Chapter #3: Betrayal.
Hermione didn’t know how to feel about their current situation, she was in the castle sleeping in the great hall with Ron, they were resting on the floor and they were staring at the ceiling, Hermione didn’t know how to feel about this whole fiasco, the meeting with Harry was sweet at first, but then it quickly turned into something else, something with more sinister vibes.
Hermione knew that Harry was right to some extent, but she couldn’t help but feel like Harry sounded like Dumbledore or even worse, Voldemort, all of them thought they had good intentions that actually hid how awful they were, not at the same extent, though, Dumbledore wasn’t a maniac like Voldemort, but if he needed to sacrifice people to fulfill his plans, then he was going to do it, which made him truly scary.
“What are you thinking of?” Asked Ron, seeing that she was silent.
Hermione didn’t say anything; she just groaned.
“Nothing, Ron, go to sleep,” she said before sighing and closing her eyes, trying to sleep.
Ron didn’t say anything, but Hermione knew the conversation wasn’t over.
“You know…” He started, and Hermione groaned once again. “I was thinking about the meeting with this future Harry,” the redhead said, and Hermione sighed.
“What about it? Our dear friend never stopped working to save us, and here we are; we should be happy, right?” Hermione asked, and not even she believed what she was saying.
“I’m grateful for what he did, but I don’t agree with his way of thinking,” Ron declared with a serious tone, which caught Hermione’s attention.
“He’s just trying to avoid another Voldemort from existing; you can’t blame him, Ron; he lost everyone whom he loved because of him; it makes sense for him to think like that.” Hermione wasn’t justifying Harry’s actions.
She recognized the causes and the reasons why Harry was acting like that, not that she agreed, but psychologically, it made sense for him to act like that.
“Then why don’t you agree with him?” Ron asked with a serious tone.
She glared at him.
“Why would I agree with that way of thinking? You know me well, Ron. I would never try to become some kind of power-hungry maniac,” Hermione sighed.
“Then let’s do something; we need to work before Harry creates his civilization full of people who would do anything for him, even give up their lives so he could achieve his goals,” Ron said with a worried tone.
Hermione was starting to think that Ron was going insane; however, she actually could see that what the redhead said made sense.
“If he becomes the force that leads us, then who’s going to stop him when he goes too far?” Ron’s words surprised her.
“Wow… Have you been reading lately?” Hermione asked, amused.
He rolled his eyes.
“Very funny, Hermione, but no, what I’m saying comes from a logical conclusion: a force no one can control can become dangerous, just like fiendfyre, it can help you get out of a situation, but at some point, it’s going to catch you and burn you too,” Ron said, worried.
Hermione knew she was going to regret this, but she decided to humor him.
“Do you have any idea what we should do?” She tried to be a supportive girlfriend.
Although she felt less attracted to Ron after so many years as a statue, her thoughts were full of Harry’s new self, she felt guilty because she felt like she was emotionally cheating on Ron but she couldn’t stop herself, she was a normal woman with normal urges, and if Ron can’t make her feel like a real woman, then there’s nothing they could do.
Still, it’s not like she was going to tell Ron that; she was probably confused because she witnessed a side of Harry she never thought she would witness him in survival mode and, adding the fact that she was saved by him, it added points to his cause.
She knew it was just a phase; all women go through crushes towards older, attractive, and smart men. She knew that very well; that’s why she was calm; she knew she would eventually fall in love with Ron once again.
“Hermione?” Ron asked, and she quickly looked at him with a puzzled expression.
She quickly remembered that they were having an important conversation, so she shook her thoughts off.
“Yes? You were saying?” Hermione questioned with a calm expression.
“I was telling you about my plan… I think we need to get out of here before he puts tracking charms on us or something like that; we could be the last hope of the world, the only ones who can stop him,” Ron told her with a worried tone.
What Ron was saying was surprisingly smart; it seems like he really thought about this, and it wasn’t just something said out of fear.
“You know how to do it, right? How to depetrify people?” Ron questioned Hermione, and she nodded. “Then let’s do it, let’s run before he finds us.” Ron grabbed her hand, and soon they got on their feet, ready to run.
“Ron, wait… Are we seriously going to leave the rest of our friends here?” Hermione asked with concern.
“We’ll come back for them later; first we need allies,” Ron insisted, and she sighed.
She didn’t want to leave; however, she didn’t want to be part of this movement either. She wanted to save the world, and she hated knowing that she was leaving her parents here, but there was no other way, so they decided to leave that night, and the next day, Harry woke up worried.
He slept like a log, ever since the petrification day, he had trouble sleeping, however, now it was like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders, and he slept for more than twelve hours, but when he woke he realized something, in different circumsntaces, Hermione would’ve woken him to get to work as soon as possible, she’s not someone who loses time, so, there was something strange about the situation.
“Hermione… Ron!” He screamed and looked for them everywhere.
Then he ended up in the great hall as he summoned her clothes. It seems like she and Ron left, and she also left the clothes he transfigured for her.
“They left,” Harry said with a disappointed tone. “I hate to say this, but I need to find them and obliviate them before they do something stupid like depetrify random people or worse... Death Eaters,” he sighed, defeated.
He hated to get on warning mode, but it was important to keep that secret.
“It’s time for me to start depetrifying important people too,” Harry said with a serious tone, and he got back to the place where all the important statues were lined up.
If it weren’t because the spell takes a lot of energy, he would’ve depetrified all of them; however, there were priorities, especially right now that he had been betrayed. He needed someone smart but also with the right amount of wit, so he grabbed Luna’s statue and soon depetrified her.
The mold broke, and the blonde jumped at him completely naked, then she decided to kiss him passionately. Harry was taken aback by the blonde’s attitude; however, it’s been so long since he’s been with a woman that he kissed her back without hesitation.
Harry carried her around bridal style as they continued kissing, and when the kiss ended, they couldn’t help but smile at each other, and thanks to this, Harry knew that Luna was on his side.
