Chapter #7: A deal.
Hermione couldn’t believe what was happening. Ron, her boyfriend, the person who convinced her that Harry was the one who would become a tyrant, was now acting crazy. She felt so embarrassed because they had just brought Professor Snape back, and he was acting like that in front of someone she admired.
“Ron, what are you saying?!” She asked worriedly.
“I’m not giving him his wand back, not before he swears to be loyal to me!” Ron said with a dangerous tone.
Hermione doesn’t know what happened; it was like he was possessed by something. This Ron wasn’t the Ron she was used to; this was a stranger who looked like the guy she loved.
“Weasley… Stop playing around and give me my wand. If you do that, I promise I won’t hold a grudge against you... And you can guess how I pay people whom I hold a grudge against.” Snape couldn’t believe what the redhead was doing.
He was happy that even if he was alive, he wouldn’t have a master to serve anymore. Dumbledore was gone and Voldemort too; however, it seems like he has landed himself in a worse situation. It seems like this time he's going to serve someone like Ron Weasley, which would be an ultimate humiliation.
“Ron… Please stop this!” Hermione begged.
“No… This bastard has treated me like shit ever since the day I arrived at Hogwarts. Yes, he indeed had to put up a façade to make it look like he hated Harry, but he had no need to do the same to me; my mother and father always respected him, and he always treated me like shit,” Ron said angrily.
Snape now knew where this was going.
“Hermione, you know very well how I’ve always felt about being the youngest male in my family. I’m not even the youngest sibling; I’m the youngest male, always in the shadow of my older successful brothers. Now I have the chance to prove them wrong, I have the chance to build something that would make everyone respect me!” Ron said with a grin.
Hermione was very aware of Ron’s feelings about his situation, but she wasn’t expecting the scars to be this deep and so extreme; she wanted to stop him; the last thing she wanted was to humiliate someone she respected so much, like Professor Snape.
“So… You plan to become the next dark lord? With Potter alive, you won’t last long,” Snape said with a smirk.
Ron just scowled.
“Dark lord? No, that’s pure bullshit. I don’t plan to conquer the world and make people follow that stupid ideology, even though as a pureblood I have more right than that bastard,” Ron scowled. “I plan to create a place where the fun will be the core; there will be no work and no school unless you want to, and my civilization will be so much fun that everyone will want to join, and I’m going to be the king of this new civilization!” Ron declared.
Snape and Hermione shared a look; she knew she should stop her boyfriend; however, she couldn’t find in herself the strength to do it. If she abandons him, then she’s going to be alone, as she for sure doesn’t want to go back with Harry, or at least not right now.
“Sounds like a terrible idea,” Snape couldn’t help but admit. “Sounds like that would turn into an eventual disaster,” Snape said, completely annoyed.
“No, the only disaster will be Harry’s civilization… That place won’t last, I can assure you, and once that happens, they’re going to join us,” Ron continued, saying stupid things from Snape’s point of view.
The older wizard was getting annoyed; however, seeing that his supposed new master wasn’t as vicious and smart as his previous ones, he decided to make a deal.
“Weasley, I propose something… I will serve you,” he declared, and Ron’s eyes lit up.
The professor who had treated him like shit was going to have to obey him. Ron wanted to contain his happiness, but his expression made his feelings too obvious.
“Really?” Ron asked, not believing what he had just heard.
“Yes… But I don’t want to be tied to a magical vow to you but instead... I want to be tied to Granger,” the older wizard declared.
Hermione’s eyes widened; she wanted to remain neutral about this whole fiasco, but it seems like she’s going to get dragged into this.
“Wait… Why?” Ron asked, a bit annoyed.
“Because you’re acting like an emotional toddler, you’re a time bomb, and until you grow and mature, I can’t follow you all the way through,” Snape told him without hesitation.
“You know I can kill you if you don’t do what I say, right?” Ron’s words shocked Hermione.
However, Snape just smirked; it seems like Ron fell into his trap card.
“You could, and yet, you haven’t done it, which only means one thing… You don’t have what it takes to kill,” Snape smirked.
Ron then placed his wand on the older wizard’s neck.
“No, Ron, stop it, you’re not like that!” Hermione begged, but Snape never stopped smirking.
“Go ahead, do it; it’s not like I wanted to survive anyway. I had already accepted my death, so if you kill me, you’re only giving me something I already wanted.” Snape’s words were calm and creepy at the same time.
“Ron, please… I’m getting scared.” Hermione was truly worried about the person her boyfriend had become with just a bit of power.
“But you also need to take into account that with my death, you’re losing the strongest wizard after Dumbledore and Voldemort,” Snape suddenly started to walk. “I am one of the smartest wizards alive. I practically dominate every branch of magic that’s taught in Hogwarts. I know my worth, Weasley, and I’m not giving it away without a good reason; that’s why I can only follow someone whom I know I can trust, like Grange,” the younger witch blushed at the compliments.
To hear Snape talk about her like that was making her feel weird things that she shouldn’t feel.
“That’s, of course, unless you don’t trust Hermione,” Snape added, and that caused the redhead to look at his girlfriend with a doubtful look.
“Of course, I trust her with my life; that’s why she brought me back because there’s trust between us, right, baby?” Asked Ron, not so sure about what he was saying.
“Of course, you don’t even have to ask that; I can assure you that I will never betray you.” Hermione was being honest.
Snape could only feel bad about the young woman; she was clearly trying too hard to please this scumbag. Still, their relationship wasn’t his business, so he decided to leave them be and focus on what’s important.
“Very well, I want you to swear allegiance to Hermione,” Ron ordered, and so Snape clarified his voice.
“By the power of my magic, I swear that I’m going to follow Hermione Jane Granger until the day she wants me to.” Snape’s words made Hermione sigh.
“I accept the proposal,” Hermione said, and soon their bodies were covered by light, meaning that the contract was accepted.
“Very well.” Ron handed him his wand. “Rest,” we’re starting our plans tomorrow,” Ron said as he left Hermione and Snape alone.
Once she saw that Ron was out of their sight, she sighed.
“Professor… Why did you truly accept?” She asked, worried about the older wizard’s reasons.
“I see that you realized,” he chuckled. “It’s simple, Miss Granger; your boyfriend is like a rabid dog, but he can be controlled. I need to be there to stop him from letting the power take over his head,” he said as he transfigured a cloak.
Hermione wanted to argue, but she knew that the older wizard’s reasons were valid, even she was worried about Ron becoming a power-hungry maniac.
