Chapter #2: The deal.
Harry arrived at the Greengrass manor with the minister. This situation was really weird; however, the power that they could gain from this situation was very tempting. It was hard for Harry to deny such favor to the minister; soon, they knocked on the main door, and an older blonde man opened the door.
“Minister, thank you for coming,” said the older man. “Mr. Potter, we’ve been waiting for you,” the man said with a calm tone.
Harry and the minister nodded and soon were led inside. Once they were in the living room, they were greeted by the man’s wife, and sitting with them were two beautiful witches, one with brown hair; she didn’t look amused at the situation, while the blonde was looking annoyed.
“Good evening,” Harry and the minister said, and they received the greetings back.
“Please, please, sit,” the head of the family said with a serious tone. “First of all, my name’s Cyrus Greengrass. I’m the head of the Greengrass family, and I’m thankful that you've accepted to help us, Mr. Potter; my daughters' security is the most important thing in the world for me,” the older wizard said with a calm expression.
“Don’t thank me yet; what’s the plan?” Harry asked, a bit worried that he wasn’t understanding very well the logistics behind all this.
It seemed like they were expecting that his name alone would be enough to scare away the threat.
“The plan is simple, as you know, our daughter has her own publication, a monthly magazine, she’s famous, so, as soon as you two are spotted in Diagon Alley, then the whole world will know that you two are an item and then, the people who are trying to harm her are going to feel completely scared because, who wants to mess with Harry Potter’s girlfriend?” Cyrus asked with a surprised expression.
Harry was surprised that he was indeed right about his suspicions.
“I’m not sure about it, sir. I’ve been working in the Auror department for three years, and I don’t think that has stopped the criminals from committing crimes,” Harry scratched his chin as he said this.
“Well, do you have a better plan?” Now it was time for the lady of the evening to talk.
Daphne was smirking at him; it was clear that she was testing and analyzing him. Harry could swear that she was already planning to write an article about him; however, no matter the situation he was dealing with, he never loses his composure. Dealing with spoiled people was part of the business.
“We can pretend to be dating, and while we do that, we can try to capture the person behind the threats,” he declared.
Soon there were whispers, but at the end of the day, the most important opinion was Daphne’s.
“Do you think that’s possible?” Asked the blonde woman with a serious tone.
“Yes, it’s possible,” Harry didn’t know where he got that confidence.
The minister was looking at him with a surprised expression that wasn’t part of what he was supposed to do, and yet, Harry couldn’t find it in himself to back down.
“But you’re just a novice; we need serious investigators if we want to find the culprit behind those threats,” Daphne was a bit skeptical.
“I agree with you, sister. I don’t think it would be a good idea for Potter to do that; we’ll hire a professional. The only thing that he should do is have a public date with you, and I’m sure the threats are going to disappear,” this time the one who spoke was the other sister, Astoria.
Harry knew he shouldn’t say any more; he shouldn’t get too involved with this family. However, he wanted to prove to them that he could do it, that nothing could stop him. If he promised to catch the culprit, then he was going to do it.
“When I say I can catch that person, it’s not an empty promise,” he declared with a smirk.
Harry’s ego couldn’t let it go, and somehow, the situation made Daphne feel amused, and she couldn’t stop herself from releasing a slow but charming laughter that made Harry feel interesting things.
“You’re a very interesting person, Mr. Potter; well, that’s what should be expected considering all the crazy things you did back during our school days,” Daphne got on her feet and walked towards him.
She extended her hand, and Harry felt a bit confused, but then he grabbed it, and they shared a handshake.
“Very well, Harry… If you think that you can catch that bastard, then I’m going to give you the chance to do it; however…” Daphne’s tone became more mischievous. “If you fail, I’m going to write an article that’s going to destroy your reputation forever, and nothing is going to fix it,” she declared, and Harry couldn’t help but gulp.
He knew he was playing with fire, and yet, the amused smile on her face was making him feel interesting things; she was challenging him, something that hadn’t happened in a long time, and so, now he could only think about one thing: erasing that arrogant smile of hers.
Soon they shared a handshake and the deal was done. Kingsley suddenly grabbed Harry and took him to the other side of the room; there were some explanations that needed to be said.
“Harry… What was that? You’re not supposed to be in charge of investigating that; your job was simpler than that!” The older wizard complained, and Harry remained serious.
“It’s fine, Kingsley, don’t worry, I’m going to succeed, I’m going to find the person behind those threats,” Harry promised.
The minister couldn’t believe what he was hearing; however, in the end, there was nothing he could do; the deal was done.
“Harry, you better succeed at this because if you don’t then… We’re going to lose that vote, and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to forgive you if that were to happen,” the minister’s words were harsh but real.
Harry knew very well that he had put himself in a situation that he shouldn’t have.
“Get to work, don't waste time,” the minister ordered him, and Harry nodded, and soon joined the family back.
“Well, I guess I better leave the details of the deal to you guys; I need to get back to the ministry. A minister’s job never ends,” the man clearly wanted to leave as soon as possible.
They said their farewells, and soon Harry was left alone with the Greengrass family.
“Miss Greengrass, can you explain to me what the threats were all about? How did you receive them?” Harry asked with a serious tone.
“Please, call me Daphne… Only old men call me the other way, and most of them are creeps,” she complained.
Harry sensed that she was going to complain soon; however, that complaint made sense.
“Okay, Daphne, you can call me Harry; all of you can do that if you want to,” Harry explained.
Now that was cleared, Daphne clarified her voice.
“Look at this,” the blonde said as she placed a paper sheet in front of him.
Harry’s eyes widened; the paper was written in a perfect letter because it had been printed from a computer. Now that was an interesting twist; there aren’t many witches and wizards who indulge themselves in Muggle technology. It seemed like the case was going to be harder than Harry anticipated.
