Chapter #66: A strange future.
The day finally came; the day for Voldemort’s execution had arrived. Journalists, the minister, Wizengamot members, and members of the Order were all present as Harry carried the cage on which Voldemort, in his homunculus form, was transported.
Rita’s article caused quite the stir; the government wanted to silence the truth. However, the minister was quickly advised that it was better to get rid of the threat rather than run away from it. By doing so, they would make the government look like heroes; it was an easy political win, and most politicians love that kind of stuff.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, today we’re reunited to fulfill our duty… To protect our world, there are some days when we need to make decisions that don’t make us proud, but those decisions are necessary, and today is one of those days,” the minister spoke.
There was a round of claps after that small speech; soon, Harry moved and removed the cloth from the cage where Voldemort was placed. There were shocks and gasps at the sight.
“I can’t believe it…” One of the journalists said.
“It’s real… It’s him!” Another one added.
“Yes… As you can see, these are the consequences of using very dark magic and breaking the laws of nature, the same nature that has granted us magic; be careful what you wish for… This man decided to break every rule of magic to try to avoid death, and this is how he ended up… What a sad existence,” The minister was acting very bravely for someone who had never faced a real battle in his life.
Voldemort gritted his teeth; he was silenced because they were worried he might spill the beans about his method for immortality, and the last thing they wanted was for him to become a martyr or to inspire other fools to try to do the same thing.
“But we wouldn’t have this monster here without Harry Dursley’s contribution,” the minister added. “Is there something you would like to add, Mr. Dursley?” the minister invited Harry.
Harry surprisingly nodded; for someone who didn’t like to be in the spotlight and who preferred to be more discreet about his opinions, this time he decided that he wanted to contribute to the conversation.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Voldemort is a monster; what he has done to our world is something that we should never forget, but before we place all the blame on this sick individual, we first need to look at ourselves, at our society,” he stopped.
Some people were starting to feel uncomfortable.
“Discrimination, that’s something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, and we have a big problem in this world regarding that issue, trust me, I’ve come from the very bottom of society, you could say my story is a rag to riches story, and even though it never occurred to me to become someone like Voldemort, at some point, I wanted to give up on this world as there’s nothing for people who aren’t part of the important families, and I wouldn’t blame other people if they felt the same as I did,” there was guilt on many people’s faces.
He clarified his voice; he knew his message was good, but he also knew that it was pointless. He was hoping against hope that someone like Voldemort would never appear in this world once again, but that required the wish of a fairy, not just wishful thinking.
“If we truly want to avoid someone like Voldemort from appearing again, then, we need to take a look on us and work on the real things that are wrong with our world, it’s time to get rid of those pureblood traditions and philosophy that has brought nothing but pain to our world, look where that has lead us, Voldemort took advantage of that hatred to rise in power, that’s all I have to say, thank you for your attention,” Harry finished his speech and soon got ready for the next thing.
The minister clarified his voice this time; he was feeling uncomfortable.
“Very good speech from Mr. Dursley, but it’s time to finally get this over with,” the minister hurried everyone.
It’s clear that Harry’s speech touched a sensitive fiber within the deep state; however, Harry couldn’t care less. If people didn’t want to listen, then that was their problem.
Soon the veil of death was revealed, and there were many pictures taken; this was going to be the first time the world witnessed an execution on the veil; this was going to be an event of a lifetime.
“Mr. Dursley, you can throw him when you feel comfortable enough to do so,” the minister encouraged him.
“Tom, I know what you’re thinking, but I can assure you that I’m not going to remember you, no one is going to remember you, I know that you wanted to live forever, so, I’m happy knowing that not only you’re going to cease to exist forever but also, that no one is going to remember you,” Harry said with a smirk.
Voldemort was protesting, and Harry knew that the thing was insulting him; however, he didn’t waste time, and soon, he threw the thing on the veil, then someone came running to meet them.
“Minister… The name Tom Marvolo Riddle has been added to the list of recent deaths,” a man with a book said, and soon everyone started to celebrate.
The dark lord was gone, and Harry felt empty. He knew he should be happy; he helped destroy the thing in this universe too, but no, there was nothing to celebrate for him because this was just the start; now he was going to live a life that didn’t belong to him.
He couldn’t help but think of his original version from this universe; that version should be here, celebrating that the monster that fucked up his life was gone, but no, here he was living that life that didn't belong to him, however, on the other hand considering how the other Harry behaved maybe something like this wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t switched bodies.
It was clear that the other Harry had lots of anger in him; maybe he would’ve joined Voldemort, or worse, once he realized the big power that was inside him, he would’ve used it to become the next dark lord. There were many questions and no one that could answer them, as this issue only belonged to him.
“Harry, are you okay?” Asked Hermione with a concerned expression.
He looked back to see Fleur and Tonks joining her, and he couldn’t help but smile as he remembered the good things he did with them and his other lovers. Yes, the future was uncertain, but that’s what made it so exciting; not knowing what’s going to happen has its charm.
“Yeah… I’m fine… I’m more than fine, actually; I feel better than I've ever felt,” Harry answered with a calm tone.
“Well, now that we’re done here, why don’t we get home? We have to celebrate!” Lily spoke this time.
Harry didn’t want to agree; however, he didn’t have it in him to become a jerk towards them. He didn’t know if one day he’d be able to call them family, but just like everything else, it seemed like he’d have to pretend; this chance in hell had been a very interesting experience for Harry to say the least.
