry Dursley was gone, leaving her to her thoughts. The rest of the day was very difficult for the blonde as she couldn’t stop thinking about Harry Dursley. She knew that was wrong; there was no way she could be falling in love with him, there was no way her parents would approve of her falling in love with a muggleborn.

Her classes had been a disaster. When Snape asked her a couple of easy questions to give away free points to Slytherin, she ignored him until he slammed a hand on her desk, then she quickly answered the questions with an angry tone. Even though she was interrupted, she forgot that it was her teacher and head of house who did it.

However, even if Snape was angered by her attitude, he had to swallow his pride because she was correct with her answers, and so, Snape had to grant her points; still, that didn’t mean he was happy about her attitude. Many would be worried about angering Snape.

However, her father was one of Snape's classmates; they were friends, so the most he could do was speak privately with her to ask her why she snapped at him. She was planning to use the “I'm on my time of the month” card; the questioning usually stops once she says that.

Still, despite that, she couldn’t stop thinking about Harry, and so, she had an angry expression the whole day, which caused everyone to run as fast as they could at the sight of her. It was clear that she wasn’t in the mood to deal with bullshit today, or so they thought, but she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

The week went the same way; she was paying more attention to classes, but the thought of Harry on her mind was becoming more and more intense. She was afraid she was becoming obsessed with him. Luckily, Saturday finally came, and so, she finally had time to relax with her friend Tracey, maybe spending time with her would distract her from thinking about Harry. That’s why they were making out in a lone hallway. Tracey was kissing her passionately, but Daphne wasn’t moving the same way.

“Daph, what’s wrong? I know we aren’t dating or anything, but I need some passion here, love,” Tracey said before she kissed the blonde’s chin.

Daphne was about to apologize; however, there was a sight that suddenly distracted her. Two people were walking together, laughing and smiling.

“Oh, Dursley and Granger… I guess the trash sticks together, right?” Tracey laughed.

However, Daphne didn’t say anything; instead, she decided to follow them.

“Daph, what are you doing? Why are you following them?” Tracey asked with a worried tone.

But the blonde didn’t say anything, she just grabbed her friend’s hand and made her follow those two, they were on their way to Hogsmeade, today was Saturday, and the adults were able to leave, so she was now wondering if they were truly dating. Daphne needed to find the truth.
