Chapter #59: Danger approaches.
Harry was walking on the Hogwarts hallways with a grin on his face, he couldn’t wait to show Hermione what he has been working on, he was greeting people on his way to searching for the bookworm, after all, when he becomes a famous quidditch player he wants to be remembered as the cool guy who treated everyone fair and square and not as an arrogant prick, then he found Neville who had a serious expression.
“Hey, Longbottom… Do you know where Hermione is?” Harry asked with a calm tone.
It was hard to remind himself that he wasn’t close to this Neville and that he wasn’t sure that the Longbottom heir would like to be; still, Harry couldn't afford to be prideful as he probably knew where Hermione was.
“Dursley, I’m not in the mood to talk,” Neville said harshly.
“Don’t worry, I don’t want us to talk about our crushes and have tea; I just want to know if you have any idea where Hermione is?” Harry asked with a serious tone.
Neville sighed; it was clear that he was getting annoyed.
“Have you tried the library?” Neville asked, starting to lose his patience.
“I already checked there,” Harry countered.
“She’s probably at the lake then; she likes to read there when she wants to be alone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to be alone right now,” Neville finished before leaving Harry to his thoughts.
“Geez, what has gotten on his knickers?” Harry questioned, annoyed.
However, he quickly shook his thoughts and went to the lake. He needed to talk to her about the project that he’s working on; he needs someone like her to help him perfect it, a muggleborn who will understand why he’s doing this.
Five minutes later, he was finally on the lake. Luckily, she was there, sitting on the shore, with a book that she was ignoring and a melancholic expression; she didn’t even care that her bare feet were getting wet, something that could make her sick in this climate.
“I always wanted to be a fish and don’t have any worries too,” Harry said as he sat beside her.
Hermione’s eyes widened as she realized he was there, and then she sighed.
“Hi Harry,” she said with a sad tone.
“Hey,” Harry declared before capturing her lips.
She was surprised, but she quickly kissed him back. The kiss quickly became more and more intense until she decided that it was enough.
“What’s wrong, Mione? And don’t try to tell me that everything’s right because I can tell that’s not the case.” Harry tried to get her to talk.
The bookworm remained silent for a few moments, but then she sighed.
“Nothing, it’s just that… Something happened to Lily.” Now those words caught Harry’s attention.
“Really? That’s weird; she was fine the last time we saw her yesterday.” Harry was surprised to hear that.
“Yeah, that’s what I said. James found her in her office; she had collapsed, and she was coughing blood. Luckily, he found her before things got worse; had James arrived later, it would’ve been too late to save her.” Hermione was on the verge of tears right now.
Harry felt bad for her, so he hugged her, trying to comfort her. However, now he was also curious to know what happened to the Lily of this universe. Still, being too interested in that family would arouse suspicions, so he decided to keep his thoughts to himself.
“Why don’t we visit her?” Harry doesn’t know what came to him to suggest that, but he wanted Hermione to feel better.
“I-I don’t know, it seems like it’s a family business; I don’t want to intrude,” Hermione said, a bit worried.
Harry just shook his head and grabbed her hand to pull her up.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure they consider you a good friend. Come on, let’s go,” Harry told her with a soft smile.
Hermione sighed but in the end, she put her shoes again and so, they managed to leave the school grounds, Harry didn’t even tell her how they were going to apparate to the Potter family compound, he just apparated them and just like he suspected when they arrived, Hermione was in a perfectly shape, she already knew how to do it, so, he didn’t have to worry about the apparition effects.
However, once they opened the door, many wands were pointed at them, Hermione and Harry were kind of shocked, but it made sense for them to act like that, after all, they arrived without notifying before.
“Uh… Sorry that we arrived out of nowhere; I just wanted to know how Lily was doing,” Hermione said as she tried to remain calm.
“What is he doing here?” Henry asked with a glare aimed at Harry.
“I brought Hermione here because I knew she wanted to be here, but she was too shy to ask, so I took matters into my own hands. I’m leaving now,” Harry said with a calm tone.
He wasn’t showing any anger towards them, even though that was theoretically his mother who was recovering; Harry still didn’t feel like that towards her.
“Well, I better leave you here, Mione… Please tell Mrs. Potter that I wish her a quick recovery.” Harry left the place, and everyone was stunned.
“The nerve of that bastard…” Henry said angrily.
“Stop it… That’s enough, Henry,” James said as he massaged his temples; the redhead just scowled.
Meanwhile, Lily woke up as if she had just experienced a nightmare.
“HARRY!” She said, shocked, and then quickly got on her feet.
She got out of the room without even wearing shoes, and everyone was staring at her with shocked expressions.
“Where is he, James?” Lily demanded, shocking her husband.
“Who?” James asked worriedly, staring at Sirius, thinking that the redhead wanted to unleash her anger on their friend.
“Harry… I know he was here!” Lily couldn’t help but say with a desperate tone.
“Relax, Mum… That nuisance is gone,” Henry said, a bit jealous about the attention that guy was getting from his parents.
It seems like what he feared finally happened: his parents decided to replace him; that’s why he didn’t want that guy in their home- someone like that who didn’t have parents was going to find a way to steal his own. Lily was about to say something, but then she started to cough blood once again.
“Shit…” She said with a defeated tone.
It was crazy to hear Lily curse, and in different circumstances this would’ve been a funny situation; however, her health was more important, so James decided to grab her and take her back to her room.
“No, James… I need to tell him that we’re his parents. I don’t want to—” she started to cough blood again.
“Dear, you’re getting worse; let’s just relax and forget about that for now,” James said with a serious tone.
Meanwhile, Harry was about to leave the place, but then he saw a known rat. He tried to pretend that he didn’t see it, and then he fired a spell, causing the rat to turn into an old, ugly, fat wizard that Harry recognized very well; it was the man who ruined his life.
“Peter… I knew it was you,” Harry said with a wicked tone.
However, instead of being afraid, Pettigrew started to laugh, and Harry realized why: everyone was in danger; he needed to come back.
