Chapter #58: Strange feelings.

After speaking with Harry, the members of the order had a meeting. There were many things they needed to discuss; it had been an eventful couple of days to say the least, so they needed to have this conversation whether they wanted it or not. As soon as the silencing charms were placed, they couldn’t contain themselves any longer.

“Albus… What the hell was that?” James was completely taken aback by that conversation they had with Harry.

Out of all the things they were expecting to hear, being saved by that monster wasn’t the thing they expected to hear.

"What do you want me to tell you, James? It’s just the way it is; he saved us, somehow; he managed to destroy the Horcrux and save us from the jinx that somehow didn’t work on him." Dumbledore's tone was serious.

There was an uncomfortable silence in the room.

“But… How? He’s not supposed to be strong; he has shown nothing but mediocre magical abilities throughout the years at Hogwarts.

No one said anything for a few moments.

"He wouldn't be the first wizard to look mediocre but actually be a genius when it matters," Remus tried to consider that.

They were having a hard time believing that could be true. If he were truly a prodigy, the teachers would've noticed.

“What if… What if he’s not truly evil?” Lily asked the question no one wanted to consider.

This caused everyone to look at her with concerned expressions; if she was right, then all they’d done had been in vain, and the realization could kill them.

“No, it can’t be. Dumbledore checked him after the attack on Godric’s Hollow…” The idea of Dumbledore being wrong scared the shit out of Remus somehow.

“For fuck’s sake!” Lily’s words shocked everyone.

She rarely cursed, but it was an interesting sight when she did.

“He had the opportunity to leave all of you to die; he had the opportunity to leave you with the ring so you would be engulfed by the curse, and he didn’t; he could’ve taken the chance to kill you while you were out, and he didn’t…” She stopped as she tried to calm herself.

She hated having emotional outbursts, but their attitude was starting to make her lose her patience. It seemed like they were stubbornly holding onto that idea instead of considering that they were probably wrong. If that were the case, it would be Dumbledore’s fault, and he’ll have to pay for that; however, without even considering it, they’re losing important time.

Maybe it’s her instinct as a mother, or maybe it’s the fact that they shared blood that was calling her to reconsider what she believed about her dangerous son, but the facts were there; if he wanted them dead, he would’ve done it.

“Lily… I think you’re overthinking this, what he did, I think he did it to manipulate us,” Sirius suddenly spoke.

Of course, he was going to be the one who wanted to continue believing Harry was evil; he has been his number one hater from the day of the attack to this day, always encouraging Henry to play pranks on his unknown brother, admitting that Harry couldn’t be that evil would mean for Sirius to admit that he was wrong, something he never did because he never fully matured to grasp that concept.

“I can’t believe you guys…” Lily said, disappointed, and soon left the meeting room.

Everyone in the room was silent; this situation was very awkward to say the least. As for Lily, she didn’t know why she was feeling like this. Ever since the day of the attack, she has hated Harry; she couldn’t help but caress the collar on her neck. Harry used to love that thing, and it was there on the cradle the day of the attack.

Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted as she walked in the hallway, and found Hermione, for some reason, the smart witch, the one she was compared to a lot, was a bit embarrassed.

“Hermione, are you alright?” Lily asked with a confused expression.

“Uh… Yes, Lily, I’m okay… More than okay, actually,” she said with a grin.

However, she then realized who she was talking to and decided to calm herself.

“What can I do for you?” Hermione asked, sensing that the older witch had something important to say.

“Do you know where Harry is?” The redhead asked with a raised brow.

Hermione smiled weakly.

“Sorry, Mrs. Potter, but he went back to the castle; he said there was something he needed to work on and needed to visit the library,” Hermione told her with a calm expression.

“What? Why didn’t he work here? We have a huge ancient library, probably the biggest in the country because of all my purchases,” Lily said, disappointed.

She really wanted to speak with Harry to check if her suspicions were true or if she was being blinded by her motherly love.

“That’s what I said. I tried to tell him to work together with me, but he said that he was sensing that his presence was causing a bit of strain in this household and said he didn’t want to be a burden,” Hermione sighed.

Lily couldn’t help but gulp. She was starting to feel more and more guilty; she had been a terrible mother.

“Are you alright, Lily?” Hermione asked with a worried tone.

The redhead remained silent for a few moments and then nodded.

“Yeah… It's just… I’m tired because of these recent events; I'm going to take a rest,” she told the bookworm with a soft smile.

Hermione nodded and decided to leave the woman alone; the last thing she wanted was to intrude where she didn’t belong. As for Lily, the older woman decided to visit her study. There were many artifacts there, but most of all, books. However, out of all the books she had in her private collection, she decided to grab a special one.

“How did we go so wrong?” She asked herself as she opened the book.

There were many photos; it was an album, and in all of the photos, there were younger versions of Lily with James and two babies. It was from the days before Voldemort attacked them; she couldn’t help but sob at the memories. She knew she had no right to be forgiven after everything they put Harry through.

“For fuck’s sake, I said I was going to kill him myself if he turned out to be a threat… What kind of monster says that kind of stuff about their son?” She said, completely hating herself.

Still, there was something inside her trying to make her go back to the old ways. She didn’t want to hate Harry any longer, but there was something that was making her stop in her tracks about her positive feelings towards Harry; then her eyes widened after she started to cough blood.

“What the…” She said with blood in her hands.

Some of it even fell on the album, and fate was cruel because the blood fell on the only photo they had of Harry himself. Lily didn’t know what was going on. There was no way that the guilt she felt would be enough to kill her. She then started to lose her balance, and in the end, she just fell on the floor, completely unconscious.

She couldn’t help but think of Harry while she lost consciousness; maybe this was karma for all the things she did to him. She felt like dying, so if that were the case, she could only grab the collar on her neck. At least she wanted to cherish something Harry loved; she regretted that she couldn’t say sorry to him.
