Chapter #8: Jealousy.
After that Snape fiasco, Hermione grabbed Ron by the ear and took him to another place to speak privately with him. The redhead was complaining about the way Hermione was grabbing his ear, but she didn’t care about his complaints; she was so disappointed after being embarrassed in front of Professor Snape that she couldn’t pretend otherwise.
“I can’t believe you would do that, Ron… Professor Snape has done everything to save the world from Voldemort to help our cause, even if he pretended to be evil; we’re supposed to be on the same side!” Hermione snapped at her boyfriend.
Ron just scowled.
“Ah, the same old Hermione… Always being on other people’s side instead of supporting me, your boyfriend, go away then, leave with Snape and have a bunch of sarcastic babies with him!” Ron spat angrily.
Hermione was shocked and embarrassed to hear those words; it was as if this were a different Ron.
“Ron… What are you implying?” She asked angrily.
“Oh, please, Hermione… I saw you looking at him while he was naked.” Ron’s insecurities were kicking again.
“I was shocked!” Hermione defended herself. “Not every day you see someone like Snape in that position; it was also funny in some way!” Hermione was starting to lose her patience.
Ron could only shake his head in disbelief.
“Yeah, whatever you say, Hermione… It doesn’t matter; you can be with him if you want to. I’m going to be king anyway, and many women are going to want me.” Ron’s words made Hermione fear.
You see, Hermione has never felt good about herself, she has always been teased about her looks and attitude, people were always telling her that she was never going to find someone who would love her for who she was and even though it has been a long time since that, and Hermione’s looks have changed so much that many people could agree that she’s at least in the top five beautiful witches of her generation.
Regardless of the many compliments and the attention of other guys, the trauma of those days is hard to forget, and Hermione now fears that Ron would abandon her; he’s the only man who has loved her for who she was, even if he was a jerk when it came to expressing his feelings.
“Ron, please… I… I’m sorry, I don’t want to lose you…” She said desperately.
She knew she looked pathetic, begging for someone like Ron to be by her side, but as stated before, she doesn’t want to be alone, and she doesn't want him to abandon her, and she may not be aware of that, but she’s putting herself at Ron’s mercy, something that could end very badly.
“Well, if you want to apologize, I want you to do something for me…” Hermione knew what was coming.
However, in the end, she nodded.
“I want you to teach me the spell to depetrify people,” Ron demanded.
Hermione was in shock. Out of all the things she expected to hear, that was the last one on her list. She was trying her best not to lose her mind as this day had been very stressful to say the least. She was expecting him to ask her for something they hadn’t done yet, so she sighed, relieved that he didn't ask for that.
“Fine… You’ll have to visualize and think about the mold breaking, and then you do this movement,” Hermione showed him the movement.
If it could be described in wavelength, it would be a combination of sine, square, and saw. Hermione repeated it many times because she knew it would take some moments for Ron to fully memorize it. After a few tries, Ron finally nodded, and he was ready to practice.
He found a random statue that was covering other statues and decided to try; however, he couldn’t get it right. He tried once again, but he continued failing.
“Take your time; I couldn’t achieve it at first, too,” she said before leaving him.
She decided to break a random guy's mold, and it worked.
“Thank you for saving me,” the man said with a smile.
“You’re welcome. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t find your wand. Don’t worry, we’ll get a wandmaker soon,” Hermione told the wizard, and he nodded.
He then grabbed a small tree branch and broke it until it looked like a stick. He tried to use it, and it worked; however, the man was disappointed.
“It’s not as powerful and efficient as my wand, but I think it can serve for basic stuff.” Hermione smiled at the man.
She decided to leave him alone because she needed to see Snape. She found him in his transfigured cottage, and he was classifying materials in jars. He had collected those materials in a really short time. Hermione was impressed; he also already had cauldrons boiling stuff.
“Good evening, professor—” Hermione couldn’t finish.
“Don’t call me professor; I’m not your teacher anymore, Miss Granger, and I don’t plan to do that again,” he said calmly.
It was so weird for Hermione to see him acting like that.
“Just call me Severus,” he said as he started to write some things on a muggle notebook; surprisingly, he even had pens.
It seems like he went to steal some stuff from the muggles, and she was surprised that all those things were still usable after such a long time.
“A shame to be honest, even if you were a cruel professor… You were a really good one; you just need to change your attitude,” Hermione tried to convince him.
He just scowled.
“What can I do for you, Miss Granger?” He asked with a raised brow. “Is our king Weasley in need of me?” He asked sarcastically.
Hermione could only sigh.
“I’m really sorry for what he did prof—Severus,” she corrected at the last minute. “It’s just that, all his life, he’s been the underdog of his family, you know? No matter how much people tell you otherwise, it’s hard to forget those traumas,” Hermione confessed before sighing.
“Well, I can see why he turned out to be like that, but what I’m worried about is you, Miss Granger,” he said with real concern.
Hermione was surprised; however, she needed to say something first.
“Please… If you want me to call you Severus, please call me Hermione,” the bookworm said with a slight grin.
Snape couldn’t help but smirk. It seemed like Granger had more fire in her than he expected; he couldn’t help but think about Lily right now; they were very similar.
“Okay… Hermione,” he said with an awkward tone. “Like I was saying, I’m worried about you.” he couldn’t help but sigh.
“And why would you feel worried?” She asked with a raised brow.
“Well, you’re a really extraordinary witch, Hermione, you’re brave, gentle and most of all… Pretty,” those words shocked Hermione.
She couldn’t help but blush. Hermione was always seeking approval from the professors, and hearing that from the professor who never gave it to her felt nice.
“I don’t know why you put up with an ogre like that,” Severus told her with a weak smile.
Hermione wanted to argue and say that Ron wasn’t an ogre, but lately he’s been acting like one, so it was difficult to defend him.
“I have my reasons,” she said with an embarrassed expression. “Anyway, I think we need to discuss our plan to rebuild the civilization,” Hermione told the older wizard.
Snape looked at her with a raised brow, but he nodded, it was time to have this important conversation while their foolish king played around.
