Chapter #18: Viva la vida.
It’s been a month since the events that led Ron to be stripped of his ruling rights. He was secluded in his room; he wasn’t allowed to leave, and he was starting to go insane. He was only allowed to see the outside world from a balcony, but aside from that, he was completely isolated from the rest of the world.
“They want to kill me,” Ron said to himself. “They’re plotting and planning to get rid of me, or even worse, they’re planning to make me watch Hermione having sex with Snape… Yes, that’s what they want,” Ron was telling himself.
How the mighty have fallen; he who was at the top of the world was now at the mercy of his enemies, waiting for them to run out of pity so they could finally kill him. He didn’t want to die, but his other option was to spend the rest of his life like this.
Suddenly, the door was opened, and Ron couldn’t help but sigh; he knew what it meant; it was time for his early meal.
“Thank you, Jennifer,” Ron said with a dry tone.
Jennifer was a woman close to her forties, a Muggle woman, who, despite him always showing a cranky side, she was always cheerfully trying to make him feel better. He appreciated the thought, but there was nothing she could do to truly make him feel better, not as long as he continued being restricted like this.
“Your majesty, there’s someone who wants to see you,” the woman said with a happy tone.
That caught Ron’s attention; maybe it was Hermione who wanted to forgive him and make things go back to normal after realizing that she wasn’t fun enough to be as cool as a ruler as him.
“Who is it?” He asked with fake disinterest.
Then two kids appeared, and Ron was able to recognize them; those were the kids he tried to make happy that day when the incident took place, James and William.
“James… William, what are you doing here? I told you not to tell anyone that you know me,” Ron said, surprised.
“We were worried about you; there hasn’t been any news, and then our mother told us that she was taking care of your meals, and we asked her to let us come,” William told him with a bright smile.
Ron couldn’t believe it; even though he felt a bit pathetic, the fact that there were still people like these kids who believed in him was something he was grateful for; he wasn’t alone. Then Jim took something out of his pocket, and Ron’s eyes widened. He didn’t want to believe it, but it was the truth.
“Is that… My wand?” He asked, surprised.
The boy quickly ran and gave him the wand with the free hand he had.
“Alohomora!” Ron said, and soon the locket of chains was opened. “I’m glad you helped me, but I need to erase your memories or else you’re going to get in trouble,” Ron told them with a serious tone.
“Wait… What do you plan to do now?” Jennifer asked, a bit worried.
“For now I’m going to run away, find refuge with my best friend; I’m sure that if I tell him a believable lie, he’s going to accept me back,” Ron said desperately. “Then I’m going to plan my vengeance against Hermione and everyone who betrayed me!” Ron tried to remain calm, but he was really pissed off after being betrayed.
“Wait… Take us with you!” Jennifer begged.
Ron arched a brow.
“Why would you like to come with me? This is the perfect place to live, or at least Hermione and the rest say that,” Ron scowled.
“Hermione as a ruler, she’s good, and she’s an even better person; however, I heard that she’s planning to erase our memories about magic, and there’s no way we would want that, right, boys?” Asked the mother with a raised brow.
“If that’s the case, then you’re going to surely enjoy the place where I’m going. My friend Harry, he doesn’t believe in the distinction between magical people and non-magical people; he’s creating a society in which the two are combined, and I’m sure he’s succeeding, and to make things better, I think he’s planning for everyone to benefit from magic, not only magical people,” Ron’s words convinced them more than they expected.
“This place is good but… Hermione is making a mistake by obliviating us,” the woman said with a serious tone.
“We should leave before they realize you’re free!” Jim told Ron, and everyone nodded.
“Boys, I just need you to do a favor for me… Can you get one of the brooms that the guards use for the change?” Ron asked.
What he said was true, as he was in one of the highest towers of the castle; the guards needed to fly when they had to switch positions, so there were many brooms around in case they were needed. The boys quickly ran and grabbed one, and soon, Ron climbed on the broom.
“Come with me, Jennifer; you sit behind me and you boys behind your mother,” Harry told them, and they did as they were told.
Soon they were in their positions, and to say that they were a bit worried but excited at the same time would be an understatement.
“You’re going to scream, so I’m going to place a silencing charm on you and also, a sticking charm so you won’t fall, but also, it doesn't matter what I do while I'm piloting the broom; you guys make sure to hang on as tightly as possible,” Ron told them with a calm tone.
He was making them feel a bit nervous, but there was no time for mistakes if they wanted to escape, so they soon nodded, and Ron then placed all the spells he said he was going to use. He took a moment and then sighed.
“Here we go!” He declared, and soon he escaped from the main door. He didn’t waste time and stunned the guards before he destroyed the brooms that remained there; he didn’t want to give them any opportunity to catch him.
Ron then heard the sirens on the city, it seems like they placed more security than he thought they would, however, he caught them by surprise, so, he has a a bit of an advantage in the air, and if there’s something Ron is good at and that he's proud about it, is flying, so, he flew as fast as the broom could get him, he was a quidditch player, so, he soon entered into a deep forest.
He was used to dodging poles at a great speed, so that’s what he did to avoid the people who tried to catch him. He could only smirk as he escaped; meanwhile, back in the city, Hermione and the council were discussing something important.
“Regent Granger, something terrible happened: King Ron escaped, and he took some muggle hostages with him!” The words shocked everyone. “What should we do? Should we chase after him with all our forces?” Asked the guard who told the news.
“No… I know him the most, so I know where he’s heading, and we don’t want to deal with those people, for now,” Hermione gritted her teeth.
This wasn’t good; she knew Ron was going to be back with Harry, and he was going to tell them all about their society; they needed to cast a fidelius charm to hide everything.
