Chapter #26: Attack first, ask later.
Hermione and the rest of the council were in a very difficult situation. Just a couple of days ago, they spotted outsider wizards on the outskirts of the city. Luckily, they weren't spotted because they were invisible due to the Fidelius Charm; however, the sight only meant one thing: Ron managed to reach Harry’s city, and he told him everything about this place. In a nutshell, it seems like they were now in danger.
“I think we should flee; that’s the wisest choice,” John, one of the council members, said with a serious tone.
“They’re going to eventually find us, and we can’t send anyone to spy on them because they’re going to know that person is working for us,” Frank, another council member, said.
“I think we should attack them now. Even with their strength, I think we're all capable of taking them down before they become too powerful,” Arnold, another council member, said.
“That’s a crazy idea. We don’t know how advanced they are; they could even have magical weapons capable of many things we can’t imagine. I’m a hundred percent sure Harry has decided for magicals and scientists to work together; if my assumptions are correct, the combination is going to be terrible. Trust me, you don't want to face that,” Hermione couldn’t help but say with a worried tone.
“Then what are we going to do? Keep hiding like this? Once he revives the goblins, it’s over; they know their way around the Fidelius Charm,” John said, but what he said didn't make any sense.
He was starting to become paranoid, and Hermione couldn’t help but sigh.
“I think we should stay like this; staying hidden will be our best strategy for survival, and that’s if you want to keep our society as it has been. It’s sad, but I realized that this is a lost battle… There's no doubt that they’re going to surpass us, and they’re going to create a very utopian yet dangerous society,” she couldn’t help but sigh as she admitted this.
“I agree with Hermione… I think we should stay hidden,” Snape said this time.
He had been silent the whole time hearing the arguments; he’s a man who likes to keep his composure. However, this situation has been too chaotic, and he believes that the other members are drowning themselves in a glass of water. While it’s true that Potter might have the most power in this situation, this wasn’t a lost battle yet.
“Even though it’s true that the goblins are experts when it comes to breaking barriers and protections, there’s nothing they can do against my Fidelius Charm, trust me,” Snape added.
“How do we know that? Don’t you guys remember what happened to the Potters? They were hiding under the Fidelius, and Voldemort ended up finding them!” Arnold was starting to annoy Snape.
“What happened with the Potters is something far more complex than what was told to the public. There’s a person who betrayed them; they trusted in him, and that was their downfall. He sold them to Voldemort,” Hermione intervened.
She knew how sensitive this topic was for Severus, and the last thing she wanted was to cause more tension amongst the members.
“Exactly, you shouldn’t feel worried. As long as none of us leaks the location, they won’t find us; we’ll be fine. We’ll make another portal to create a world like the one we had so we can remain hidden forever, but we need more people to help us; that ritual needs a lot of magic,” Snape tried to make everyone understand the situation.
“So, that’s it?” Asked John with a serious expression.
“Yes, we’re going to continue like this; there’s no reason to attack Harry’s city unless we want to be mercilessly killed,” Hermione said with a serious tone.
Soon, John got on his feet and left the room. Frank and Arnold joined him. Hermione couldn’t help but sigh at the scene. This wasn’t a good situation. She was just hoping that the members managed to understand the situation; they weren’t in the right position to be attackers. They could only defend themselves right now.
“Well… That turned out to be worse than I anticipated,” Hermione said with a disappointed tone.
“They’re going to understand with time; don’t worry about it,” Snape told her in a calm tone.
“I still don’t know why we decided to put them on the council,” Hermione sighed. “I know you were classmates with them, but do you really think their judgement is right?” Hermione questioned Snape, and he sighed.
“Well, I must admit that I didn’t spend too much time with them, but John managed to become head boy; he was a year below me, Frank has an important position in the Department of Mysteries, and Arnold is an auror captain. It’s clear that these men rely too much on their military ways to deal with these situations,” Snape couldn’t help but explain with a disappointed tone.
“All this tension is killing me,” Hermione complained as the stress was starting to physically affect her.
Snape suddenly got up from his chair and moved behind her.
“Do you want me to massage your shoulders?” He asked in a calm tone as he placed his hands on her shoulders.
Hermione was surprised by the proposal, but in the end, she nodded, and soon, she got lost in the massage. However, while these two were focused on this, the other members of the council were knocking on the doors of magical people’s houses; those houses were marked with the drawing of a wand, so they would be easier to identify if you just wanted to socialize with magical people.
Many people were coming out of their houses, and soon, they were led to another place. People were confused, but they were also interested to see what the members of the council were planning to do. They were probably doing something their leader, Hermione, asked them to do; that’s why they followed the group without hesitation.
The three council members suddenly transfigured a giant room, and then everyone got inside. The place was then silenced so their conversation wouldn’t be heard; the last thing they wanted was for Hermione and Snape to know what they were doing.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sorry for interrupting your evening, but there’s something you all need to know. Harry Potter is alive, and he has become some kind of dictator. Right now he’s getting more and more power, and he’s getting ready to take over the world, and he’s not going to spare us; he’s trying to create a world in which muggles and magical people live without fearing the use of magic,” John explained.
Soon people started to chat; they were confused about the situation.
“Our leader thinks that we should let that threat alone, but that will only come to bite us back in our arses in the future… We need to attack first if we want a chance for survival,” Frank said this time.
Everyone in the room screamed; it seemed like they agreed with their idea.
“Is this okay?” One person said.
“Of course it is… I can’t believe our leader betrayed us!” Another person said.
“We need to kill Harry Potter!” Another person said.
“Our world needs to be brought to what it was… The Statute of Secrecy must prevail!” Another one said.
“Let’s bring Granger down!” Another one declared.
Soon, those who despised the muggleborns and who claimed to be neutral during the war but were actually too cowardly to announce that they were on Voldemort’s side agreed with that idea. Soon, an angry mob was formed, and they were ready to take over the government and destroy Hermione and her allies; the other council members were satisfied with this outcome.
