"Free bird! Play Free bird!" If you ever play in public, open mic, busking, even your friends campfire, eventually a drunk person is going to yell "Free bird! Play Free Bird!" Well, no you have the tools to do so! The good news is at its core this is actually a super easy beginner song. It is everything that they add to the song, and the 5 minute 82 bar solo, that make it more complicated, but if you just want to strum it and sing it you can do so. 5 easy beginner chords (the 6th chord, the Bb, is only if you are going to play the solo) and a very easy and basic strum pattern. You'll pick it up in no time!

If you think the record version is long you should hear them play this song live! It is over 9 minutes on the album, released on their first album, but it is used as the finale for their live shows and frequently lasts longer than 14 minutes. Think about that, if you are driving down the freeway at 70 miles an hour you can travel almost 20 miles listening to just one song! The reason it is so long is because of the solo, which Rolling Stones magazine ranked as the 3 greatest solo of all time.

The tabs that we used on Patreon also include a great bonus fingerpicking rhythm and 4 tasty fills. The fingerpicking sounds great when used before the slide intro, over the slide intro, or if you are playing with two ukuleles it also sounds great over the strum pattern. A really unique pattern designed to match one of the guitar. Lynyrd had three expert guitar players in the band, making for rich, full and interesting songs, the more you listen the more your ear is rewarded. With regards to the fills each is designed to be used over all 4 measures in the song, so if you go with a second ukulele you can also use the fills anytime there is a hole in the melody.
