Chapter #16: Consequences.

Hours, that’s how long it took to put the fire out. Because the houses were made with silver and the castle with gold, the heat had been very intense and made things very difficult for the wizarding council to work. The craziest thing was that the dragon spit something close to fiendfyre; the people that were harmed were healed too, which was a relief to everyone.

However, now it was time for punishments; it was time for the culprit to suffer, or else they’re risking retaliation from muggles, and yes, even though wizards outnumber them for now, they can be patient, and they can run and join Harry’s civilization and tell them what happened.

Harry for sure is going to be delighted to know where Hermione is and what to do to make sure something like this doesn’t happen, but he’s not going to be as gentle as them, that’s the reason why magical people had to hide back in the middle ages, and even though now they’re planning to obliviate the muggles and move them to another place, this incident has proven that Ron is not fit for ruling.

“Where’s your wand, Ron?” Hermione asked with a serious tone.

Ron was now sitting on his throne; however, chains were restricting him, and she, alongside Severus and the rest of the council, were pointing their wands at him in case he tried something.

“I don’t know, I swear, it was lost in the chaos,” Ron said desperately.

“I don’t believe you,” Snape suddenly said, and soon he started to read the redhead's mind.

Ron had zero protections, so for Snape to navigate through his memories was as easy as spreading butter on toast; however, it proved that Ron was right: he in fact lost his wand in the midst of chaos; that’s why he couldn’t do anything more than run with William and Jim, who now thought of him as the most amazing person in the world.

“Ron… Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?” Hermione asked with an angry tone.

“You put countless lives in danger; we were planning to obliviate muggles eventually, but you have ruined our plans. We needed to unfreeze more first, and now we’re going to erase their minds and move them away!” Hermione said angrily.

Ron was for the first time scared of his girlfriend.

“Hermione, love, I—” he tried to defend himself.

“Stop calling me that, you cheating bastard!” Hermione snapped at him.

Ron, as always, saw himself as a victim.

“Well, if you paid more attention to me instead of your lover Snape, then I wouldn’t have been seeking comfort from women that want me for what I am!” Ron spat angrily.

He knew he shouldn’t have said that, but it was already too late; that’s what he’s been thinking since the moment he saw the two of them working so well. His insecurities kicked in, and now both Hermione and Snape were looking at him with even more hatred.

“I think we should obliviate him and send him to Potter,” Snape proposed.

Ron felt chills run down his spine at the thought of being sent with Harry; he knew his friend wouldn’t tolerate the betrayal; he knew Harry was going to torture him until he found where Hermione was hiding. Ron was feeling scared for the first time.

“Sadly, we can’t do that,” Ron heard Hermione say.

He felt a bit relieved to hear that she didn’t want to send him away.

“Hermione… You’re the best… I’m going to try everything in my power to make it up to you; my whole life, it’s all yours,” he said with a desperate tone.

“Don’t misunderstand things, Ron. We’re over; that's it,” she said with a cold tone.

That felt like cold water falling on his body; he couldn’t believe he was hearing that.

“Hermione, but… I love you and—I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to cheat on you and…” He started to sob.

“Ron… It’s clear that we’re not working together anymore, and I’m not going to be insulted, cheated on and just pretend that everything's fine just because of your inferiority complex, I can’t do that, I have enough self-respect to know that I’m a capable woman, even if I end up alone, I will never tolerate a behavior like yours again,” she declared and Ron was stunned, he has never seen Hermione acting as brave as she was doing right now.

It was beautiful and intimidating at the same time; he couldn’t believe he screwed up things so much.

“King Ron is going to be arrested in his room, with no way to escape,” Hermione declared.

“Are you sure about that, Hermione? I mean, I don’t know about the rest, but I think you should be the ruler, so, if you think that’s what we should do, then I’m going to follow you,” Snape declared.

He knew very well that Granger was more than capable of taking care of the duties that Ron had left aside.

“Yeah… I wish we could get rid of him; however, people like him, and if we do something to him, we’re risking a magical revolution. I think we’re capable of putting down a conflict like that, but I don't want to spill blood, especially right now that we can’t afford to have wars,” Hermione declared with a sigh.

The council members started to speak, and in the end they realized that her logic made sense.

“Ron… I want you to lift the loyalty vows,” Hermione ordered him as she pointed her wand at him.

She was able to do that because he didn't make her take a vow due to the love they felt; now he was regretting not doing that.

“I… Wait, that’s the only thing that assures me that you guys are not going to kill me… I can’t do that!” He said with panic written all over his face.

He couldn’t believe that his kingdom was being stolen from him; everything he worked for, his dream, was being snatched away by the woman he thought he loved; that's why he suddenly started to laugh like crazy.

“I see it now… First, you made me betray Harry, and now you’re betraying me,” he continued laughing. “Very well, Hermione… But you better get prepared for the moment Harry arrives; I’m sure he’s going to find the location soon,” Ron started to laugh.

Everyone looked at him with hatred. Ron decided to do the deed and soon broke the vows.

“Now I want you to tell the city that you were the one responsible for what happened and that you’ve decided to retire,” Hermione ordered him. “Sonorus,” she suddenly cast the spell on him.

Ron wasn’t amused at all.

“Citizens of Rontania, this is your king Ron Weasley I. I’m sorry for what happened today, it’s all my fault, I just wanted to make everyone happy but everything turned into a disaster which proves that I’m not fit to rule over you for, so, I’m giving my throne to Hermione Jane Granger for the moment, she’s going to rule over until I’m fit enough to be back to my duties, now I’m going to rest on my room for Merlin only knows how long, thank you for all the fun times, I hope I’ll be back soon!” Ron declared.

Hermione suddenly broke the spell; she was surprisingly satisfied with Ron’s declaration. It seemed like the redhead had accepted his fate, and now it was time to get to work to fix his mistakes. Hermione was nervous, but she wanted to try her best.
