Chapter #2: Hermione.

From Hermione’s point of view, everything happened so fast: after Voldemort was defeated, everyone should’ve been celebrating, but no, the happiness didn’t last; one moment they were cheering, and the next one, a light covered everyone, turning them into statues.

However, that wasn’t the most tragic thing for Hermione to witness; it was the fact that she was conscious the moment she was turned into a statue, so she was completely alone with her thoughts, and there was nothing she could do. It seemed like hope was gone as all humanity had been turned into statues.

However, she was surprised to see someone who wasn't turned into statue, it was Harry and he was completely normal, for some reason, he was able to escape the curse, but also, it was sad to see him like that, after everything he fought after everything he went through, he was alone and now the whole world’s destiny was resting on his shoulders once again.

He disappeared for the first few hours to bring some statues; she wasn’t able to see all of them, but he told her that he brought her parents’ statues, which made her feel happy even during these troublesome times.

At first, she thought he was going insane when he started to talk alone; however, she then realized that he was using the resurrection stone and he was using it to apparently speak with academic people, as he had books and was writing notes. It was clear that he was researching to discover how to break the curse.

She wanted to cry, but she couldn’t; she had to see him fail many times. She had ideas she wanted to share, she wanted to help him, but she was trapped, she was screaming at him so he could hear her, but nothing happened, still, he talked with him and the rest of their petrified friends every day.

And that’s how life passed by, and more than twenty years have passed since then; now he’s forty, taller, and Hermione couldn't help but admit that he was also more handsome. Hermione hated to admit that she was into older guys now, well, as older as Harry, at least; she couldn’t deny that he was attractive.

She thought the day he would find a cure would never happen; however, one day, with tears in his eyes and after an apology, he launched a spell, and she was expecting it to fail; however, to her surprise, the mold broke, and thus, she was finally freed from that prison.

She didn’t even care that she was completely naked. She ran as fast as she could and hugged him as if her life depended on it, and it made sense for her to act like that; she felt that if she let him go, she was going to lose him forever.

“Harry!” She said happily as she tightly hugged him.

Harry was taken aback by her attitude, but then he realized that his theory was right: Hermione was completely conscious, and he couldn’t take it anymore; he hugged her tightly, fearing the thought of losing her again.

“You did it… I saw how much you worked, and you did it… You broke the curse!” She said with an expression full of happiness but with tears in her eyes.

Harry couldn’t help but smile warmly at her, which made her feel interesting things. The hug continued for a few moments; however, even if they didn’t want to discuss it, it was time for an important talk. That’s why Harry decided to make some clothes for her: black boots, a pair of jeans and a sleeveless blouse because it was summer, and it was hot.

“Uh… I'd better leave you to get dressed, Hermione… Oh and take this,” he said as he looked away and gave the bookworm her wand.

Hermione was blushing, but she grabbed the things and quickly got dressed. What a great way to come back, Hermione thought; however, there were more important things to take care of. She was hoping the situation wouldn’t be that awkward, so she prepared herself and was now facing Harry, who brought her a plate filled with the typical English breakfast.

Even though she has spent more than twenty years in that state, she’s actually not that hungry; however, she couldn’t afford to risk any health issues, so she started to eat.

“We have something important to discuss,” Harry declared, and Hermione nodded.

He joined her with a cup of coffee and even served one for her that she gladly took. He then proceeded to explain to her the situation and how the world reached this point. Hermione listened carefully, and when he told her about the cure that he found, she was expecting him to tell her how to do it; however, he didn’t say a thing, but that was something she shouldn't worry about, or at least that's what Hermione thought.

“You should teach me how to break the curse; I think with my help we can depetrify more people,” she offered, and Harry nodded.

“Yes, look, this spell is more about intent. I want you to visualize yourself breaking the curse. Now, the important thing is the flick of the wand,” Harry explained, and soon, he showed her the movement with his own wand.

Hermione decided to practice. She grabbed her wand and found Ron’s statue. She concentrated and soon did as Harry explained to her, and to her surprise, the spell worked; Ron’s statue was breaking, and as soon as the curse broke, they shared a kiss.

Hermione didn’t notice, but Harry wasn’t too happy with the scene; however, he quickly changed his expression. He knew it was too stupid to think that now that he was older than Hermione, she was going to forget about Ron and fall for him.

“That was amazing, Harry,” Hermione said as she gave clothes to Ron.

“Glad you’re back, mate,” Harry said with a grin as he handed Ron his wand.

He was still his best friend, so he was glad to have him back.

“We need to save more people; we don’t have time to—” Ron was about to suggest; however, Harry quickly stopped him.

“I think we should think carefully before acting,” Harry suddenly told Hermione and Ron, surprising them.

They looked at him with curious expressions.

“What do you mean, Harry? We need to save the world!” Ron said, surprised.

“Yeah, the world… And save the people who created Voldemort in the first place, the same system, the same society. To be honest, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Harry told them with a serious tone.

They were taken aback by his attitude; well, twenty years don’t pass without having consequences on a person.

“I want to build a new civilization, one in which people can finally live amongst each other without prejudices, one where the statute of secrecy doesn’t exist,” Harry explained with a soft smile.

Hermione was surprised by his words.

“Which is why we need to be careful before we depetrify other people, at least on the magical side; with muggles it's easier, we just need to avoid the politicians,” Harry explained.

They remained silent; the situation was a bit awkward.

“Isn’t that a bit like a dictatorship?” Hermione asked worriedly.

“Not at all, I’m not planning on becoming a leader; I just want to build a civilization in which someone like Voldemort could never exist. There are people out there who could use this opportunity to become tyrants; that’s why we need to be careful about who we revive, Hermione.” Harry’s words were shocking.

And Hermione didn’t know how to feel about it.
