Chapter #15: A not-so-fun game.
In a small building, a group of children were listening carefully to what Hermione was saying and writing on a blackboard.
“And that concludes the classes for the day, you can go home now,” Hermione told them, and they happily screamed as they emptied the classroom.
Many of them said goodbye and thanked Hermione; she smiled back at them. This wasn’t how she planned her life to be; however, this wasn’t too bad. Teaching both magical and non-magical children was proving to be a fulfilling experience; it was important to teach magical children how to use their wands as soon as possible.
On the other hand, teaching math and how to read was very important to Muggle children too; for now, the classes were basic, so things were going to be like that for a while. She was happy that Ron decided to let them study, considering how much he was against education.
“Professor Granger, are you done for the day?” She heard a known voice.
“Hospital director Snape, what a surprise,” Hermione said, not truly surprised. “Is it time already?” She asked with a concerned expression.
“Yes, our majesty has left his post to take care of some important matters with some women that, according to him, required his complete attention,” Snape hated saying this.
He knew how much she loved the redhead; hell, for someone to be with him, it required lots of love or a love potion, and he knew Granger was not foolish enough to fall for such cheap tricks, so it was obvious that she was in love with the redhead scumbag.
“I’m sorry,” he added with a calm tone.
“It’s alright, Severus… I already accepted that he’s never going to change no matter what I do, and if that’s the way he wants to live, then I’m not going to stop him; I’m not going to waste my life chasing after him,” she told him with a weak smile. “Shall we get going so we can get to work?” She asked with a more motivated tone.
Severus nodded, and soon they were on the way to the city hall where the council reunites. They were discussing what new improvements they were going to make to the city and how it would impact the citizens; meanwhile, Ron had decided to party with some women wearing normal clothes when he found a couple of sad kids.
“Hey… What’s wrong boys? What are your names?” He asked them with a worried tone.
“I'm Jim, and he's my brother William," one of them answered. "We're okay, just like mum says; we're happy to be alive, but… It’s just that… We miss TV and videogames,” one of them answered.
Ron had no idea what they were talking about.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what that is,” Ron confessed with a disappointed tone.
“Oh, you must be one of those people with wands, right?” Asked the other boy, William.
“I’m so jealous of all you… You can do awesome things while we’re stuck doing nothing but studying,” the other boy, Jim, complained.
“I wish I had magic,” the other one said.
Ron felt bad for them, but there was nothing he could do. If there was a rule that Hermione insisted he respect, it was to put a boundary between magical and normal people. She said that it wasn’t a good idea for muggles to get involved with magic; she didn’t explain why, but she just strictly forbade that.
“Hey, mister… Why don’t you use your wand to make some video games appear?” Jim asked with an interested expression.
Ron could only sigh.
“I told you that I don’t know what that is,” the redhead insisted.
The boys decided to tell him what it was all about, and Ron was starting to feel more and more interested. In the end, the boys were explaining everything in a very interesting way that it made him want to play video games too.
“That sounds amazing,” Ron couldn’t help but admit.
“Right?” One of the boys said.
“You should try to do some games with magic; if you did that, you would become the most popular person in the city, even more popular than the king!” The other boy told him; it seemed like they didn't know they were dealing with the king.
Those words caught his attention: to become more popular and important, that’s an idea he couldn’t help but love. Ron felt a bit conflicted; he knew he shouldn’t involve these boys with magic; however, their ideas were very intriguing. He started to think that it would be a good idea to make them join his council.
“Boys… I have an idea, do you have paper and pens?” Ron asked with a smirk.
The boys nodded, and soon they started to paint a giant overworld map. It took nine regular notebook pages for it to be good enough; there were enemies and obstacles, and then they added the main character of the game. It was clear that the boys got inspired by Zelda to create this world.
“Now… Let me see if this works,” Ron couldn’t help but think of what he wanted to do.
Magic is about intent; that’s what he was trying to tell himself, and then out of nowhere, a spell he didn't know was shot from his wand, and surprisingly, the world on the paper became alive; he was able to move the main character with his wand.
“Wow… That’s amazing, yes, kill that monster!” One of the boys pointed out.
Everyone was so happy, but then something even crazier happened: one of the boys decided to directly touch the paper, and the thing ended up absorbing him into the universe.
“Jim… My brother!” The other boy tried to get his brother back.
Surprisingly, the boy appeared in sprite form, and then he was chased by a monster.
“I’ll save you!” William, the other boy, screamed as he jumped on the game too.
“No… Boys, what are you doing?!” Ron asked, shocked.
Then Ron's character was killed by another monster, and now he had no way to help the boys, as they were trapped in that world. He tried to use his magic to get them out; however, that wasn’t working either.
“Magic is about intent, magic is about intent!” He repeated, and then, just when he thought things couldn’t get worse, they became worse.
The boys came back, and they were hurt after being chased by monsters; however, they weren’t alone. The monsters were in the real world too; ten badly drawn dragons came out of the game, and they were giant, but the worst thing was that they were spitting fire; these dragons didn't have fire limitations.
“Oh… This is not good,” Ron said as he saw the Dragons moving deeper into the city.
Soon, screams of panic were heard all over the city while the council was having an important meeting.
“No, I don’t think muggles should get involved with magic—” Hermione was suddenly interrupted as they heard the screams of panic.
Everyone ran to see what was going on, and their eyes widened as they saw the badly drawn dragons spitting fire all over the city.
“What is that?!” Hermione asked, shocked, as they saw how the fire started to consume the city.
Snape didn’t have time to waste; he called for a broom and then threw a spell on the sky. Suddenly, the place was filled with clouds, and it didn’t take long to start to rain. That was a good plan to kill the fire, but that's not the only thing that happened; the poorly drawn dragons disintegrated too, as they were made of paper. However, even if the dragons were gone, people had been hurt, and there needed to be consequences.
